Re: Pacific Rim
I would like to see him go back to Hellboy just for the weirdness of a movie being a De-Boot instead of a Re-Boot.

Re: [Film] The Trailers & Upcoming Films Thread
I think Independence Day was too much of its era for a sequel to work. It was just 1996 in movie form, you can't recapture that.

Re: Star Wars Episode II - A New Thread
I disagree.
I suppose it's a matter of personal taste.
SPOILER: Show
Both his initial fight with Obi-Wan where he drags Kenobi into the flames and tortures him and the bit where he just completely schools Reva were enthralling to me.
I suppose it's a matter of personal taste.

Anyone else watching Strange New Worlds?
I find there's a lot of subtle yet extremely frustrating queerbaiting in it.

Re: All Evageeks should watch HBO's True Detective
Now that sounds different. That sounds less like a pulp detective plot hook and more like a scifi one.

despite the title and being set in the Himalayas, has no references to an abominable snowman whatsoever, lol

There seems to be a concerted, and largely successful, effort to make Darth Vader scary again.

Re: Star Wars Episode II - A New Thread
I liked Kenobi. It was dumb. It was "unnecessary". It didn't make a hell of a lot of sense continuity wise. It was really fun and did something interesting with the character, though, and I enjoyed it. I hope these stop milking these interquel stories, but if they don't, I hope they come o...

Re: Jurassic World
I will swear to my dying day that Fallen Kingdom was a rejected script for Jurassic Park 3, or perhaps one that was rejected for JP2 before Crichton wrote a sequel novel, which was very lightly retooled to work as a sequel to Jurassic World. Especially since it seems to lean in a very weird way to t...

Re: Hikari fanfiction
I didn't finish them, but both of my Marvel megacrossovers from back in the day had Hikari as a main protagonist.
There's also an amazing Hikari/Shinji 3-part megastory that's really good, but it's hard to find bc it's not on FF.net. I can't remember the title at the moment.

I'm still working on the big epic, just focusing on other stuff right now.
I get that the most popular fics are canon-derivatives, but there's definitely exceptions to the rule. *Cough*

I think puppetry, stop motion, etc will hang around as artistic choices and eventually gain popularity again as audiences and artists get tired of the supposed realism of CGI.

Re: Alien & Predator General!
Aren't the Predators being akin to human big game hunters with a bunch of gadgets sort of the point? I know that thread was largely lost after the first movie, but the original Predator was a both a subtle send up of action movies in general as well as a critique of violence and the culture of mascu...

I hope we get more Monsterverse Godzilla no matter how it works out just because I love that iteration of the character. Godzilla as a big grumpy grump is hilarious.

Re: Star Wars Episode II - A New Thread
Yeah, in all honesty, it sucked. Instead of it being a series that suddenly veers into being a season 2.5 of another show , it should have just been a couple of episodes in the next season of Mando . Like, the idea was interesting but the series lacked commitment and since it wasn't willing to a...

Re: Jurassic World
I still dream of one day getting a 6-10 episode long premium channel prestige format adaptation of Jurassic Park which is faithful to the plot and themes of the novel, without Crichton himself dumbing it down or David Koepp script doctoring it or Spielberg inserting heavy handed messaging.

Re: Superhero/Comic Based Films & Tv - Vol.2
I saw *The Batman*. I think it's the best Batman movie. I liked the suit, Catwoman is hot, and I dug the car. I also enjoyed how it was such a departure from every other Batman film, but managed to both evoke the best parts of each of them without feeling derivative and stand on its own without some...

Re: I think Yui has bad taste in men.
Yui's great at taking a goal and finding the most absurd way to reach it. This may be one of my favorite quotes on Evageeks. But in all honestly, why do women always seem to go for the douche bags? To answer your question CT, yeah, she does. Because they shoot their shot. Women date guys that actua...

Re: Oh The Horror!
Huh, I thought that was a nod to realism. Doesn't the Halloween series take place in Illinois? IIRC they have a fairly comprehensive gun control regime. I assumed she had those types of weapons because that's all she was allowed to own, lol.
