Re: Did anything interesting happen on September 13th 2000?

^ Given how much NGE’s opening titles mirrors those of UFO, another Gerry Anderson work, I wouldn’t be surprised. He probably grew up on Japanese dubs of his shows as a kid.

Puchi Eva is actually pretty good. I need to watch that again sometime soon.

Re: Godzilla & Kaiju General!

Yeah, even in the original King Kong and King Kong vs Godzilla you have a lot of humanizing moments with the native islanders. Sure, the Godzilla movie shows the islanders as being a bit more silly than the 1933 films, but the movie shows everyone as being relatively silly when it comes to their int...

Re: Shin Eva's Indefinite Delay Support Group

^ True, But I think the international release date would have been fairly soon after the Japanese premiere. I don’t think the spoiler evasion would have lasted half as long as it did for Eva Q.

Shin Eva's Indefinite Delay Support Group

This week is gonna be especially difficult, as it will be THIS VERY WEEKEND that Shin Evangelion / Evangelion 3.0 + 1.0: Thrice Upon a Time was originally supposed to be released to cinemas, perhaps even in a simultaneous worldwide release fashion. I definitely think we need a thread to rant and rav...

Re: [Film] The Trailers & Upcoming Films Thread

^ Well, and most movie theaters are notorious for being very dirty places anyway. There's no way any of that changed in response to an epidemic. Americans are too lazy for that.

Re: YouTube Videos

UPDATE: “Live-Action Lofi Hip Hop Radio beats to relax/study to” is now public and searchable on YouTube. (I had it listed as private.) It’s still a new-ish upload, with only 60 some-odd views, so not all searches will result in the video showing up.

Re: CGI in the rebuild films.

And even in the “mixed” scenes, I wanna say the Evas leaned more heavily towards hand drawn than CGI, or at least employed the use of hand drawn animation as reference for the CGI. I remember thumbing through the Groundworks books, and they have an impressive amount of key frames drawn for the 8th a...

Re: CGI in the rebuild films.

I really wish hand drawn ships and robots were still more common. Okay, so, are we speaking about Evangelion specifically? Or the entire anime industry as a whole? Like, I remember that Aldnoah.Zero has next to no traditional mecha animation in any of its episodes. They all seem to be CGI. That suc...

Re: CGI in the rebuild films.

^ On the topic of “practical vs CGI,” a friend of mine would constantly argue for practical over CGI, going so far as to say he appreciates movies with practical effects more than ones that use CGI. Then I reminded him that Disney Star Wars also used practical effects and asked him if he appreciates...

Re: CGI in the rebuild films.

^ This. Absolutely. Anyone who complains about the CGI in the "Rebuilds" has a right to their opinion (it isn't beyond criticism, after all), but they also need to go back and rewatch Episodes 6 and 11 on a loop. Almost none of the character animations looked good in either of those episod...

Re: The Music of 3.0+1.0

P.S. Random thought: I'm at work and can't check at the moment but I recently revisited Anno's Ritual (Shiki-Jitsu) for the first time in years (wonderful film) and I'm pretty sure the main character "She" sings top herself one of the songs that Mari sings to herself in the opening of one...

Re: 3.0+1.0's Troll Potential

- ends on a scene implying that everything that happened was Asuka playing with her doll in a mental asylum after she suffered Eva's Curse and went mad. Alternate version, Shin Eva cuts back to the scene in 2.22 where Asuka is playing with the doll on her bed. The last half of 2.22 and all of 3.33 ...

Re: CGI in the rebuild films.

The CGI in these movies is fine. Honestly, the only example of Rebuild CGI that sticks out too much for me are the instances in 1.11 where Unit 01 is shown going up the chute to fight angels. Everything else in these movies feels pretty solid for the most part after that. The scene where the Evas ar...

Re: 3.0+1.0's Troll Potential

In Shin Evangelion, the name of the lead Seele figure is revealed NOT to be Keel Lorenz, but Goro Maki. (Goro Maki will then go on to appear in Shin Ultraman.)

Also, google search the amount of kaiju movies that the character Goro Maki has been in, it's kinda wild.

Re: Mari's vow to Shinji

Also, Sadamoto’s contributions to anything Khara related has been very sparse lately. His influence on the series diminishes with every new movie that’s made. I really doubt anything Sadamoto suggests in the manga will be reflected in any way in the new movies.
