So my question is, why are the fans treating this as practically the end of the world? I mean, the original show is easily acessable these days. "Accessible" might as well HG's own heavy edits and inserts instead of as originally aired in Japan. For most it feels like the end of the world...

I'm glad I don't particularly care for Macross Well, you may have to, it's now part of established history of the industry. Anno spent an early bit part of his anime career helping to put that anime series out into TV in 1982, and so far even did some tribute fanart for it as a way of saying thanks...
