Re: Which Evangelion music to wake up with?
If you want to wake up to begin vanquishing your enemies immediately, the one to go with is, of course, "False Regeneration".

Re: Fanfic Story Ideas, Mk. II
That is actually a fic idea I have considered a couple of times. But in a Post-3rd Impact form. Some decades after the event, an older Shinji Ikari, now a respected figure under whatever new government there is, hands some trusted young historian a lengthy dossier on NERV, GEHIRN, and SEELE's pre- a...

Re: Asuka isn't Justified
I'm trying to limit the length of this, and it is going against my better judgement to continue, but what I'm trying to say that my view is that Shinji is very much a subject of the effects of hegemonic masculinity and so is Asuka. It is, perhaps, a bit much too saying that Shinji, as a boy, should ...

Re: Asuka isn't Justified
Because outside of that, I don't see how Shinji "harmed" Asuka for failing to live up to her demented expectations or emotionally harmed her. Sometimes, doing nothing is the most violent thing to do. Point is, Shinji never tries to empathize. (And not just with Asuka, but anyone in genera...

Re: Asuka isn't Justified
Let's make things clear, Shinji has had an equally difficult past Now, I would like to question this assertion, if nothing else. Yui disappeared from one day to the next, and Shinji never really got a good look at her "death". Asuka had to suffer through seeing Kyoko linger on as a shadow...

Re: Would the angels have awoken and attacked regardless of the Katsuragi expedition disturbing Adam 15 years prior?
I think, thematically speaking, that the idea that mankind (well, Seele) could have chosen to just leave slumbering giants lie, but decided to open Pandora's Box any way in their hubris, fits very well with the series.

Was there, like, a whole controversy in Italy about their translation being shoddy? I believe the Italian division of Netflix even issued a public apology and promised to overhaul the translation.

Re: Netflix Release General Discussion
Netflix have not only removed "Fly Me to the Moon" from the credits. They even have taken it out of the episodes themselves. The versions used in the Kaji walks Misato home scene from Episode 15 and the answering machine scene from Episode 21 are just gone. I feel like I could take or leav...

Re: The most disturbing moment in Evangelion
I would say on a purely psychological level, Yui's decision to mould Shinji into being the lynchpin for her plan from the beginning and how coolly she acted around carrying the whole thing out is pretty damn disturbing. It sure is something for a parent to decide to traumatize their child by faking ...

Re: Toji's Squandered Potential
It really is rather strange. Anno said that he originally had plans about killing Toji, but could not go through with it, due to him promising as a part of the sponsorship deal with King Records that he would not kill any child characters. But in the manga, the moment where Toji is killed off feels ...

Re: Why must Asuka be "the best" pilot?
I think what is another important part of what is at the root of Asuka's whole paradox, can be read from the two different pleas she delivers to her mother, namely: Okay, I'll die with you, Mom. So, please don't quit being my mom! Okay, Mom?! And: Mom! Mom! Please don't kill me! No! I'm not your dol...

The premise of slapping a human diagnosis on someone who is at least somewhat beyond human is questionable.

Re: Personal Status After Rebuild
I know what you mean. I can relate to the feeling that the Rebuild series has just been keeping its wheels spinning and that the characters haven't really gone anywhere nor changed significantly, despite Rebuild overtly changing things when it comes to visuals and setting. I think there should be a ...

Re: Netflix Rights and Redub
Personally, I'm kind of looking forward to what Netflix's spin on a re-dub might be. While I prefer subs, I don't actively dislike the old dub (nowadays, at least), but it does have a lot of problems and a re-dubbing of the series is something I have been hoping for ever since the release of the big...

Re: Was Yui nearly as bad as Gendo?
I think a consideration that is also worth brining up in this thread, is that Gendo and Yui by all appearances both had the same core motivation of ultimately wanting what is best for Shinji, and were willing to hurt him in the process, but rationalizing this with the idea that it would eventually b...

Re: Was Yui nearly as bad as Gendo?
I'd say that regardless of everything else, her apparent decision to throw Asuka under the bus in EoE, by all appearances for the purpose of breaking Shinji further mentally, does undeniably paint her in a bit of a ruthless light.

Re: What do you think Gendo was like at Shinji's age?
I would say that Gendo's immense sense of self-loathing also counts against him being a sociopath. Sociopaths believe that they are entitled to others' affection. It is pretty much the entirely opposite with Gendo; he strongly believes that he is inherently too worthless and terrible of a person to ...

Re: Introduction, Toxicity of AsuShin and other things
Well, to cite a classic (and a great moment from Mr. Plinkett's "The Force Awakens" review): Asuka might be a "bad egg" but "blaming the kids is a lie and a shame. You know exactly who's to blame..."

Re: Lilith in human history
I would like to think that Lilith walked around at first and in doing so s/he influenced ancient mythology as in it there are many references to Star people in some mythologies that would be very fitting to Lilith in that she'd be part of the mythology but humanity not really realizing it. http://w...
