I love it. Like they said, it adds a lot of dramatic effect. Its like, and reminds me of the way everyone popped into LCL in EoE.

ah, its been a while since I saw EOE. I just remembered there being skeletons in it.

Maybe it works a safety cage for the pilot once it is activated? seeing as it restrains Shinji. Maybe the new dummy plugs also need the pilot to work?

This is a little confusing - it looks like a series of snapshots (i.e. the faded wipe of Gendo and Kaji looks like a transition in progress rather than what might be a static frame) - so is the low framerate a deliberate effect and a part of the movie, or is the trailer fluidly animated too...
