Re: Release Date: June 27, 2020

Japan's numbers are low because they've made testing a logistical nightmare. The comparison I'm using is based on deaths, not "cases". Cases are essentially unknown, because the figure is based on testing regimes, which are hugely variable, but inadequate almost everywhere; deaths are a m...

Re: Release Date: June 27, 2020

Seeing as Japan doesn't appear to have the high percentage of dumb fucks who would rather get drunk and party than help contain a pandemic as the West, I think Japan has a good chance of keeping this thing down. At present the graphs show that Japan has controlled the virus better than anywhere els...

Re: Release Date: June 27, 2020

As it's a film, the release will delayed if cinemas in Japan get closed down as they have in much of the world. Those initial screenings are a large part of the income to be made.

Re: FML general thread [8]

Really confused feelings. Today I was supposed to be travelling to Bury for the funeral tomorrow of the daughter of a close friend who killed herself three weeks ago. I decided that I would not go to the ceremony or the wake (well over 100 people expected), but would still go up to see the friend an...

Re: Release Date: June 27, 2020

The best advice at present is that social distancing and isolation should be maintained until a vaccine is available, i.e. something like 18 months, plus time for bulk production. People will start working out what activities can be continued with sensible separation - not everything has to stop dead.

Re: DVD release question

Well, with 26 episodes and two movies all on four disks, you're not going to get anywhere near the quality of any official release. Though the misspellings are fun, I suppose.

Meanwhile the British are panic-buying toilet paper, and the Bank of England has cut its base rate from 0.75% to 0.25% to help small businesses weather the crisis (or is that a political move ahead of today's budget, I wonder?). And a Health Minister has the virus, who was in parliament and at a rec...

Re: Where to begin?

Be cautious of advertisements for Platinum DVDs and the like. They are long out of print, and while second-hand copies do crop up, there are many bootleg fakes of varying accuracy (you can find whole threads on the matter in the older parts of this forum, including hints for telling the difference)....

Re: Where to begin?

Any fandom has its fanatics for this or that version - but actually, there is no reason not to go straight to Netflix and watch it there. The subs and the (English) dub, which ever you choose, are pretty good - probably the best you can get without poring over fan versions, many of which are distinc...

Re: What if Shinji piloted Eva unit 03 instead of Asuka give me some opinions

Unlike the series, the films are concentrated on Shinji's story. Your suggestion would require a completely different focus to be the main theme.

Last week the four-year-old motherboard of my main server (that's to say, the host running all my virtual machines) failed. It now turns off after three seconds without even a beep code to indicate why. I managed to buy a half-price "shop-soiled" replacement, and the server is working agai...

Re: Forum Wackiness

Another time-related change is that the forum header has a much shorter time before being refreshed. This means that if you choose the theme with all the headers rotating randomly, they'll change about much more frequently. I guess this means that CloudFlare chooses a new Time-To-Live header value f...

Kats, Rits and WILLE have disgraced themselves hard with the way how they dealed with Shinji. [...] You can really only think this by failing to understand the situation they are in. The new members of WILLE, Sakura, Midori, Hideki, Sumire, etc, they are only collateral damage for joining this fail...

Re: Shin Eva - Official Social Media

The same could be said (and has been) of the Curse of Eva in 3.33 - but in fact that doesn't take anything away from the main points of the film.
