Re: What anime are you watching right now? Summer 2016 to now B/

I recently watched Kamisama Dolls. Excellent animation, even background characters have distinct faces. The ending theme What I remember is that syncopated, latin-esce OP sung by the always-great, can uninstall-me-any-day Chiaki Ishikawa. ... ah both are sung by her in fact. And sadly Re:Zero seaso...

Re: What anime are you watching right now? Summer 2016 to now

Revisions From the Director of s-Cry-Ed , Planetes , Active Raid and ID-0 , comes a mecha outing that's... functional. Just like those last two. It has a few interesting conceits; What if not just people but a whole city is transported into a different world? What if we spend the length of the seri...

Re: Netflix: Ghost in the Shell - Sac 2045...

That happens in [C]: The Money of Soul and Possibility Control (at the end of which Japan is using the $), but what else? Could of sworn it also happened in Gasaraki , but I might be wrong. @Topic English Dub got William Frederick Knight to come back, I'am seriously impressed. Crispin Freeman sound...

Re: Netflix: Ghost in the Shell - Sac 2045...

GITS 2045 ep. 7 Yeah, plot's a Transhumanist boiler plate of slightly-below average sci-fi fare, but Bato in this Bank robbery is fun as hell. ^_^ ... until it got the part where he crashed a crypto market to give the "robbers" money. Sure he helped them out, but he basically ruined anyon...

Re: Netflix: Ghost in the Shell - Sac 2045...B/

I'm watching; 3 episodes in, and I have mixed feelings. 1. Togusa is divorced now. I can't decide how I feel about this. This I thought was critical to his character, but then again, was it really anything more than a diversity check? Besides causing a maguffin that one time in the last in-universe ...

Re: What anime are you watching right now? Summer 2016 to now

Violet Evergarden movie It's... fine. I think it leans too much on Taylor being the ultimate bundle of joy (those chubby toddler fingers DEAR GOD ). You could definitely cut things out and make this just an episode in the series. However, you'd then lose the sense of progress within the setting; Vi...

Re: What anime are you watching right now? Summer 2016 to now

Blade of the Immortal ONA I only just put together that this is not the same series I watched in 2008. I spent like 3 hours trying to figure out where I left off... Anyway, this was just something that fell in-between the cracks for me. No complaints; I love watching characters I come to care about...

Re: News of Anime in Japan

It like... robs anything Digimon Adventure: Last Evolution Kizuna was trying to say... then again, so does 02's epilogue.

I haven't even seen that yet, and it was released only a month before this series premiers. Literally two weeks ago.

I just... don't get what they're thinking. :???:

Woops, spoke too soon , Volume 14.5 confirmed: https://www.reddit.com/r/LightNovels/comments/ekcdqh/news_wataru_has_confirmed_oregairu_short_story/ Wish list: * Haruno's invocation of co-dependence is directly confronted, and defeated. * Haruno and Hayama get their character arcs resolved. Re: Gundam (In All Its Incarnations) Mk. II

I can see where you're coming from with the character arcs; but I much prefer having them this way instead of just being a carbon copy of 0079. They could have gone the Aldnoah Zero route, and went for an original story that evoked OG Gundam in minor ways, but wasn't aping the 0079 formula. As far ...

Re: Gundam (In All Its Incarnations) Mk. II

You're arguing from the point that "0079 was the first, therefore it has to be better and its flaws don't matter". Nope, I'm saying its flaws are more justified, and are more even. They fit within the context the work was created in; a far more limited budget that got canned in the end, n...

Re: Gundam (In All Its Incarnations) Mk. II

I'll openly admit that I did not finish 0079 when I tried getting into it back in the day, so what I say might change for the later half of the show; but calling the first part more serious or even less painful to watch Character designs alone make it less painful. 0079 was a prototype show trying ...

Re: Gundam (In All Its Incarnations) Mk. II

Implying 99% of gundam anime don't milk space opera melodrama. (i'm not jabbing you, more so the gundam franchise as a whole) MSG hedged its bets better. It treated having young kids fighting a war as both a bad, and an unusual development. GS treated it as normal, and then used the "innocence...

Re: News of Anime in Japan

I've now finished the LN (well, as far as I can; there's no official English release of volume 14, and the fan translation of the last two chapters was more of an "overview".) I can say that my enthusiasm is kind of curbed. There's moments I'm still looking forward to being adapted (to inc...

Re: Gundam (In All Its Incarnations) Mk. II

I disagree that Seed (or even Destiny for the most part) is style over substance. SEED is better settei, trying to re-tell original MSG. It fails because its milking melodrama. Destiny is a quick re-hash, brimming with stock footage, where you get a Zaft doppelganger of the 1st season cast and 90% ...

Re: What manga are you reading right now?

Oregairu again. I "finished" volume 14, or rather as much of a translation as I could find, and a summation for the last two chapters. I really do like the... Confession scene. That goes as much as I expected for those two. But I think Wateru Watari caved in delivering the ending he'd been...

YES! YEEEEESSSSS!!!!!! My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU Anime Season 3 Premieres on April 9 Finishing the LN Now. The ending is wayyy overdue, like, nearing FMP territory. But, meh. WW didn't finish the LN until last November, so, what could they do? Anime only ending? Adapt ANOTHER? Utter foolishness....

Re: What manga are you reading right now?

Yahari Ore no Seishun Love (Oregairu) The original communication-difficulty LN (Komi Can't Communicate is good too, highly recommend it). And It just got weird for me. Volume 12, the buzz word is " co-dependence ". Is this how we figure out that Haruno was studying... Psychology? Boy, her...

Re: What anime are you watching right now? Summer 2016 to now

Darwin's Game I was told this was like Accel World. But Accel World had interesting Augmented reality ideas and world building. This does not. This is poorly animated, in episode 1, and the tension it builds around the invisible panda character disappears once you realize he is the one the complete...

Re: Top anime of the 2010s

Inuyashiki The ending felt a bit... rushed, misdelivered? But the core conflict between the old Man (an old man as a protagonist!) and the kid was absolutely gripping for me. When you're on the fringes of what is "human", and you know it , the choice seems to come down to condemning human...
