Re: Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water

Wow. Anno cut the rant? Anno??? ...I need to sit down and reconsider things... There are two rants Nadia does in that episode. The first is the one where she admits that she's selfish and mean, yadda yadda and that she hates herself, to which Jean replies that he loves her and that she isn't bad, j...

Re: Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water

I think it works OK; but it's substantially cut throughout, of course. The Africa arc is gone, and so is the island arc except for a couple of brief scenes to provide continuity. (Disclaimer - I've not actually watched it through end-to-end.) I haven't been able to find it all. Someone put a versio...

A little difficult to describe: maybe I should upload a screen cap so that you get a better idea. http://i1077.photobucket.com/albums/w467/jon_turner4/Nautilus%20Underwater_zps0o1s3jsh.png From the look of the background it SHOULD technically be a screen cap from the climax of the Nautilus arc, sinc...

^ Wasn't this in Episode 11 or something? When they were fighting with another submarine? Forget, what I said, I'm drunk. The subsequent shot of Jean going downstairs to the engine room is definitely from episode 11. But the shot of the Nautilus traveling above what looks like an undersea c...

Which episode of NADIA is this shot from?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DeqQBuSKpqg From 1:23-1:29 of this clip up here is a shot of the Nautilus cruising over what looks like the Kermodec Trench from the battle with Gargoyle's SeaNet beam gun, but I can't for the life of God figure out where in the heck this sequence comes from. ...

The only Marie “scrapbook” moment worth talking about is her summary of everything at the end of the whole show. Anno’s use of visuals and story-telling in that ending made me nostalgic for things I saw in the show only 5 minutes ago. Agreed. That was a very fitting ending for the series. I liked h...

I didn't notice the standard of animation slipped too much, mostly the writing going all wrong. There was the odd gem hear & there that would have worked alright in a stronger story, Marie's scrapbook, the 1st kiss, the circus flshbacks etc. See here's my take on all this: the thing...

I still can't get over how noticeably bad the quality of the animation is in some of those episodes. I'll say; considering the beautiful but gritty style that the audience witnesses in episodes such as Gargoyle's island and the Nautilus battles, the contrast between that and the fillers...

In defense of the Island Arc (and the much worse Africa Arc), they are a good way to put yourself down for the evening. If you have trouble sleeping then just put one of those episodes on and you’ll be out in minutes. LoL! No way, are ya kidding?! I wouldn't touch those filler episodes ...

Apart from leaving out the Island / Africa arcs the only thing I would change would maybe to flesh out the background of Nadia / Nemo / Neo / Gargoyle, as great as the ending was it still left some questions unanswered I would have liked some closure on. I agree about this. I think it would have be...

The Secrets Behind the Scenes of Nadia and the Blue Water

[url]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dH1yBPXtGRA This is part one of an audio documentary that I did on Gainax's first television series. This was done out of appreciation for the show, with myself talking about behind-the-scenes stories of the show, including its title, its origins, journey to A...

Huh, i certainly didn't expect that reaction. Just for the record, the reason why i intend to skip the island episodes is not so much the quality, but rather the fact that (as far as i know) Anno never intended for those episodes to be part of Nadia in the first place. If the author did...

Great article overall, but may I suggest a few corrections: In the Nautilus Story, Anno completely cuts episodes 23-28 -- leaving only segments of episodes 29-31 Actually, there WAS a clip from Episode 23 used in the beginning of the island arc edit. It's when we see Jean and Nadia lie on the be...

I just finished seeing Nadia right now and I agree with the opinion that the Africa arc is the worst part of the show ( special prize for ep.34 nevertheless ), followed by the island arc. In my opinion, the whole Africa arc was a mistake to begin with. It really should have gone to the cutt...

I am in the boat of agreement that the island/Africa episodes are horrible and frankly, don't make any sense in the context of the main plot. Even with the argument that it provides "character development", they felt more like character derailment , especially where Nadia's charact...

It does, and it's the 2010 re-release, so avoid that as best as you can or just watch the film in dub (which is good, as far as dubs go). I will attest to the latter in wholehearted agreement. I like the Castle in the Sky dub a lot. Especially because it has a great supporting cast--Luk...

Jean consists of traits Anno considered good in him when he was 14 year old. Nadia consists of traits Anno considered bad in him when he was 14 year old. (which gives the hilarious impression that Anno considers his vegetarianism "bad" part of himself  ) This is why Nadia is ...

I've heard about that before; wasn't it only ever released on Japanese Laserdisk, though? I suppose there are probably torrents, but I'm gonna watch the show legally, at least the first time. I hear the entire island thing was cut down to about 15 minutes? That's awesome. Yes, it wa...

When I watch it, I usually watch the beginning, skip to ep. 31 after the work of art that is 22 and then go to the tartessos episodes immediately. (I TRIED to watch the insland arc but I gave up once it became completely incoherent. NO. Just NO.) And that's exactly how Nadia should be v...

Mark Hamill is so good at what he does that I usually don't recogise him unless I know he's in it beforehand, as with the opening credits in Nausicaa. Cloris was excellent, by the way. Films that are next up for me: I'm watching Jaws tonight, Amelie on Monday, Pride & Prejudice (...
