Re: What caused the Angels to start attacking after 15 years?

What confuses me about alien explanation is how backwards it is in application; instead of neatly falling into empty places it basically overwrites everything we know from the show itself. It's "stop believing your lying eyes" kind of explanation. The knowledge that the “Angels” are actua...

Re: Can an Evangelion have the soul of the pilot's father?

I think the “return to womb” symbolism is more of a narrative thing than an in-universe limitation of the technology. For one, we don’t know whose soul is in Unit-0 but it’s definitely not Rei’s mother because she either (a) doesn’t have one, or (b) Yui is technically her “mother” but she’s already ...

Re: NTE's interpretation of the characters

^ Asuka is by far the most egregious example of this, I HAVE to believe that the “curse of Eva” also kept her mentally stunted because the alternative proposition is that this 28 year old woman still has hang-ups over some boy she knew for a couple months 14 goddamn years ago.

And absolutely minuscule compared to the bloated Hollywood budgets here in America. The recent TMNT animated movie cost 3x that.

Re: Evangelion 2.0 CRC: Tsurumaki Interview

Europeans really love anime as much as Latin Americans I suppose... It's a mainstream thing, unlike in the US. Europe also has a flourishing comics scene, whereas the American comics industry is being kept on life support to justify shitty superhero movies. Traditionally, comics and animation has n...

Re: Evangelion References and Homages

I looked it up and apparently it was a part of a collab event with a bunch of other anime tie-in skins… so apparently not only intentional but officially sanctioned, lol.

Re: NTE's interpretation of the characters

I’m not arguing it from a technical “how would this work in-universe” perspective, but from an out of universe character/narrative perspective. THE core aspect of ReiQ’s character is that she is her own distinct individual from Rei2. Why muddy the waters by having Rei2 inherit her memories? It just ...

Re: NTE's interpretation of the characters

PS: I don't think long-hair Rei is really an amalgamation. I think she is just Rei II with Rei Q the memories. ……is that not an amalgamation? What is a person but the sum of their memories and experiences? Long-haired Rei is one of the many things in the Rebuilds that make me question why the hell ...

Re: NTE's interpretation of the characters

I don’t think there’s really enough to make a conclusive judgment either way but it seemed like he accepted his fate pretty quickly in EoE, I read it as him shooting his shot knowing full well the chances of success were fairly low. From his perspective, the chance of success with Rei 3 might only b...

Re: NTE's interpretation of the characters

He believes as he keeps iterating her that she'll become easier to control, and in his own hubris comes to find out that the opposite is true, and that Rei is amalgamating. I don’t think Rei 3 was part of his original plan, more a necessity as a consequence of Rei 2’s untimely demise. I don’t think...

Re: NTE's interpretation of the characters

I’m pretty sure most people who talk about Rei’s character positively in the Rebuilds are in fact referring to ReiQ. If anything Rei2 gets LESS development than in the anime even if only due to runtime. Rei3 in the anime unfortunately ends up being more of a plot device - there’s some lip service pa...

Re: Rebuild Ending encourages viewers to embrace reality less than the EOE ending

Eva is absolutely looked at as an action show first If this was true when it came out, it certainly isn’t anymore, because nowadays Eva is looked at almost universally as a “psychological” show first and foremost. Whether or not it’s actually true, Eva’s reputation is by far “psychological show mas...

Re: Rebuild Ending encourages viewers to embrace reality less than the EOE ending

Apologies if I'm missing something but I can't see what point you're getting at... You believe that the text here seems to imply that Shinji made an escapist wish in the end (and therefore that story's message here is escapist), correct? If so, I just can't see how that's the case, and none of the ...

Re: Rebuild Ending encourages viewers to embrace reality less than the EOE ending

2) I thought the consensus was that he remains in minus space, but the Eva-less world is for the other characters? Well, it’s the specific nature of the minus-space. Is the “epilogue” taking place in a new world that he created there, or is it purely a “going into the beyond” afterlife type scene w...

Re: Rebuild Ending encourages viewers to embrace reality less than the EOE ending

We literally see him go into what appears to be an entirely new world at the end of the movie. If the language was intentionally chosen to trick the audience into believing that Shinji created a new world separate from the “main reality” of the story, then I truly don’t understand what Anno was goin...

Re: Rebuild Ending encourages viewers to embrace reality less than the EOE ending

I’m not arguing about what Anno intended by the ending, I’m arguing that it’s shockingly poorly written because what the text seems to imply is completely antithetical to the presumed authorial intent. e.g. Shinji never wished for such a thing though That may not have been the intent, but it certain...

Re: Rebuild Ending encourages viewers to embrace reality less than the EOE ending

I posted about this elsewhere on the site, bit I really don't thini the ending scene is meant to be read literally. It's about Anno and the audience moving on, with the rest of the Eva cast (other than protag Shinji and newish character Mari) leaving the frame on a train. I agree that that’s (proba...

Re: Why didn’t Midori try to hunt down Shinji after the end?

I think it’s straight up just not an option. I’m increasingly of the opinion that Shinji and Mari sacrificed themselves at the end and are trapped forever in the negative zone, because every explanation for how the final scene might take place in the reset “outside world” has a TON of holes and requ...

Re: Original Asuka

It doesn't matter, the point of Shikinami is that her entire existance is being an expendable jobber. Both in-universe and in the narrative. I like to imagine that her angst over being a copy of “original Asuka” in the narrative is an intentional reflection of her being a copy of “original Asuka” i...
