Re: Why Shinji and Mari DID NOT end up as a couple: Explained
However, I don't think Kaworu and Shinji feelings are necessarily romantic on NGE. It's true they like each other, but it's intentionally ambiguous whether the feelings are romantic or not. Their relationship could always be read as a deep friendship. Sorry man, I disagree strongly. If they're just...

Re: Is the Human Instrumentality Project like Roko's Basilisk??
Yes! I'm impressed you arrived at this conclusion on your own, I for sure never did. Anno has said in an interview that this was the intention, and that Kaworu is an idealized form of a self-actualized Shinji. You can read more on said interview here . As a fan of Shinji and Kaworu, you might be in...

Re: Why Shinji and Mari DID NOT end up as a couple: Explained
But does he know that at all? Logically he should if everyone went through instrumentality together, but Instrumentality seems more selective in Rebuild. We don't get insights into Mari, for instance, but everyone else gets their mind exposed to us. Doesn't make much sense. I think it's part of the...

Re: What would you change about Evangelion?
Most likely. That said, in history there is no "what if". Shinji abused Asuka. Did it consume him afterwards? Sure. However, I'm not going to overlook his actions because of it. Do you remember when I mentioned some moments in which Asuka was nice to the people around her and concluded th...

Re: What would you change about Evangelion?
Nothing really. I don't like the Rebuild films as much, can't really articulate why. The entirety of Evangelion feels beyond my comprehension. Not that that's bad, it just annoys me because I feel as if I haven't even scratched the surface as to what any of it means.

Re: Why Shinji and Mari DID NOT end up as a couple: Explained
But you can't really say these two, as of now, are there to "generate gayness"; at the least all you can say now is that they generate potential bisexuality, and it's only true on the basis of plausible deniability. Mari is last seen running off with Shinji, Kaworu is last seen standing s...

Re: Last Movie You Watched
Brokeback Mountain. I know, I know - it's the gay cowboy movie. But it is so, so, so much more than that. I watched it last night thinking it was a usual Western film and I was left questioning my existence again, only this time in a more confusing homoerotic way. I suppose Eva has that element too...

Re: What are your thoughts on the fan fictions of Shinji and Asuka having kids?
I find it very weird to ship characters in general - let alone in this series. Shinji is definitely not a "stud, he's fruity and makes Elton John look like G.I. Joe in comparison. Also, there's the fact he downright hates Asuka because she is a rude brat who projects her insecurities onto other...

Re: Is the Human Instrumentality Project like Roko's Basilisk??
IIRC, the interview snippet about religious symbolism has been pulled from its specific context and used as a kind of thought-terminating cliche ... what was said was closer to "the religious symbolism doesn't have Christian meaning" as in, the creators don't consider it an authentically ...

Re: How did Lilith get on the cross?
That bugged me as well when I first saw it. Perhaps Lillith grows on a cross? There's probably some esoteric symbolic meaning to it.

Re: What accent should Touji Suzuhara speak if he ever had one in the English for his Osaka accent?
If we're going with "The Idiot from Osaka" trope as a basis then I think a British chav accent could translate well. You still get chavs in rural areas. A rough working-class Bristolian, Swindon or broadly Southwest Country accent maybe? A mix between country and street. It would suit Touj...

Re: Is the Human Instrumentality Project like Roko's Basilisk??
I have heard about Twin Peaks before, I saw it in a recommendations list after I finished The X-Files. I might watch it tonight. Every scene in EoE left me on the edge of my seat and I felt like Charlie in that scene of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia trying to connect the dots. Feels like a breat...

Re: Evangelion and Personality Disorders.
So I finished watching Eva about an hour or so ago. I have many questions and I am taking time to process wtf I just watched. What hit home most was Hideaki Anno's quote in an interview when asked "What parts don't you like?": The parts where I see myself I relate a lot to Shinji and his p...

Is the Human Instrumentality Project like Roko's Basilisk??
Hiya, newbie here. I recently finished the Evangelion show and EoE film, and yes I am emotionally traumatised thanks for asking. Probably my first introduction to the 'lore' behind this messed-up franchise before I had seen Eva was this video of Alex Jones inadvertently explaining the story (unsure ...

Dundee here. Not many of us it seems, at least from personal experience. Most anime fans outside Japan seem to be Americans.

Hello! I am a VeryConfusedDingus. The reason I have chosen that username is because I have never seen the original anime or fully watched any Evangelion-related media - which I plan to soon. So I am going into this 90% blind and confused. You're probably wondering why someone who has never watched t...
