Re: Shin Ultraman

If Anno’s only serving as a producer / screenwriter for Shin Ultraman, that could open the door to the possibility of him directing Nausicaa 2 in 2022. Think about it. His duties as a screenwriter are probably done already and the film is in preproduction now. As a producer, he doesn’t have to overs...

Re: Netflix English Dub Discussion

When did this quote happen? lol During the siege of NERV in the first half of EOE, there's a shot that lasts about 5 seconds long that starts out with some JSSDF goon firing a flamethrower down a hallway, presumably roasting some NERV staff. He fires it once, then pauses, and fires again. Amanda Wi...

Re: Netflix English Dub Discussion

The subs have Dan's name credited at the end right there on the screen, so there's no need to feel uncertain about it. My uncertainty was more so based on whether or not he's Khara's in-house translator, which apparently I guess he is. Great, so now we know who to crucify...I'm still sticking to ca...

Re: Netflix English Dub Discussion

I've heard it mentioned in this thread that Dan Kanemitsu was the translator that worked on the English scripts for NGE and EOE for this new sub/dub. Isn't he Khara's in-house translator that they use to verify accuracy of Japanese > English translations? I mean, say what you will about the performa...

Re: Netflix English Dub Discussion

I've watched a bunch of episodes now with the new dub, and it's kinda cemented my earlier opinions. The new dub is a moderate improvement overall, and Asuka's new VA is inarguably the biggest improvement over the previous dub. I also just noticed that they corrected that one scene in 22 where they l...

Re: Netflix Release General Discussion

Outside of dub/soundtrack/translation feedback, one thing I was surprised to see was that EOE received the same TV-14 rating that the rest of the main series received. Kinda surprised since, you know: -The hospital scene -Asuka's death scene -Rei being naked for like 90% of her onscreen time -Multip...

Re: Netflix English Dub Discussion

I think they also took out both F-bombs that the original dub had. I could do without the Misato one, but taking out "I'm so fucked up" and replacing it with "I'm the lowest...of the low" takes a lot of punch out of the end of that scene. It's another instance of the disadvantage...

Re: Netflix Release General Discussion

Well, I guess the value of all of our Platinum boxsets are in no danger of plummeting. In terms of FMTTM, I think Netflix just decided to skimp on this because autoplay cuts off about 2/3 of the end credits and they probably felt that licensing 26 versions of the same song wasn't worth it. But this ...

Re: Netflix English Dub Discussion

So, I watched Death(True)2, EOE, and a few episodes and here are my general thoughts: I think that the casting in general is better than the old dub. The teens actually sound like teens and not late 30-something VA's pitching their voices higher to sound youthful. McKeon in particular is a marked im...

Re: [NEWS] Neon Genesis Evangelion coming to Netflix Spring 2019

While there's nothing inherently wrong with critiquing a performance, something just rubs me the wrong way about her tone. We're only a few hours from when it officially drops, so I guess we'll know soon enough about the whole English Dub situation. I think I'll probably watch the dub version of DEA...

Re: [NEWS] Neon Genesis Evangelion coming to Netflix Spring 2019

As an aside—why the hell wasn't the dub cast announced before the upcoming streaming release? And is it possible that dub cast replacements are related to ongoing voice actor strikes? I would have thought that at least by now, with less than a month until the release, Netflix would have given at th...

Re: Star Trek

She was also a pretty good director as well. The sole episode that she directed in the final season (" Genesis") had a script that was corny enough (the crew de-evolves) to seem like it was from the first or second seasons of the show, but she was able to get some pretty good performances ...

Re: [Film] The Trailers & Upcoming Films Thread

Unless the movie is over 3 hours long that ain't happening. Even 4 hours is probably too little unless they have masters of script writing and editing in their team. Boy do I look forward to see Akira with absurd amounts of CG crap all over the screen. The Akira anime movie had plenty of problems, ...

Re: Star Trek

It's way more impactful of a death than, say, getting force-blasted in the chest by a tar monster. I have been wondering about returning TNG cast members. Obviously they're not all coming back, and I can't imagine them having more than 2 of them reprise their roles tops. It's already been confirmed ...

Re: Star Trek

What were they referencing with the caravan thing? One of the movies? Stewart looks... tired. This isn’t encouraging. About the caravan, nothing's been confirmed but the rumors are that the rescue operation referenced in the teaser was the evacuation of Romulus when their star went nova, as alluded...

Re: [Film] The Trailers & Upcoming Films Thread

After numerous false starts and cancellations, it looks like Hollywood's Akira adaptation is finally moving forward. Directed by Taika Waititi ( Thor: Ragnarok, What We Do in the Shadows ) Release date is May 14th, 2021 Waititi has indicated that he's committed to avoid whitewashing the cast and th...

Re: Star Trek

First teaser for Star Trek: Picard has dropped. Absolutely love this teaser. It picks up exactly where it should, with Picard retired tending his vineyard as in the final TV episode which flashed 20 or so years into the future in one of the timelines. It's gorgeously shot and I love the reference t...

Re: [NEWS] Neon Genesis Evangelion coming to Netflix Spring 2019

So, we're officially only a month away from the premiere date and as far as I can tell, there hasn't been any additional press releases or new information about the status of the release or the new dub. Kinda thought that they would have released something in the past couple months since they announ...
