Isn't there a theory floating around that Gendo's last name could be Ayanami in Rebuild? If so, that and Rei's questioning of names in the train car scene after Sachiel goes along with the Shikinami/Sohryu change. Mayhaps they connect to each other in some to-be-seen way.
