Re: Recent Hauls 3: The quest for more stuff

Finally replaced the preamp that came with my turntable with a ProJect Phono Box S2.

Killed the annoying humm being fed back by my laptop's power supply - mostly. Even after I cut the earth wire on the thing it still radiates EM noise to be heard.

Re: Blatherings on a trip to Japan. A travelogue from the BC era

Thanks. The older I get the more places like Hakone and Itsukishima and the less touristy parts of Kyoto appeall to me - I will have to spend a night or two on the island. Maybe wander the forests in the dark. Get gored by a boar. It's not even that things have 'changed' it's just evertything is a d...

Re: Blatherings on a trip to Japan. A travelogue from the BC era

The problem with unpredictability is that things can go wrong. I understand the terror some of those folks must feel. You've spent all this money on the big holiday and you 'might' be dissapointed - there's a relaxation in letting someone else worry about it. I mean, that was what the oulfella got o...

Re: Blatherings on a trip to Japan. A travelogue from the BC era

I normally go away for a week. And a month isn't possible. 2 weeks is the best I can do. Japan is just far enough away to make contacting me difficult. And after about a week, people eventually began to figure shit out. The real cause of the problem was the bare minimum of a handover due to other pr...

Re: Convention General Thread

An update concerning Puerto Rico Comic Con 2020: It appears that due to a "conflict of itinerary", Monica Rial and the rest of the My Hero Academia cast that were originally supposed to come to the event have all decided to drop out. I wouldn't put it past me that Monica found out that Vi...

http://i.imgur.com/tIwgUrat.jpg Morning means its time to travel again. We're moving North to Hakone and it feels like we're at the point in the Holiday where we're settled. Things are starting to make sense. The human is nothing if not amazing in its ability to adapt. Even the ever-amazing Shinkan...

Blatherings on a trip to Japan. A travelogue from the BC era

A bit of an effortpost. This'll be long and rambling and utterly pointless. I mean, I think it skirts around the kernel of some ideas, but it never hits them. Still, it's something that's not Covid related. TL;DR Went to Japan. Saw a Museum. Climbed a Mountain Got fat and Drunk Visited a castle. Vis...

It's not a 3D model - it's a photograph of a life-size Rei.

Re: What’s the most fucked up NGE fanfic you’ve read?

Not counting the foetid trenches of FFN where you might find anything I recall something on the old EFO - probably from before the QC truly came about - that was basically Gendo Ikari raping Rei in her apartment while Fuyutsuki watched. It was removed at some stage before LD snaffled the site, but I...

Re: [Film] Alita: Battle Angel

I still want to see it again, 4 weeks later. I haven't met anyone sensible who hated it. Most people liked it. Most people I've spoken to personally loved it. And I understand the hangups people might have - but at the same time I had such a good time watching it that I just didn't care. Fuck it, if...

They have CGI for that. And Outtakes from the first film...

....even if William's original contract specifically prevented that.

Spec Ops Asuka is enjoyable..

On a sort of make Madoka jealous by traumatising the living fuck out of it's teenaged cast while getting you partyvanned sort of way.

It's not shy. About anything.

Alita, Battle Angel.

Got a ticket for a preview through 'methodology'. Did not go away unsatisfied.

Re: [Film] Alita: Battle Angel

I enjoyed it. Visually it's well realised - especially in IMAX. Beautiful 3D PG "ultraviolence". I can't really review it because I'm familiar with the source material - but it makes a big effort to get as much of the big "Alita" coolness in for people to enjoy. The beauty of a p...

Re: Buying a Record Player

The reason Crossley's and their ilk are poorly regarded is because they use an aolder-style cartridge called a Ceramic cartridge. The moving needle (Or Stylus if you want) puts pressure on a pair of crystals which generate piezo-electric voltages. Amplify the voltage and you've got your music. The p...
