Almost every eva fan I met was a girl and I find a website full of eva fans and I find no girls?

There have been quite a large number in the past, but they seem mostly to have drifted away over the years.

I've been thinking about the lack of women on this forum's staff recently. I need a female perspective on a few things...

For one perspective: I'm a 'tumblr gay' and I've noticed a vibe shift between women Eva fans and their views on the franchise, at least among the kind that post on tumblr. A lot of them lost prior active interest as the Rebuild films drifted more and more toward, for lack of a better word, failures of feminism. I've seen many, many critiques that take extreme disinterest with the way women are not just written, but the way they're framed by the camera. That's not to say no women liked the Rebuilds, but it makes sense to me instinctively that the Rebuilds don't inspire lasting engagement beyond either 'liking it OK' or criticizing its gender dynamics, which you can only dwell on for so long. Even if you ignore that angle, the hardcore consolidation of focus on Shinji is a swing away from focus on the female cast, and heavyweights like Misato or Asuka are relegated to supporting roles. I can't say because I'm not a woman, but I don't see as much attractive material as compared to NGE. Another guess, and this might be controversial, is that the elitism some internet forums tend to generate is a kind of right-brained, dictatorial, chauvinistic, insert phallocentric adjective here kind of beat, whereas you're more likely to find what women Eva fans are still active pretty much anywhere else, even 4chan.

Thank God I don't use tumblr much anymore I guess.

Also I remember plenty of women here, but there's less now, yeah. Or seems like it. Which is a real shame.
I can think of many reasons. There have been users in the past that would have driven them away no doubt.

Digital Third Impact cleared the board of all but a few who rejected Instrumentality (Reddit, Facebook)

This disaster included, but was not limited to, women.

I don't know if we have enough data to say for sure that there are no women here. For starters, many users don't report their gender.
But if we consider that to be true, then I have a theory. There have always been more men than women here. Now that we have fewer users posting regularly (many still access the site, but don't post), this becomes more evident. It's not that women specifically left. Everyone left, but there were more men to begin with, so there are more men now.
That said, we have/had some quite notable female users here. Reichu, Kendrix, silvermoonlight, and AWinters come to mind now. I think Kendrix still accesses the site sometimes.

I’ve been lurking for a while here and I finally had the urge to reply.

In my opinion, these old-style forums (while dear to my heart) are somewhat intimidating. This forum is normal and seems very friendly but sometimes you see forums like these and they are filled with interesting characters that push many women away. Personally, I typically lurk on these forums or post as a man.

I also go on tumblr on a lot, there are a lot of women there. Obviously.

As for the rebuilds versus the og show in terms of “feminism”, I most definitely agree that the female characters in the original show are better. I’d say in general that older shows tend to have better female characters, I have some theories as to why but since Eva is Japanese-made I can’t really speak to that. Could just be a consequence of how Shinji focused the rebuilds are in general, and not much more. The rebuilds also just read as much less subversive in general.

I don't know, the fact that the vast majority of men can't talk about Eva without sounding like massive incels might have something to do with it.

On the other hand, I've seen more than one 'femcel' glom onto Asuka as a kind of femcel idol. I don't mean this as a slight to Asuka, as she's my favorite character. But like every Eva character, people will endlessly project their shit.

I think it's as simple as this website being old, & in the olden days technology was considered a "boys hobby".

But I still remember a bunch of prominent female users - Reichu, Joseki, Child-of-Lillith etc...

Personally I don't got much use out of "feminist" tumblr agendaposting - they have the same lens on every show & don't seem much interested in whatever they're analyzing

I've always tended to identify more with similar hobbies or personality types over gender per se. I don't agree that gender ought to be this super important aspect of indentity, I've always felt like it was more a superficial labelling done by society based on which end of a roughly bimodal trait distribution I'm closer to than anything essential or intrinsic.

Though I'm aware that might be a result of relative privilege / not being hit with as much sexixism as others. I was defo hit with some (asshole conservative dad, sexualized bullying, ex who wanted a bangmaid) but I defo got the "weirdo loner" socialization more than being "one of the girls" so im more inclined to identify with other weirdo loners even if they happen to have dicks.
