So I just saw this and it was amazing. Everything I hoped for and more. Also I didn't catch any blatant shoutouts to Evangelion and the only similarities were in a few scenes with that were mindfucky.

I'd say Misato is responsible for the majority of the comic relief. She does, after all, have the most extroverted and overtly-sexual personality.

Maybe we'll see an adult pilot an Eva. Misato in an Eva inhabited by the soul of her father could be an interesting concept.

Ebert seems to love well-done anime. He's referred to "Grave of the Fireflies" as the greatest anti-war film he's ever seen, and has given phenomenal reviews to pretty much every Miyazaki movie. He might appreciate Eva.
