Re: A New Official Happy Birthday Thread
I knowm I'm very late, but thanks to all the well-wishers and, I guess, a happy birthday to Kuribo too!

Re: Nerv, the JSSDF, and Anno's nationalism
Being influenced by Christian beliefs and using Christian iconography doesn't necessitate being Christian, I'd say. There's no reason leaving the faith behind should also go with a disinterest in some of its particulars. Anyway, I'm fairly certain Oshii used to be Christian and even thought about be...

Re: The flaws and/or artistic validity of Shin and NTE as a whole
Ok then, it’s official. There are only four people here who actually like NTE out of everyone else. Artistic validity comes from people who are willing to see and appreciate the artistic value of which there are so few. So by logic, there is little to no artistic validity of NTE and it is therefore ...

Re: The flaws and/or artistic validity of Shin and NTE as a whole
"Artistic validity", lmao, wonder what I was on when I came up with that. For the me right now, seems like a stupid thing to ask about. Anyway, my final say on NTE (which I guess should go here?) is that it's neither as bad as its detractors insist nor as good as its supporters think. A lo...

Re: Superhero/Comic Based Films & Tv - Vol.2
The Doctor Strange sequel is the first time in a long while I've been excited for a superhero movie, largely because of the involvement of Sam Raimi. I just hope his style won't be watered down too much.

Re: Comprehensive and in-depth analysis of Asuka and Shinji relationship in 3.0+1.0 and implications for the ending
Derantor: I accept your apology. I guess I should try to explain myself-it's not that I have "already determined" what NTE is, but based on what I think of and can glean from it, I don't understand how your interpretation makes sense. In my view, NTE is a story, at its base, about a selfi...

Re: Comprehensive and in-depth analysis of Asuka and Shinji relationship in 3.0+1.0 and implications for the ending
I agree 100%, and that's more or less what I was arguing. I see. It didn't come off to me that way which is why I started this conversation in the first place. And the narrative falling apart because a scene contradicts your preferred, "clean" interpretation is just hyperbole. It's not th...

Re: Comprehensive and in-depth analysis of Asuka and Shinji relationship in 3.0+1.0 and implications for the ending
Using previous scenes as supporting argument doesn't preclude the possibility that, while the execution of what was intended was consistent in those scenes, it became inconsistent due to Asuka's. I agree that the sum total of those scenes is attempting to display Shinji as having become selfless. B...

Re: Cowboy Bebop
Seeing as this is the dedicated Cowboy Bebop thread, I'll put my thoughts on the live-action show (or its first episode, which is the only one I've watched) here. I guess you could argue that judging a series' worth after having only seen its first episode is a bit...hasty and wrong, but I honestly ...

040: [Not a comment, but WTH is "Bashar"?] A non-physical being who speaks through channel and good friend Darryl Anka, obviously. I honestly don't know-the most likely explanation is that it's somehow a Dune reference, seeing as there's a military rank of "Bashar" there. Commen...

Re: Gundam (In All Its Incarnations) Mk. II
Alaska Slim: I haven't seen most of IBO, so I'm not really going to take part in this conversation anymore, as I feel I just lack the necessary knowledge to make any good and qualified calls. I don't really know in detail what Tekkadan gets up to, so I can't really, in my view, make judgment calls ...

Re: Gundam (In All Its Incarnations) Mk. II
Yeah, I'll think I'll watch Zeta next-it'll probably also be a lot more Tomino than the MSG movies, so I guess we'll see just how much his style works for me. Based on 0079, I'll probably like Char, the visual aesthetics and, if it's retained from Zeta's prequel, the genuine feeling of watching a wa...

Re: Gundam (In All Its Incarnations) Mk. II
Blockio: I did enjoy the 0079 movies more, so it's entirely possible IBO isn't my thing, but other Gundam works might be. Besides, if anything, my central complaint with IBO's darkness would be that it's not taken all that seriously for my liking, not that it's there. (Unless you meant that it's on...

Re: Gundam (In All Its Incarnations) Mk. II
Watched the first four and a half? five? episodes of IBO. Can't really say I was impressed-none of it was bad by any stretch, but I just couldn't find any way to really interest myself in it, I guess. It feels, from what I've seen, like one of those works which are set in such a setting that they ba...
