Re: do you think anno would have made EoE if the backlash hadn't been as bad?

I think EoTV left a lot of people confused and frustrated which pretty much made sure something was going to be made. But if there was not any backlash and some kind of EoE was going to be made, I doubt it would have been the same spitful, up-yours EoE we know. I see the EoE alt ending as Anno liste...

If you try to find a clear-cut rational and logical events unfolding, you will get full of "somehow". So I made my mind : this series is entirely abstract, it doesn't even remotely work to think on the material basis of the Eva world. This isn't at all sound SF like Gundam Astray....

They always planned to implant one, they just didn't want Gendo doing things ahead of schedule (they didn't know Yui was working toward her own goals at the time). Note that Seele's plan had several contingency elements, and that not all are needed to do what they wanted to do. ...

No, quite the opposite. If Seele had had their way Unit 01 would have become a vessel for the combined souls of humanity, but with the way things actually unfolded Unit 01 had nothing to do with 3I apart from finishing what Rei/Lilith started after the latter died. I'm pretty sure Shinj and Uni...

I realize this is a tad off topic, but am I the only who thinks Yui is crazy, evil, manipulative bitch? I don't think she's evil, but I prefer to see her as a strange, skewed and morally questionable character. I doubt anno intended her to ever be seen as such. A desire to blame someone other...

Absolutely nothing in the movie suggests that this is the case. We don't even know exactly what he's responsible for, and we also don't know if anyone outside of WILLE or NERV even know that he's responsible for it. The audience knows and really that's all that matters. Unless t...

@ mehdi_saada and evanescenteõndine: You two sound like you have that DaVinchi Code/Fpendulum/Voynich manuscript/Money Pit Syndrome that some fans get after watching evangelion. I remember when I got that. I was in the librarylooking up angels after watching Evangelion. I was amazed that even thoug...

Thunder Road from the movie Explorers

http://natnotnate.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/explorers-thunder-road.jpg

There's something wonderous about a cubbylike spaceship built with tvscreen windows, a trashcan, and other junk put together by three kids.

Watch it with the omnislashing. -NemZ If you're fighting for the survival of humanity you are probably not evil. EoE-Shinji really is the only one out of the three Shinji's that may be able to be called evil. There is the obvious stuff and the whole "having a breakdown and lashing out ...

Shinji represents bad tendencies in us, the viewers, to demonstrate how these tendencies can bring us down, and to encourage us to see how we can attempt to counter them. I could buy that. A "don't be like this guy" kind of thing. He's still meant to be seen as something negative ...

I don't think Shinji's evil, but he's clearly meant to be portrayed as something negative. But as for whether we the audience are supposed to see him as evil? Of course not. That's not Anno's intent in the slightest. He clearly wants us to see Shinji as an empathetic victim, not ...

Anyway, speaking about the Halo lore. I detest what 343 did to the series with the whole "prehistoric human space empire" and all that jive. They just made that shit up and acted like we should accept it. I mean, there wasn't even anything hinting at such a thing in the original three...

Gendo initiates Instrumentality in both endings (he shoved his hand into Rei's chest, remember?), and Shinji never actually did anything in either ending. You're reading too much into things. "Come back Rei" "I can't, Ikari is calling me" "Everyone can j...

The "maybes" are only there at the beginning of his statements. By the end of his statements, the maybes are no longer there, and the as a result Shoji is seen as more confidant in what he's saying. When he began talking there were only possibilities to him. By the time he had finishe...

As for Pokanami, I'm mostly in agreement with FreakyFilmFan4ever. Rei II intrigued me as a character, but after episode 5 I just didn't find her engaging. Pokanami started to develop her own agency. Like the dinner party; she drew conclusions from her interactions with others, sounded out t...

Not only this is optmistic in EoE, it made me happy. I'm reminded of that scene from Naked Gun where they're leaving a showing of Platoon laughing with happiness. I think calling EoTV or EoE optimistic is a stretch. Eotv's optimistic message is pretty much just two lines at the en...

I think poka Rei isn't what fans wanted. They definitely wanted something deeper from her character. I believe poka Rei to be kind of parody of Rei. A waifu that anno believes every Rei fan wanted her to be. It kind of is a waste of Rei's potential as a character. She really has been reduced...

And I fully doubt that Wille themselves would even consider such a depraving act for those who have suffered. I wasn't really being serious. But soldiers in WWI and II did it and the sex trade would no doubt be booming in a world that's in shambles. Why? As far as we know nobody outside of ...

By seeing how his old classmates grown up, it would demonstrate the potential Shinji has to live and learn, despite adversity and failure. I don't know about that. They would probably just look at him with scorn, since the world is in ruins. I don't know if Toji is still alive, but Hikari a...

But on a serious note... if they're gay, so what? All it means is that they may have possibly been boning, which while it opens up a new avenue through which we can explore these characters, really shouldn't affect how we see them as people. I don't mind them being gay. I do think Shiki...
