Re: End of Evangelion Traumatized Me
I want to let you all know that I am grateful for the support you have given me thus far. I understand that I can be stubborn and defensive whenever I bring up a debate involving a personal topic. I recognize the mistake I have made. I know now that my mental disability is nothing to be ashamed of. ...

Re: End of Evangelion Traumatized Me
Another thing that lingers upon my mind, is the fact that because Shinji is said to resonate with the audience so well, we want to see him succeed. In a way, he has. He recognized that his life has meaning despite all the incredible hardships that he went thought and rejects instrumentation. Still, ...

Re: End of Evangelion Traumatized Me
One thing doesn't exclude the other. As you say, seeing EoE you remembered traumatic events from your past. But your experience is highly subjective, since not knowing NGE you haven't seen the events objectively, following the characters, the plot and the intentions of the authors, but you have pro...

Re: End of Evangelion Traumatized Me
If you don't see the 26 episodes of NGE directly, you won't be able to get out of this vicious traumatic circle you ended up in. The best thing to do is to acknowledge that you made a mistake (watching EoE without seeing NGE), and start watching NGE from the beginning. Btw, this is the Shinji smile...

Re: End of Evangelion Traumatized Me
Shinji is clearly aware and present all the time. He never dies. He just comes close. For that matter, nobody else dies, either. They continue to live on as disembodied souls, because of GNR gathering them all. Even the people who got get tanged, so they are part of it. Think of it like going aslee...

Re: End of Evangelion Traumatized Me
You are saying what nobody could possibly see meaning in life if they think everyone should just die. Well, that implies what nobody has real breakdowns and low points. Saying things like that is, in a way, childish. That's intentional, people do get less mature, the closer to the heart you hit the...

Re: End of Evangelion Traumatized Me
I don't think it's a good idea to compare yourself to Shinji in EoE without knowing what actually makes him himself. I think you admitted what it was a honest mistake on your part, though. I can't really tell you what to do. But the way I see it, there are not many better ways to improve your persp...

Re: End of Evangelion Traumatized Me
You know, now that I think about it, Pacific Rim to me seems like a more suitable candidate for the time being. Im sure it borrows many things from Japanese culture such as big mechs and kaiju’s. Pacific Rim is like...Evangelion without the depressing mindfuckery and religious paraphernalia, like be...

Re: End of Evangelion Traumatized Me
You know what? I think it might be even more important to look at Shinji and see how you two differ. Try to make careful parallels. From a certain point of view, EoE Shinji is considered a different character. While I disagree, it's hard not to see what he changes completely from the boy he was jus...

Re: End of Evangelion Traumatized Me
One common way of interpreting the final episodes is that they were occurring inside Shinji's mind at the same time as Third Impact in End of Evangelion, so those final episodes show Shinji coming to the realization that he has worth, which is turn is what led to his decision to stop Third Impact. ...

Re: End of Evangelion Traumatized Me
Were you TRYING to make your experience as miserable as possible? Because only watching the most depressing and emotional part of the entire series movie is a good way to do that. End of Evangelion shows all of the characters at their lowest point, so only seeing that side of them and not knowing w...

Re: End of Evangelion Traumatized Me
I don't mean to sound like a dick, but that might have played a substantial role in you having such a bad time with it; reading the synopsis that by nature focuses only on the more plot-relevant (and as such in Eva more negative) aspects, and then going straight to EoE is.... not a good idea, and a...

Re: End of Evangelion Traumatized Me
Wait, so you didn't even watch the actual Neon Genesis Evangelion anime and just jumped straight into watching End of Evangelion? Yes. I only saw clips of the show and read the synopsis of it. I said before that there were things I didn’t understand. I doubt I’ll ever understand much. But I did rea...

Re: End of Evangelion Traumatized Me
lThe difference between NGE ending and EoE ending isn't in the meaning, but in the time and effort required to learn to live. If you interpret them in this way you will see that the two endings are complementary and therefore both important, as well as yin and yang are both necessary for the Tao. I...

Re: End of Evangelion Traumatized Me
ok what is it with yall constantly recommending retake first of all, why does Rei kill herself? im not reading it. just tell me second of all, why would you read a porno for closure on eva that kinda goes against the whole "straightforward psychological perspective on adolescent sexuality"...

Re: Stuff that you would like to see in Evangelion 3.0+1.0
The final entry doesn’t have to have a happy ending per se, just something that provides the audience a sense of relief and leaves several questions pondering inside their head. Ultimately, I believe the ending should be bittersweet and triumphant. My interpretation of the next movie is that the fou...

Re: End of Evangelion Traumatized Me
Evangelion, especially EoE, hurts a lot if you feel like one of the characters. As help you, I can try to tell you somethings. But, I'm not really a good example. Evangelion, from drama to answers, are the result of Anno's thoughts and experiences. If you don't find answers or help in Evangelion, y...

Re: End of Evangelion Traumatized Me
Yeah, I definitely agree to what Melkor is saying. It's an admirable effort that you try to face your demons head on, but for the sake of your own mental wellbeing it might just be the better idea to let it rest for a while, take your mind off it and focus on some other things that bring you joy in...

Re: End of Evangelion Traumatized Me
Something that Eva did for me was make me understand my own AT field so to speak, the mental barriers I set up around myself; I unfortunately can't pinpoint at which point the realization hit me, but at some point, the idea behind it combined with the layered visuals AT fields have in the movies sn...

Re: End of Evangelion Traumatized Me
That's what I usually do after finishing a heavy and emotional anime, by then finding a more light-hearted and fun anime to serve as a breather to balance things out. Maybe you just weren't mentally ready for End of Evangelion yet, because the scars of your trauma were still too fresh in your mind....
