The overall quality of the second part was pretty funny.

Rebuild always had this fanfic-tier feeling to it, so I wasn't really surprised at the ending.

End of Evangelion had quite a concrete ending with numerous hints building the bigger picture. Perhaps this one will have those too.

It's simple fanservice. Anno Hideaki-san is an old guard otaku and fanservice is a big part of anime otaku culture. Some sexual imagery is thematically important, of course. Eros and Thanatos.
