Re: Announcement regarding recent forum changes

One more thing to note as of late: given the possibility that our admins are not always guaranteed to be around to deal with troublemakers who need to be temp-banned, some of the moderators now have access to the ban ability and will be able to give out short-term (a couple of hours to a couple of d...

Dude, if you're thinking of killing yourself, please don't. This is probably going to sound as dumb as hell, but you can be happy again.

Re: Misato's Cross hole

Believe me, I'm with you about the redesign, as are most other posters whenever it's brought up; I think it looks awful right next to the powerful, iconic original design and the change really does stick out. I don't like it any more than you do, but I do understand why they did it.

Re: That picture again...

If the thing on the lower-left corner is a person in very heavy winter clothing, it could mean it's someone overlooking Adam's excavation from the ice. The head-like object resembles Ultraman's head, which is why I think it's Adam being excavated.

Re: Misato's Cross hole

I've heard that argument before, but I don't really buy it. There's really no scene in the entire battle that couldn't have been done with the original design. Maybe you don't buy it, but do the animators not buy it? Animation isn't as easy as it looks, and the late 90s were predominantly hand-draw...

Re: Misato's Cross hole

Somehow, I like StrokeMeGoat's explanation for the physical change in the cross, but as for the symbolic change... yeah, having a hole drilled through it would make it easier to nail to a stake, I guess. It's an interesting little detail and I'd have to look, but I don't recall that anyone's brought...

Re: Official "Hello/Goodbye" Thread!

Thanks for welcoming me. ^_^ Wilkommen in EvaGeeks, Nao! ^_^ Yes, I started reading in this forum just after I had free access to the internet! And yeah, it has been quite a time since EVA 3.0 came out! Damn, I watched it the first time when the DVD/BD launched in Germany (which was at the end of 2...

Re: Restructuring the subforums here (Hopefully finalized)

So I've gone ahead with what I hope is the Final round of restructuring, following some internal discussions and the complaints about length. Some changes have been reverted, so that Completely Off-Topic is pretty much back to its old state. Related People has been shifted under General and Chit-Cha...

Re: The Wiki Thread (General)

By the way, did you read what FreakyFilmFan4ever wrote about it? I thought that she wrote a very good dissertation on the reality of the string quartet scenes -as a matter of fact, I "stole" the majority of my points from her! This is interesting, and I think this could go into a Theory a...

Re: Restructuring the subforums here

Please keep the feedback rolling in, guys! The two opinions expressed here ("it's too long" vs "it's more sensible this way") are the very ones we'd been weighing, and we'd like to see which one you favor more overall. However, on the positive side, I really like that "Every...

Re: Restructuring the subforums here

@TheFriskyIan - The key question is whether this change improves how people perceive the forum and find their way around. I understand the board looking weird and unfamiliar at first, but if the board continues to be a pain to navigate a week or two down the line that means we've made a mistake. We'...

Re: Announcement regarding recent forum changes

So I've given this some thought. Even accounting for all the users who don't specify their gender, EGF pretty clearly has male members in the majority and more male members in positions of high standing in the community than women. The four new moderators (all male) were active on this site as well ...

Re: Restructuring the subforums here

Based on staff discussions, we're going through another wave of restructuring. Do give us your feedback! Also - one idea we'd been batting about was merging "Fandom Area/Fan Works" into "Chit-Chat and General", while splitting "Fanfiction" and "Role-Playing" i...

Re: Announcement regarding recent forum changes

But it's not like the presence of women nullifies those things. You can be female dominated and still be sexist or alienate certain women. Agreed, absolutely. It's just that it seems to me like trying to find a solution to a problem that doesn't exist. But I'm no lady for sure, so maybe I don't not...

Re: Announcement regarding recent forum changes

I guess there's a way of extracting the number of people who assign their gender as "female" on the site but it's hard to get a representative sample, when a number of users mask their gender or pretend to be male to avoid sexist harassment. So I've been talking to Reichu and she pointed o...

Re: Announcement regarding recent forum changes

Are any of the new mods women? Are ANY of the current mods women? After losing two major female voices of the site recently in Reichu and Sailor Star Dust, I gotta be honest it made me raise an eyebrow at this place in light of discussions of gender across the general internet within recent years. ...

Re: Announcement regarding recent forum changes

Even now I know dozens of people who still lurk the hell out of this forum but never post anything got a variety of reasons: they often feel intimidated by what they feel is a very clique-y and elitist atmosphere, with apprehension by the forum format being a minor factor at best. The reputation of...

Re: Emoticons

:resurrect: My apologies for the current mess with the emoticons. The new smiley upload system is a bloody mess, and I tried to upload some smileys by Zeruss that were already on board but not being used, and it looks like the existing set of emojis has gone upside-down. I'm sorry for the mess! EDIT...
