Re: Gendo's silent line: new theory

^ or, given the context of the rest of the scene, snide rejection. No one is flattered by a man with a gun pointed at them. (Unless that’s your kink, man. I’m not here to kink shame you.) Also, dialogue censorship in a film that flaunts giant naked Rei hand vagainas? I seriously doubt it. But, sure,...

Re: Gendo's silent line: new theory

It is worth noting that 25' was directed by Tsurumaki, not Anno, and thus the decision may have been his. The Anno-penned draft script we have explicitly makes Gendo's line inaudible by the sounds of the battle outside. What battle sounds outside? Anno was the chief editor, which includes shot cuts...

Re: Last Movie You Watched

I saw what appeared to be a made-for-TV movie (maybe?) called Abraxas, Guardian of the Universe. Watch my video on it here.

Re: Gendo's silent line: new theory

Okay, since we’re doing this, here are my thoughts on the issue: First of all, we’re chasing the wrong rabbit. We notice a muted line of Gendo, and we’re all “OMG! A SILENT LINE! EVA IS SO MYSTERIOUS. I MUST SOLVE THIS.” But we’re missing the forest for the trees when we do that. Yes, Gendo’s line i...

Re: Gendo's silent line: new theory

"Akagi Ritsuko-kun, hontou ni (seriously), you have no clue what a whore your mom is (implying that Ritsuko's mom is his whore)." This is funnier than anything in the Manga Ent English dub. Especially since right before that, part of Naoko’s MAGI blocked Ritsuko out of a kill. 10/10; I’m ...

Re: Everything is Rockin'! [RML Thread 4]

It's been about a year since this all went down, so I'll update you guys on this situation right here . I'm still friends with this woman, and we've become closer friends than I thought possible. We've spent a lot of our free time this past year making chalk drawings on the driveways of other friend...

Re: Who will die in Final.

Oh, Mari was always integral to the world-building of the new movies. But she’s also the most fun character in the series, and Eva fans who came to see everyone sad again weren’t expecting that, and reacted extremely one way or the other to it. I just don’t think that her death would be a narrative ...

Re: Who will die in Final.

I’m just gonna point out that all of these non-Shinji characters dying probably won’t mean anything to Shin Eva unless these deaths motivate Shinji to do something epic. The only non-Shinji character to do that in her death so far in these movies was Rei II. (Or, at least the giving up of her human ...

Re: Shin Eva - Official Social Media

At first it seemed like Ogata was gonna sing Komm, Susser Todd for Shin Eva, and I wasn’t ready for that.

It looks like that’s not happening, but even if it ever does happen in Shin Eva I won’t be ready for it.

Re: Godzilla & Kaiju General!

One of the aspects of Peter’s Kong that shows that he’s stuck in Epic Mode is spending an hour on the boat developing about 8 characters that go nowhere once they get on the island. Like, they all get some deep backstories or intense scenes, and they all either die on the island or do nothing after ...

Re: Godzilla & Kaiju General!

I know it’s not part of the Box Set, but watching the stand alone Mothra movie before Mothra vs Godzilla is a major emotional rollercoaster. Mothra neatly establishes Infant Island and the fairy priestesses before Mothra vs Godzilla turns it into a perilous battle between order and chaos. Both films...

Re: Star Wars Episode II - A New Thread

5-year-old JJ Abrams: *playing with his SW toys* Look mom, it’s called a Star Destroyer because it blows up stars in outer space. JJ’s mom: Oh no, honey. They’re named after the aircraft carriers in WWII. They don’t destroy stars, that’d be silly. Adult man-child JJ Abrams: *directing TROS* WHO’S SI...

Re: Star Wars Episode II - A New Thread

This prophecy is something I have never quite understood. The Old Republic & the Jedi had been in power for a thousand uninterrupted years so wouldn't balance being brought to the force entail a period of the bad guys ruling? (which anakin did bring about) What exactly did the Jedi think it mea...

Re: Last Movie You Watched

^ I guess I’m more appreciative of that kind of stuff now. I definitely remember a time where I didn’t like melodrama or anything too whimsical. Maybe I was too strung up on the types of movies I wanted to make and how everything else should also be made that way, I dunno. Now I kinda unironically l...

Re: 25th anniversary albums

The funniest part of that joke was watching the cultural dissonance land with a solid thud.

On the Anniversary CD, I wonder if that’s just a rerelease of the S2 Works. I already have that, so I’m less inclined to buy it again just for new album art.

Re: Last Movie You Watched

Outside of dusting off my old movie shelf, I also saw Weathering With You this week. I don’t think it’s as good as Your Name, but it’s still really good. Actually, I think I can relate to this film more than I could Your Name. (And I found both films to be emotionally rewarding to watch.) I like mor...

^ I heard about that a couple of days ago. I still need to see that video, but I’ve spent what little free time I have tracking down the actual script to read for myself, so.... I’ve read some of the videos claims in bullet point form, and there’s some interesting stuff in there. I’d still hesitate ...

Re: Last Movie You Watched

Thanks! :D The lighting will change colors from video to video, but the same neon aesthetic will remain. There’s some non-obscure stuff coming in the future that has been shockingly un-watched for someone who claims to be into film. (But that’s not for another view videos, so enjoy the obscure stuff...
