Re: Theoretically, would a Western re-release of Eva be better before or after 4.0?

I think they meant that Eva in Japan is as big as Star Wars is in the West. Most Western Eva fans know it's basically a cult hit; I'd say it's around the level of Batman: TAS in the West, especially since both shows had huge, inspired geek fandoms in the 90s and are now mostly remembered through no...

Pretty sure that's Pokemon. Dare I say Eva is really a cult following here. I'm sure if Evangelion was as big as Pokémon in the West, Ganiax et al. would have negotiated a deal.

Re: Theoretically, would a Western re-release of Eva be better before or after 4.0?

What about Platinum though? Was that imported in too? I'm sure if you scrap the films (again) and slap on another Grant collection video and Spencer rant it'll keep the Jap fans from importing it  It's such a shame we never got better cuts of the feature films. That's the real tragedy. Is th...

Re: Theoretically, would a Western re-release of Eva be better before or after 4.0?

I'm fine with the original English dub. I think some people are really harsh regarding their opinions of it. Remember this was dubbed in the 90's (for the most part). Funimation is really sleeping on the job though. They re-license BGC 2040 (which legit had 3 releases with different packaging since ...

Theoretically, would a Western re-release of Eva be better before or after 4.0?

Everyone seems to be holding out on a western publisher to license everything Eva related AFTER 4.0, but I'm going against the crowd in mentioning that I think NOW will be the best time for a re-release. 4.0 won't be released anytime within 2017, so there's time for a distributor to negotiate a lice...

Observations on rewatching again in 2016.

1. There are a lot of feminist or female empowerment elements to the narrative - I'm not sure if this was intentional, but I've just come to this realisation: - Asuka, a female, is the strongest pilot compared to Shinji - at least initially. She's able to do her job when she first comes in and is ab...

Re: My (new?) interpretation of Asuka's last line.

Shinji is seeing part of Misato's week-long college sexathon with Kaji. We only know about that because Ritsuko mentions it in #21, but Shinji would have no way of knowing, aside from being in her head. Wow. I never actually made that connection. DERP. But what can Yui do anyway? Just watch ove...

I thought that was metaphorical? Does it actually take place? I should rewatch.

My (new?) interpretation of Asuka's last line.

Yes, this has been discussed to death, and yes, this is just a fanwank , but just wanted to add my two cents -- and no this isn't about the 'I feel sick' or 'How disgusting' debate; both are applicable in my interpretation. As we know (this does need citation perhaps) Ann...

Plot twist: Misato commits suicide. But it is interesting... now that you mention it I've just realised that we never see the JSSDF in EoTV... wondering whether or not that too was a last minute touch by Anno?

TV deaths of Misato and Rits - your initial reactions?

Though their deaths were explicitly shown in EoE, I was wondering what people initially thought of the glimpses provided in TV? Anyone a fan around that time care to comment? This, of course, only applies to those who watched TV before the feature films. It is ambiguous -- shots of Misato and Ritsuk...

Evangelion TV has been long out of print - both in Japan and the Western World. These days, used sets of the Platinum version will vary in price - there's debate as to whether or not it is a 'collectors' item per-say. Honestly, my personal opinion is that the $40-60 mark would be reasona...

I began watching Evangelion at the age of 5 - thinking it was just another anime. By the time I finished the whole series, I had a lot of sleepless nights. I actually remember crying about death. Nonetheless, I grew older to see that it isn't such a negative anime as it looks; it's more phil...

Thanks :) I treasure the EoE and D&R boxset the most - to have it is rare ; but to have it sealed is like omgeafoawfawpofawpofjawpfoafopaja....... It must be the only sealed copy in existence (Well, definitely one of the five if-be) I was particularly lucky as I did not spend a fortu...

Yes, you can view it in English with subtitles for the Japanese text (Softsubs will appear beside any Japanese text) Preferably you should watch the entire series - including 25 and 26, then go onto watching The End Of Evangelion. There is much debate between the two endings, however many se...

I'm hoping that with the home video release, perhaps we'll get more of a perspective of the film. The original 3.0 trailer was very intriguing - the whole Kaji with a gun, the private conference between Mari and *blank*, and what I'm assuming is Rei II with her other clones. There's ...
