Re: Shin Eva - Official Social Media
lmao While "Bye-Bye all of Evangelion" is kinda wonky, it is very faithful to the Japanese original. I suspect Dan Kanematsu was once again on translation-duty - this lack of feel for the English language is kind of his style. He is. What other translator would Anno use but him? Though I ...

Re: Stuff that you would like to see in Evangelion 3.0+1.0
This would be a bit farfetched but I'd like to see Bonnie Tyler's Total Eclipse of the Heart (https://youtu.be/0IV7GapuKnw), or at the very least a Japanese-language cover of it be used for the climax (perhaps get Nana Mizuki to sing it).

Re: Netflix English Dub Discussion
I've been hearing that Asuka has some kind of accent (pretty likely Irish considering her VA). This true?

Re: Does Rei Ayanami have schizophrenia?
Rei's behaviour is a bi-product of her upbringing I believe. If Anno wished to make her schizophrenic, then it seems it remained a concept and nothing more. That was his original intent except he didn't know how to write a schizophrenic character properly. Most likely Rei would have hallucinated a ...

I heard Rei more likely has Schizoid Personality Disorder.

Re: Adult Swim NTE differences?
I don't know. They've re-edited NTE before on Adult Swim. (At least, I think it was Adult Swim, and not Toonami.) Even if they're night-time programing, and even though the FCC has no jurisdiction over subscription-based media (such as cable network channels), a lot of networks still see it as good...

Does Rei Ayanami have schizophrenia?
According to her Wikipedia page, Rei is categorized as having Schizophrenia. Additionally, Anno has admitted in an interview that he tried to make her a schizophrenic but couldn't. But let's see if Rei really has it, based on the DSM-V criteria (as outlined below). According to the Diagnostic and St...

Re: How grimdark is Evangelion?
A world where humanity is on the edge and people are making the horrific choice to turn thirteen year olds into ten foot tall Catholic Space Nazis to fight ravening hordes of green English football hooligans is grimdark. Don't forget undead Terminators, perpetually-hungry Xenomorphs, blue-skinned s...

Re: How grimdark is Evangelion?
I didn't saw any of these anime so I can't compare, but I'll try to answer. I don't think NGE is really grimdark. Post ep 19 is pretty depressing, but the majority of the series along with the ending don't feel grimdark to me, at least not W40k level. EOE is though, even with the "happy" ...

How grimdark is Evangelion?
I've been hearing across numerous online circles that Evangelion is incredibly grimdark but how grimdark is it really, especially considering that I watched stuff like MD Geist, Genocyber and Gantz?

Re: The seven deadly sins of Evangelion
Shinji hits every one of the seven deadly sins at some point in the show. Pride? Episodes 3 (disobeying Misato’s orders) and 16. (“You are number one!” “Battle is a man’s job!”) Lust? Episodes 5 (Rei dressing), 8 (Asuka undressing), 9 (Asuka sleeping), 20 (“Become one with me”), and EoE (“I know ab...

Re: The seven deadly sins of Evangelion
So, like many things, you can more broadly define it, personally, or as a society, but if we're talking about something from a religion, it doesn't make sense to use external definitions that are contradictory. So, assuming that Misato fits Gluttony better (in a religious sense, which is kind of wh...

Re: The seven deadly sins of Evangelion
What you're describing here is most certainly gluttony. A number of the characters exhibit multiple things, and I think lust is better suited to another character. Fuyutsuki in particular is shown to covet Yui Ikari. Lust is the desire for pleasure. It can cover anything, not just sex. Examples of ...

The seven deadly sins of Evangelion
Considering the amount of Judeo-Christian imagery and symbolism in the show, it's not complete without the Seven Deadly Sins, and certain characters embody this vice, which also proves to be their undoing. * Asuka Langley Soryuu represents Pride . Her incredibly arrogant and egotistical attitude bli...

Re: Stuff that you would like to see in Evangelion 3.0+1.0
I'm picturing Truth in FMA-B. It's much more dickish than Truth though. Whereas Truth only punishes those who dare transgress the laws of equivalent exchange, "real" torments the cast for his own twisted sense of amusement. OFC, being that this is Anno, there might be some twist to his ch...

Re: Is Hideaki Anno the Japanese Kurt Cobain?
Sounds like you should watch the video I linked out. There are some pretty loaded assertions there that can't go without comment. I see now, though I still also see similarities between Anno and those 4+ guys with depression and Gene Ray. Speaking of comparing Anno to Lucas, I'd also like to mentio...

Re: Stuff that you would like to see in Evangelion 3.0+1.0
I have some ideas that I would like to see in Evangelion 3.0+1.0. * A wholly-new villain, perhaps one that has been pulling the strings off of everyone and is behind the events of not only Rebuild but the original series, including resetting the world after End of Evangelion , leading to the events ...

Re: Is Hideaki Anno the Japanese Kurt Cobain?
You can swap out Kurt Cobain with pretty much any artist that has ever struggled with depression. Is Hideaki Anno the Japanese Chester Bennington? Is Hideaki Anno the Japanese Vincent van Gogh? Is Hideaki Anno the Japanese Edgar Allan Poe? The better question is, "Is Hideaki Anno the Japanese ...

Is Hideaki Anno the Japanese Kurt Cobain?
After having watched The End of Evangelion and taking a look on Hideaki Anno's history, I brought myself to the question if Hideaki Anno is the Japanese equivalent of Kurt Cobain, especially when you consider that both were loners in their youth with a passion for their respective mediums (art for A...
