Evangelion Finally (Ver. Long John Silver)
There is only one true way to listen to anime soundtracks (Even if you've already bought the record) http://i.imgur.com/c0dUmJzl.jpg http://i.imgur.com/782DXL6l.jpg There's not a bad sound off the tape at all --- even from a deck from the late 70's. It's certainly a bit more convenient than spinning...

Re: [Essay]How Does an RBMK Reactor Explode
I'm pretty sure he's seen it on A03 As it is, it's something of a summary of 'Midnight at Chernobyl' by Adam Higginbotham, with an assemblage of bits and pieces I've accumulated from other sources. There're some moments in Higginbothams book that - when you look at the layout of the plant and the st...

Re: [Essay]How Does an RBMK Reactor Explode
------ The Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant and the city of Pripyat beside it had been the brainchild of Viktor Bryukhanov. Bryukhanov has taken the city and its power plant form a paper concept, to a living, thriving thing. By 1986 Pripyat had become a model for the best in Soviet life. The shelves we...

[Essay]How Does an RBMK Reactor Explode
Following on from Sky's 2019 series - and noting a certain user of these forums who liked this when it was posted on A03, an answer to the question nobody asked. April 26th, 1986 - just after 1 O'clock in the morning - a Simple test at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Station goes dreadfully wrong. In th...

Re: [Fic] New Perspective Evangelion 11... yes it is still going
It's been 9 years since anyone posted in this thread. And yes, this fic is still alive. That which is not dead and all that. It'll outlive me, I suppose. It may be the only Evangelion fanfic to ever update 'on location'. And trust me, Hakone is well worth visiting in it's own right. I've been there ...

Re: How do you feel about Shinji ending up with Mari?
Bringing in an outside element parachuted in to break a continuous cycle who also ends up riding Shinji in the end sounds like we just watched the plot of some weaboo's self-insert fanfic from a 3rd person perspective.
.... not that I'd know about such things.

Re: 3.0 + 1.0 Reactions
So I watched it but was quite detached through the whole thing. The South Pole sequence had me quickly thinking "How many tens of miles are they falling, long after re-entry?" given 20 Eva-lengths to the mile, and the great clouds of the things rising up to meet them, looking like dust in...

Re: 3.0 + 1.0 Reactions
(Maybe I'll get the right bloody topic this time --- ) And so I've seen it. Watched it in two parts. I'm glad I did. I don't particularly feel the need to discuss every moment in minute detail, or ponder on microdetail A versus microdetail B and what the fuck does the spot on her nose mean. I think ...

Re: Share your Dreams (Part 2)
Had a nuclear reactor in some sort of Nixxie Clock assembly. Glass tubes with stuff in them sort of thing. Overclocked it - left it in the front room, and the tubes shattered letting the radiation out. It was like 50 sieverts or something in the front room according to my phone but 20 millisieverts ...

Finally replaced the preamp that came with my turntable with a ProJect Phono Box S2.
Killed the annoying humm being fed back by my laptop's power supply - mostly. Even after I cut the earth wire on the thing it still radiates EM noise to be heard.

Re: Blatherings on a trip to Japan. A travelogue from the BC era
Thanks. The older I get the more places like Hakone and Itsukishima and the less touristy parts of Kyoto appeall to me - I will have to spend a night or two on the island. Maybe wander the forests in the dark. Get gored by a boar. It's not even that things have 'changed' it's just evertything is a d...

Re: Blatherings on a trip to Japan. A travelogue from the BC era
The problem with unpredictability is that things can go wrong. I understand the terror some of those folks must feel. You've spent all this money on the big holiday and you 'might' be dissapointed - there's a relaxation in letting someone else worry about it. I mean, that was what the oulfella got o...

Re: Blatherings on a trip to Japan. A travelogue from the BC era
I normally go away for a week. And a month isn't possible. 2 weeks is the best I can do. Japan is just far enough away to make contacting me difficult. And after about a week, people eventually began to figure shit out. The real cause of the problem was the bare minimum of a handover due to other pr...

An update concerning Puerto Rico Comic Con 2020: It appears that due to a "conflict of itinerary", Monica Rial and the rest of the My Hero Academia cast that were originally supposed to come to the event have all decided to drop out. I wouldn't put it past me that Monica found out that Vi...

Re: Blatherings on a trip to Japan. A travelogue from the BC era
http://i.imgur.com/tIwgUrat.jpg Morning means its time to travel again. We're moving North to Hakone and it feels like we're at the point in the Holiday where we're settled. Things are starting to make sense. The human is nothing if not amazing in its ability to adapt. Even the ever-amazing Shinkan...

Blatherings on a trip to Japan. A travelogue from the BC era
A bit of an effortpost. This'll be long and rambling and utterly pointless. I mean, I think it skirts around the kernel of some ideas, but it never hits them. Still, it's something that's not Covid related. TL;DR Went to Japan. Saw a Museum. Climbed a Mountain Got fat and Drunk Visited a castle. Vis...
