Re: Gendo's silent line: new theory

FreakyFilm: I hope you really were not offended. Anyway, I will take my turn with the Rorschach test. I don't think the dialogue felt humilating because Gendo's words showed contempt for Ritsuko, but because of Ritsuko's reaction to them. Moreover, I don't think the actress sounds defeated after lis...

Re: Gendo's silent line: new theory

To me the reason for cutting the audio is clearly narrative. It's like Bastian screaming his mother's name at the end of the Neverending Story movie: if you heard what was said it would add nothing (and maybe subtract something), so the best choice is to make it impossible to hear. It is a common de...

Re: Gendo's silent line: new theory

No one is flattered by a man with a gun pointed at them. I think that the gun didn't affect very much Ritsuko emotionally, since she pointed her first. She expected that gun, because she was very aggressive in the first place. Gendo's words, on the other side, were gratuitous: she listened to them ...

Re: Gendo's silent line: new theory

Ritsuko's face changes expression while listening to Gendo. To me it is clear that she does hear him very well. Moreover, I don't think she's following Seele's orders. She decides to reprogram the Magi when she gets the chance. Why on Earth should she seek revenge doing what Seele tells her? She was...

Re: Apostles?

A pity for Mr. Cannarsi. Things like this are inevitable though when someone is as obsessed with literal translation as Anno seems to be. I recently went through a rewatch of the series, and I used the Cannarsi version. This time I wasn't looking for errors, but just trying to enjoy the show. It tu...

Re: An analysis I spent 3 years on: understanding Eva, or the gospel of a new century

Well, the contents are good, but there is a problem with editing (IMO). The rhythm is both fast and flat, which makes it kind of difficult to follow after a while. I think it would be nice if you slowed the pace down (consider pausing!), used less layers simultaneously and (I know this would be a lo...

Perfect X-Mas surprise present, thank you. I'm going to watch it right now.

Re: Mother is the First other: The Human Instrumentality Project and Lacanian Psychoanalysis

I did a little check and I was wrong too. Klein spaces are called after Oskar Klein, who was still another mathematician, less famous than Felix. It's a very common surname.

Re: Mother is the First other: The Human Instrumentality Project and Lacanian Psychoanalysis

I don't remember the exact quote you are talking about, but a "Klein space", or anyway a Kein geometry, has nothing to do with Melanie Klein. Felix Klein was one of the most important mathematicians of all times...

Re: Gendo's silent line: new theory

IMO, Ritsuko understands the reasons behind her mother's death during episode 20, when she is studying the procedure of the salvage experiment, and particularly as she chews on the report of its failure (which I think was a fake hiding the creation of Rei from Naoko). At the end of that month we see...

Zugzwang vindicated

I'm bringing this back up because it resonates with the latest discussions about Rei. Fuyutsuki "made Rei" in the sense that he, unlike Gendo or others at Gehirn, was aware of Yui's plan all along. He was the "external hand" helping Yui to carry on her vision while trapped inside...

Re: Gendo's silent line: new theory

Hello there H1111, I really like your theory, because including Naoko in the line of dialogue would make it far more interesting (since Magi play the most deciding role in the scene) than just referring to the two of them, as in "I need you". But there's one thing I don't understand. Maybe...

Re: Apostles?

Yes, Khara instructed all translators to be as literal as possible, but the Italian situation is unique. Gualtiero Cannarsi, who already adapted the old version of the series (the one everybody likes better) twenty years ago, in the meantime has developed a personal approach to adaptation and transl...

Re: Apostles?

Thank you for the explanation! It's the first time I read something this precise. PS: the adaptation wasn't pulled exclusively because of the Shito issue. Or because of the translation issue in general. The main problem, IMO, is the failed alchemy between the adapted translation and the dubbing perf...

Re: Evasophy - A to be 5 part evangelion analysis featuring philosophers such as Hegel, Stirner, Freud, Zivek and more

In my not-so-humble opinion, these videos are not interesting. The thinkers analized are well-known and their presentation is superficial, with the result of maximum boredom. It is apparent that there is no direct knowledge of the works of the authors but just of readings by others (see Zizek). More...

Re: Rei's soul(s)

So Rei II would be different from her iterations (more passive) because of the existence of the 00, keeping part (or all) of Lilith's soul?

Re: Lilith and Yui's Contact Experiment, and Related Subjects

Didn't mean that Unit 01 is Lilith's body; I was just saying that the giant in Terminal Dogma is Lilith with her original body. On the other hand, I'm almost sure that Rei 1's body is Yui's body recomposed. Then they cloned her. Regarding the issue of memory, I doubt that souls retain it: otherwise ...

Re: Lilith and Yui's Contact Experiment, and Related Subjects

The idea that Rei 1 retained Yui's memory, and that it got lost when she was strangled (unlike Lilith's soul, which was passed on) is very interesting. That would give to her death a whole other level of significance. This is "entering my head-canon", as they say (if no contradictions come...

Re: Yet another Contact Experiment

PS: I created this thread with one end, that is discussing the hypothesis of a Contact Experiment with Unit 00 before Naoko's death. The idea still seems to me simpler than what is actual consensus around this issue. The side-discussion about Destrudo came up along these lines but shouldn't take the...
