Re: Celebrity RIP Thread

RIP Dame Vera Lynn , "the forces' sweetheart", age 103. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XySQbE-f1a4 It's sad and it's strange, because a couple of days ago I was thinking of whether any icons from that era still lived, and Vera Lynn was one of the few names I knew of who were still alive....

Re: Forum Wackiness

Okay, that really is weird. The user who was banned was penpen4life for the ban reasons stated (you'll see it in the ban notices thread) so by rights you shouldn't have gotten anything. You don't have a dynamic IP address or use a shared computer or anything like that, do you? That's the only reason...

Re: The use of Japanese narrative in NGE and NTE, including 3.0+1.0 (WIP)

Despite having seen Gunbuster many times over, I didn't manage to connect the dots with "BM-03", though its significance feels almost stupidly obvious in retrospect... https://media.discordapp.net/attachments/592025067160993863/717668714903764992/eva2-22_C1789_BD_20.png (If...

Re: What are you watching right now? (tv series + see OP!)

^ Not particularly surprised. "Complaining about shows you don't watch" is a trope on the tvtropes website for a reason.

Wasn't She-Ra originally associated with He-Man, or is there no connection here?

Re: Mari's vow to Shinji

Like you noted yourself, the Manga is a different continuity. And besides, what purpose would it serve for Sadamoto to lie about his work not being canon? This isn't a situation where a transparent attempt at deception breaks down forcing a creator to lie, like the case of J.J. Abrams lying that Ben...

Re: 3.0+1.0's Troll Potential

I'm sure I've come across the Battlestar Galactica version of this theory before - that NTE is a prequel and that "All of this has happened before and will happen again, so say we all..." Perhaps instead of a Galactica ending, we get the Game of Thrones ending. The Dragons (Evangelions) ar...

Re: Mari's vow to Shinji

I know the manga ain't canon worth shit but maybe the chapter dealing with her is more supplemental material? Dealing with who or what she's searching for? Perhaps bound to be retold in the new movie? Sadamoto explicitly states that he put that chapter in as fanservice and that it doesn't have any ...

Nadia and Gunbuster in NTE - why?

Eva 3.0 is a swerve on multiple levels. In addition to holding the real pathos of the show, 3.0 throws the previous Jo-Ha-Kyu / Kishotenketsu form of narrative construction into disarray. Rather than easing us into the world with an intro that shows the setting, like the cases of 1.0 and 2.0, 3.0 op...

Re: 3.0+1.0's Troll Potential

The ending is otherwise just RahXephon with an Eva coat of paint, complete with the counterpart mecha fusing together and the world being retuned and rainbows and eggs and things. This is a "take that" at the people from the late 90s who wouldn't shut the fuck up about RahXephon being an ...

Re: The use of Japanese narrative in NGE and NTE, including 3.0+1.0 (WIP)

This is such an interesting read! I highly agree there's more than meets the eye to the New Movie Editions, that things aren't just some "cash grab", but of course it's difficult to convince people otherwise if they're already set in their opinions. Thank you so much! ^_^ Yes, it's unfort...

Re: Thrice Upon A Humanity: The Deep Lore of NTE [WIP]

I've been wondering about all the William Blake stuff that's been turning up lately and I wonder if there's a thing or two in Blake's mythos that helps. 777 Nigoki turning into a giant panther - well, it might actually not be so much a panther as a tiger! "Tyger, Tyger, burning bright, in the f...

Re: The use of Japanese narrative in NGE and NTE, including 3.0+1.0 (WIP)

Part 2 Merging rails Evangelion 1.0 and to a lesser extent, 2.0, led to unhappy fan suggestions that NTE was a nothing more than a convenient cash grab, attempting to cash in on the nostalgia surrounding NGE and Evangelion’s enormous fanbase. Such a cynical interpretation may be easy to endorse but ...

The use of Japanese narrative in NGE and NTE, including 3.0+1.0 (WIP)

This is a work-in-progress and I'll be adding the parts that are more relevant to 3.0 + 1.0 as things go on. The first post will actually be more NGE-heavy than others, but this deals with narrative rather than with the specific plot details or deeper lore, so putting NGE and NTE side by side probab...

Great reply, Ursus! Curse you! :nyao: EDIT2: Ursus, you br...

Well, wow. I'll have to re-read everything here and redigest this, but this is an astounding amount of analysis. Very well done! I'd be shocked if at least some of this doesn't turn out to work in 3UAT. (One does have to ask, “Why didn’t Seele have Mark.09 neutralize both of Wille’s Evas before atte...

Re: Thrice Upon A Humanity: The Deep Lore of NTE [WIP]

I think you've missed one instance of the Seven Eyes of Seele : unless I'm mistaken, there are seven coffins on the moon , and the cover on each one of them is shaped like one of the eyes on the Seele symbol. Since the coffins appear to be beds or containers for Kaworu and any possible clones of him...

Re: Source and authenticity of End of Evangelion’s alternative endings

By the way. I am still counting. But would it not had be 14 Evangelions if you count unit 00 as well? (Units 00, 01, 02, 03, 04 + 9 Eva mass production). The only explanations I can come up with is that they're not counting Eva-00 because they consider it a prototype, or not counting Eva-01 because...

Re: Gendo's silent line: new theory

As far as I know, most human languages do conjugate for tense or indicate it in one form or another, although the number of tenses varies a lot between languages. English has twelve, which is actually more than most other languages do. IIRC, "I need you" would be "hitsuyoh'n da" ...
