Re: Discussion thread about the crossover between Evangelion, Ultraman, Godzilla and Kamen Rider. What we should expect?
Well, the first "Shin" titled thing by Anno . The prefix itself has been around for decades for other things; many a Go Nagai sequel/reboot comes to mind Said "Shin" prefix usually alternates between 真 and 新, each with clear definition of "True" and "New", li...

the fact that the site affirmed that Shin Evangelion (3.0 + 1.0) will be part of the collaboration but the site does not refer to the Rebuild of Evangelion saga itself, so it can be that the site may have confirmed that the Angels and the plot's stuff of 1.0, 2.0 and 3.0 will not be involved in SJP...

The website posted Anno's personal commentary regarding the purpose and goal of SJHU as project, you can read the original here: https://sjhu.jp/news/14/ Here's a copy of my translation from Twitter: SJHU is conceived through discussions among the involved companies, from the idea of bringing togeth...

I made this a while ago and might as well put this here, a clever variation of Anno's classic repeating imageries but with a different context and outcome. https://media1.giphy.com/media/vJflg0zYOzADu3hQzn/giphy.gif?cid=790b76116c493977ccc2f67d68aae29647ac91e3abacf2cd&rid=giphy.gif&ct=g

Re: Where do we go from here?
You know how the official 1.0-3.0 recap video from Khara was titled "Koremade no Evangelion" (Previously, in Evangelion), then the 3.0+1.0 recap is "Genzai no Evangelion" (Currently, in Evangelion), so I was expecting a "Korekara no Evangelion" (Evangelion, from now on....

Re: Shin evangelion for the 2022 oscars?
I feel like Eva has the upper hand in terms of sheer sentiment alone, like being the final film of a tetralogy that took 9 years to come out and from being the director who very recently revived Godzilla's popularity among youngsters in Japan, but Belle 's 14-minutes standing ovation at Cannes is he...

Re: Shin evangelion for the 2022 oscars?
Well, questionable camera angle choices aside, even if Eva was eligible I don't think Amazon wants to roll out a massive Academy campaign for it and would rather spend the money on their originals. I don't know what originals they're releasing this year aside from Cinderella , but the previous years...

Re: Shin evangelion for the 2022 oscars?
Prior to pandemic, Oscars only allow films that at least have a week of theatrical release in the US to be eligible (and Eva has none so far) and this rule was made in response to the ever-growing streaming-only films on Netflix and AmaPrime, although it was dropped since last year so streaming-only...

Re: Is this a feeling of... Completeness? From Evangelion?
I have a big thread on Twitter coming, which won't happen anytime soon. Give me a few days for me to absorb everything, and once I'm done writing it, I'm more than excited to share it here! As Gendo's Papa said, it's all very personal and honestly there's little to debate, but that's okay. Life expe...

Re: Is this a feeling of... Completeness? From Evangelion?
I feel like I emerged from the 2 hour and 35 minutes of the film feeling... enlightened. Never have I felt touched, understood, and comforted by a film like this. It's probably my deepest cinema experience, and I've seen stuff from Malick, Kubrick, Bergman, and Tarkovsky! ( Not trying to sound like ...

Among the new actors, I can totally vouch for Daman Mills. I recently played Ys IX where he as a starring role and he's definitely a standout, very excited to hear his version of Kaworu!

Re: Amazon Prime Video release
I completely forget that 3.333 is also coming to disc this month because of 3.0+1.01 lawl I was wondering (altho most likely not the case) if the latter also arriving to Prime Japan early is to compensate its Blu-ray release date being shifted further, I know disc production and manufacturing activi...

Re: Amazon Prime Video release
I feel like Ogata, Mitsuishi, and Tachiki are the ones whose voices have noticeably changed between early NGE and Rebuild. Mitsuishi did note she was struggling to regain her youthful voice for Misato in 1.0/2.0 and was glad when 3.0 allowed her to use her "default" adult voice.

^^^ I mean, this was shown and heavily implied -if not confirmed- in Gendo's 3.0 dialogue, so it doesn't fall into 3.0+1.0's spoiler territory.

Re: Shin Evangelion beats franchise record for the first day at the box office
Shin Evangelion has ended its theatrical run with an estimated value of 10.246 Billion Yen at the box office . As of July 21, most theaters are retiring the film's showtimes in favor of new ones after becoming a domestic box office sensation for four months. There's still a few theaters screening i...

Re: Waiting for Evangelion:3.0+1.0
Officially, "Rebuild of Evangelion" is the name for a series of making-of featurette in each film's Blu-ray extras but I think at this point, it's a legitimate blanket term for the tetralogy among English-speaking audience. It feels less mundane and technical as "Evangelion: New Theat...

Re: Waiting for Evangelion:3.0+1.0
Well, isn't this surprising? Amazon Prime Japan teased a major Evangelion announcement at 10AM Japan time. Most likely about Prime Japan catching up to 3.0+1.01, but even that would be quite the news since I don't know if there's any prior case where an anime film like this being made available on s...
