Re: 3.0+1.0's Troll Potential

The ending is otherwise just RahXephon with an Eva coat of paint, complete with the counterpart mecha fusing together and the world being retuned and rainbows and eggs and things. This is a "take that" at the people from the late 90s who wouldn't shut the fuck up about RahXephon being an ...

Re: The use of Japanese narrative in NGE and NTE, including 3.0+1.0 (WIP)

This is such an interesting read! I highly agree there's more than meets the eye to the New Movie Editions, that things aren't just some "cash grab", but of course it's difficult to convince people otherwise if they're already set in their opinions. Thank you so much! ^_^ Yes, it's unfort...

Re: Thrice Upon A Humanity: The Deep Lore of NTE [WIP]

I've been wondering about all the William Blake stuff that's been turning up lately and I wonder if there's a thing or two in Blake's mythos that helps. 777 Nigoki turning into a giant panther - well, it might actually not be so much a panther as a tiger! "Tyger, Tyger, burning bright, in the f...

Re: The use of Japanese narrative in NGE and NTE, including 3.0+1.0 (WIP)

Part 2 Merging rails Evangelion 1.0 and to a lesser extent, 2.0, led to unhappy fan suggestions that NTE was a nothing more than a convenient cash grab, attempting to cash in on the nostalgia surrounding NGE and Evangelion’s enormous fanbase. Such a cynical interpretation may be easy to endorse but ...

The use of Japanese narrative in NGE and NTE, including 3.0+1.0 (WIP)

This is a work-in-progress and I'll be adding the parts that are more relevant to 3.0 + 1.0 as things go on. The first post will actually be more NGE-heavy than others, but this deals with narrative rather than with the specific plot details or deeper lore, so putting NGE and NTE side by side probab...

Great reply, Ursus! You packed a lot into just three paragraphs and have made me even more excited about doing Part II! :heehee: In fact, you've made me so giddy that I'm going to splurge on some stuff that will invariably receive more thorough coverage later. Curse you! :nyao: EDIT2: Ursus, you br...

Re: Adams, Children, and the Nature of the Cycle

Well, wow. I'll have to re-read everything here and redigest this, but this is an astounding amount of analysis. Very well done! I'd be shocked if at least some of this doesn't turn out to work in 3UAT. (One does have to ask, “Why didn’t Seele have Mark.09 neutralize both of Wille’s Evas before atte...

Come October 2022, we'll be like Gendo and Fuyutsuki observing Sachiel. "It's been fifteen years." :smirk:

Re: Thrice Upon A Humanity: The Deep Lore of NTE [WIP]

I think you've missed one instance of the Seven Eyes of Seele : unless I'm mistaken, there are seven coffins on the moon , and the cover on each one of them is shaped like one of the eyes on the Seele symbol. Since the coffins appear to be beds or containers for Kaworu and any possible clones of him...

Re: Source and authenticity of End of Evangelion’s alternative endings

By the way. I am still counting. But would it not had be 14 Evangelions if you count unit 00 as well? (Units 00, 01, 02, 03, 04 + 9 Eva mass production). The only explanations I can come up with is that they're not counting Eva-00 because they consider it a prototype, or not counting Eva-01 because...

Re: Gendo's silent line: new theory

As far as I know, most human languages do conjugate for tense or indicate it in one form or another, although the number of tenses varies a lot between languages. English has twelve, which is actually more than most other languages do. IIRC, "I need you" would be "hitsuyoh'n da" ...

I've had the same erratic logouts when posting, but selecting "remember me" when logging in seems to help. What makes it all the more bizarre is that I log out once I'm done here, but when I do, I get a message about the session information not matching and appear to remain logged in, unle...

2) He needs to emotionally disarm the woman who’s planned an attack against him. Sure, Casper betrayed Ritsuko and screwed up her plans, but, if Gendo was unaware of this change then he’s probably thinking that there might be other plans as well. He needs to do something before Ritsuko can call up ...

Re: Tengen Toppa WARK-angelion

The four Evas faced off against the four Devas and their "uniforms". Toji and his mom stood in front of Sanageyama's mountain monkey. Asuka and Kyoko faced off against Inumuta's diabolical dog. The two Reis faced off Jakuzure's snake. And that left Shinji (teeth chattering) facing Gamagori...

Re: Netflix: Ghost in the Shell - Sac 2045...

The graphics are an eyesore, and some of the episode plot summaries make me cringe. SAC and 2nd Gig were way better than this. Castlevania aside, there's the 3D CG in Yamato 2202 which is spectacular to look at, because it pulls off the impression of being classic 2D while actually being 3D. SAC and...

Gendo whacked the Anti-Spiral over the head and brought the fic back with the power of SCIENCE! Fuyutsuki said, "It's been six years now." Gendo said, "I feel old." Fuyu said, "Not as old as we'll be when Thrice Upon a Time comes out." Gendo said "Mmm-hmm." &q...

Re: Ritsuko in Instrumentality (EOE)

Good catch! It's funny, I just posted about why Gendo's silent line being "I needed you" worked so well in the other thread, and here's Ritsuko talking about how it's nice to feel wanted/needed in EoE. I wouldn't be surprised if this was snuck in by Anno as very subtle confirmation of what...

Re: Gendo's silent line: new theory

"I needed" you has the interesting contrast between the emotional attachment that Ritsuko wanted, versus Gendo's purely utilitarian requirements. The same phrase could be interpreted different ways by Gendo and Ritsuko, with Gendo's interpretation being clarified by him disposing of a now...

Re: Celebrity RIP Thread

Christopher Tolkien Sad indeed. No father could ever have asked for a more devoted son. I suppose I crossed from a mere "Lord of the Rings fan" to a genuine enthusiast of all matters related to Middle-Earth because of how much of his father's material he brought to light. Namarrie, Christ...
