Re: Does Christianity even EXIST in the Eva canon?

I don't think it would be surprising if it existed but just wasn't discussed on-screen. We only see a tiny portion of the characters' lives after all, and there are other things to focus the storytelling on. Plus, most of the characters are Japanese, and thus Christianity simply isn't that big of a ...

They seem to have changed the years too (the dates onscreen are all 21st century ones).

Re: Why is the fandom more lenient with Rei?

Shinji seems to get criticised largely because he's not what some people expect the central protagonist to be, especially not a male one. Rei is neither the central protagonist or male, so she has an advantage over him in this regard. And unlike Asuka, Misato, Gendo, she doesn't have many overtly se...

In addition to other things, it could help prevent recklessness on the part of the (rather immature) pilots - they're less likely to do anything that might damage the EVA if it means hurting themselves in the process.

I think it's probably still worth it. I enjoy rewatching it at any rate. The ending isn't really the sort where knowing it in advance much changes your perception of what happens earlier on, I don't think.

Training seven-year-olds to pilot the EVAs is pretty horrific, but then so is making fourteen-year-olds fight in them ... An organisation willing to do the second would no doubt also be willing to do the first.

I think the questions we have to ask are "Are scenes set on trains significantly more likely to be about significant character development than scenes set elsewhere?" If this is the case, it suggests the connection is not just accidental.

There are similar things in the real world - e.g. the planets being named after gods, or the moons of Uranus being named (mostly) after Shakespearean characters. Perhaps, like the people who named these things, SEELE or whoever just picked the theme (Judeo-Christian concepts, in this cas...

You could just tell him it's a brilliant piece of television. Emphasis, possibly, on television - merely saying it's a brilliant anime may not be enough if your friend doesn't watch anime, or thinks that all the best TV is non-anime.

Kouzou Fuyutsuki: When Man created Evangelion, were we trying to create a clone of God? Yui Ikari: Of course. Humans can only exist on this Earth. But the Evangelion will be able to exist forever, along with the human soul that dwells within it. When the Earth, the Moon and the Sun are all gone, EV...

If you take a show like NGE and then look at a sufficient number of other TV shows/books/movies you're bound to come across something that has a large number of similarities eventually. It probably isn't due to anything very significant, just a matter of chance.

Hello. I've been lurking on this forum for quite a while without an account, but I've decided to sign up because from time to time I feel I might have something useful to contribute. Not sure how often I'll actually post, though.
