I think it'll still be well-regarded among anime fans because of what a massive game changer it was and because of its depth. The fact that it's highly polarizing almost 20 years later is also a sign it'll be highly polarizing well into the future, which will ensure people keep talking a...

So I just saw this and it was amazing. Everything I hoped for and more. Also I didn't catch any blatant shoutouts to Evangelion and the only similarities were in a few scenes with
SPOILER: Show
Rinko Kikuchi's childhood
that were mindfucky.

Anyone catch any really subtle references I missed?

Yeah, he did. I don't know whether it was actually printed by Gutenberg himself (I'm pretty sure it was printed after his death), but it certainly was printed by his printing press. The thing was over 400 years old, was still in remarkable condition, beautifully designed, and I got ...

Allison Keith's voice sounds a bit different to me. Like a bit more little-girly than it previously did. Rei sounds more like a girl than a ghost, which makes her less disturbing in my opinion. Like I got the creeps because of her previous whispery dub voice, and I just think her new one sounds ...

I ordered 100 Years of Solitude and Infinite Jest. I need a book for the AP English exam that can be used for pretty much any prompt. Would Jest be better?

Not sure about Rebuild (I'd need to rewatch), but either way, it's a different continuity.

I'd say Misato is responsible for the majority of the comic relief. She does, after all, have the most extroverted and overtly-sexual personality.

Maybe we'll see an adult pilot an Eva. Misato in an Eva inhabited by the soul of her father could be an interesting concept.

Ebert seems to love well-done anime. He's referred to "Grave of the Fireflies" as the greatest anti-war film he's ever seen, and has given phenomenal reviews to pretty much every Miyazaki movie. He might appreciate Eva.

@beaverteeth: Well, isn't that a fancy list of classic books. What did you think of The Road? I was impressed. Very, very depressing, but it's the kind of book you really just have to sit down and read in one sitting. I got it done in a day. It's a lot easier than it seems though becaus...

I'm currently reading Bulgakov's "The Master and Margarita" (Pevear/Volokhonsky translation). In the past three days, I've finished Frank Herbert's "Dune", Niccolo Machiavelli's "The Prince" (Wayne Rebhorn B&N Classics translation)...
