Vertigo (1953) Very good movie, as to be expected from Hitchcock. That said, it didn't quite live up to the hype. The first hour of the movie just was not very compelling. The twist at the end is fantastic, however. The film explores obsessive love and paranoia in a very effective and i...

I'm having a very hard time understanding the number 2 and number 3 positions. I've never seen Porco Rosso, but no one seems to go crazy over it. Millenium Actress is fantastic, but definitely not top 3 material, it's not even Kon's best work.

Literally.

But, there's no signs of any extra armour, is there? I think it's probably just that Unit01 could go to that depth for a short amount of time.

.You're better off just using yaoi for the whole male spectrum like yuri for female (with shoujo-ai being an out-of-fashion weeaboo coinage matching the obsolete shounen-ai). I think it's important to differentiate between yaoi, which can be pornographic, and shoenen-ai which is jus...

And Shinji runs away in episode 4, running away is a pretty big theme in Eva, I would have thought?

Even if they make minor changes , they are still changes . Why alter the original? It's pretty much guaranteed that whatever the change will be, it will mess the original, even in a smal degree. Japan and the West are two very different places with two very different languages. It's inevita...

I love episode 4, actually! It's great! The last scene with the long pause was one of the first times I realized that Evangelion isn't going to be like other anime.

Dubs do have a nasty habit of taking things out of the originally intended context. This is generally due to the director wanting to put their own spin on a series. Other reasons include shitty translations and actors. The Eva dub has at various points all of the above in it. Dubs can be done right...

This course of action is the only possible road ADV could take if they ever want the English language version of Evangelion to be taken seriously. What are you talking about? Unless you are saying that most anime fans are on the internet (which they aren't) then you are totally wrong in...

No, I don't think it can be considered canon for the TV series. It's 'canon' all by itself.

I like Lilith's new minimalist mask, but for you, there's still the one on the moon. Yeah, Moon-Lilith (or whatever it turns out to be) looks much cooler! The new mask just takes away from the "Jesus, that's a giant crucified with a spear stabbed into it!!" effect that...

Bad idea, Jimbo. It has all the potential for a grand disaster if handled even the least bit sloppy. Not to mention that in-jokes and the like would wreck all pretensions of seriousness and throw off a lot of people. Yeah, I think there's great potential for this going horribly wrong - however,...

Not everyone thinks it should be number one, I can understand that. But I think the majority would believe it deserves a spot somewhere in the top ten. I definitely agree that it should be in the top 10, yes. There is a lot of subtle humor found in the character interactions throughout the series. ...

I think this thread should be titled "Yaoi/Shonen-ai", considering most of what's been mentioned here appears to be shoenen-ai, rather than "extreme, graphic, boy-on-boy sex" (which isn't a fitting description for most yaoi, anyway!). Personally, I haven't see...

We don't have to go to all the way to bastardized Anime for the answer. Let's say for example, the movie adaptations of "V for Vendetta", and "The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen", "The Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy", etc. etc. Most people liked those film...

There's no way Cowboy Bebop is better than Evangelion, or, indeed, most of the series in that top 10. Cowboy Bebop is outstanding, but it's not as almighty as many suggest. The comedy in the series is often cringe-inducing-ly childish thanks to Ed, it's episodic nature means very few plo...
