Not especially, but to give you a counterpoint, I know very intelligent people who would do the same thing, and drank themselves into academic failure. It's not just what you consume, it's how your body can handle what you're putting into it. Misato is so intoxicated she can't walk after a couple of drinks in Episode 15. It's obvious that she wouldn't be able to handle some strenous academic ranting in the condition she was in there. She could barely hold her own in a discussion with Kaji.
I used to throw up and then keep on drinking. I did drugs every single day. I used to have sex with people whose names I didn't even know, sometimes two at once. I've given blow jobs to strangers in nightclub bathrooms, while drunk and on drugs, after throwing up earlier that night.
This is somewhat the norm at the rowdier grad parties I've been to. O-chan, you're treating me like I haven't experience the fun of adolescence. I've done those things to a lesser degree. I'm by no means straight edge. I squeeze in my angsty existential filmfagging in between being a tool at parties, silly.

I ate poorly and never cleaned my room. I was an adolescent camwhore. Oh, and I was obviously bipolar the entire time. I used to take a few shots before breakfast, too.
Well you topped me there. I'm organized (at least I think so) and I'm not especially fond of washing down my frosted mini-wheats with a bottle of jack. Once again, I think this is a particularly subjective argument. Misato takes a sip of beer after breakfast and turns into a different person.
Guess what? Between grade seven and the day I got my bachelors degree, I was on the honour roll every fucking year.
If I can do it, someone as tame as Misato sure as hell can.
Not really. It's obvious that she takes things in what appear to be extremes, and then falls apart after them. Her emotional and physical constitution don't really fit her lifestyle. It really does a nice job fitting in with the facade she puts on as a character to not show that she, like all of us, is a very vulnerable person.
@Oz: that was definitely Anno's favorite course.

ran1, Neon Genesis Evangelion takes place during the apocalypse, and is edited down to presumably the most dramatic bits. Nevertheless, Misato shows up to work and is badass. If you edited my life into a narrative, I'd seem like quite the mess, too. Lots of people acquire degrees with more personal issues than Misato.
And the show itself demonstrates she's capable, time after time. She drinks beer in the morning and then goes to save the world. She kicks ass, investigates shit, and plans huge counter-angel operations. Clearly she is capable of getting a degree.
I will admit that you upset me by your pseudo-support of Allemann's comment, which is in the spirit of his earlier comments on Misato, comments which I quote in this post: http://forum.evageeks.org/viewtopic.php?p=364456#364456
Then you have a laugh at Oz, which makes me wonder what you really think about Allemann's comments.
People are welcome to write me off as over-sensitive, but... this kind of stuff doesn't make me feel good at all. I'm not going to bother posting in this thread anymore, because it is rubbing me the same way as this ten page monster. Sorry for being dramatic, but that's my honest feeling.

^ Don't be offended, Miss O. If you haven't figured it out by now, people tend to do a lot of filling in of NGE's gaps based on their own (inevitably limited) personal experiences, preconceived notions/concepts, etc. Just keep doing what you're doing and you're destined to convince people and even change some minds. You never know just how many are actually reading these threads even if they're not posting.

I appreciated it Yojimbo-kun. I apologize to the thread for my childish "Imma gonna quit this thread!" comment, but I just want to avoid saying cruel things that I don't actually mean. On a selfish note, the guilt that follows is unpleasant. My doctor always reminds me to exercise self-awareness.
So instead of repeating myself over and over in slightly different ways, I think I'll leave this topic alone and instead channel positive energy by drawing. (And calming myself the fuck down with some reefer madness.)
You should see what it's like to have conversations with me in real life. Either we're making out or I'm stabbing you in the eye.
This is where somebody splurges bold red letters all over the place.

I seem to have missed all this drama... oh well.
Back to the topic, I'm going to go with history. Just seems to me like the sort of thing a military strategist really needs to know.

Let's get it back to the topic of origin, please.

The one who save the world are Shinji, Asuka, and Rei, and they are still in high school. What Misato does to assist them has nothing to do with any academic degree, nor her actions imply intellectual talent, or above average sagacity, or both.
My supposition is that the only thing that drove her to NERV is her hatred toward the Angels. If for her position demanded a B.A., she must have gotten the easiest degree as a formality to be a NERV commander. In the Jet Alone episode, we see she can clean up herself if the situation demands it, but empty formality is one thing and actual content the other. In Death and Rebirth she uses a computer to hack the MAGI to find out information, but that is too small to speculate about her alleged degree.
One must also have in mind that she is a fictional character, and fictional characters are never complete replicas of humans; one could say she is an implausible character - given the reality's terms - but even conceived as such, she fulfills her purposes in the plot, and that is what matters.

Oh come on, but it's fun to speculate about them like they were real.
Anyways, i think she got a degree in a field that makes her a jack of all trades. To give her flexibility, which is a pretty esteemed value for someone in the position of tactical commander. Like telecommunications, which has a little bit of everything.
Or, given her character, i wouldn't be surprised that while she was in college with Ritsuko and Kaji, she was just drifting around, and she got her degree after she got into contact with Nerv (i doubt she was made head of Tactical Operations just like that, so it's not impossible that part of getting the job was attaining a degree). Then i would say something like military communications.
Contrary to Allemann, i would cite her haxoring in EoE as evidence pointing towards being educated in an area that involves at least some knowledge of networks and computing.
"Outside of a dog, a book is man's best friend. Inside of a dog, it is too dark to read."
Personally I don't think she was doing any real hacking at all, just browsing files with Kaji's security bypass.

^ Well, i would think that after it was found out that Nerv had a mole amongst their ranks who managed to kidnap the Vice Commander, they would have changed the methods to secure their data to a such a degree that anything Kaji could give to Misato could only be used as a guideline at best. I mean, the various bits of info guarded in the databases of Nerv are some of the most sensitive in the world.
Besides, Misato doing the hax is just plain cooler.

Misato probably majored in whatever drunken college whores typically major in. Probably Education or Communications.

People seem to be under the impression that college is supposed to instill some sort of maturity (beyond signifying the end of typical high school bs,) which seems to imply that college bears anything in common with real life. It does not.
Also, I've known people who were absolute fuck-ups in their personal lives, but could still deliver every damn day with flying colors. You'd be surprised at people's ability to pull themselves together on a daily basis. It's like they just turn off all the addiction, alcoholism, and psychosis. As Kensuke says, count yourself lucky if you actually know one, it means they feel comfortable enough around you to show you a part of themselves they don't let others see. Kensuke's a dumbass.
A few points:
-She is a captain within either the JSSDF or the UN Army (can't remember which)
-She somehow hacked into magi
-she is Nerv's strategic operations director
-she killed three commandos in the span of seconds
-If SEELE was that desperate to keep her close they probably would have just made her a office girl at Nerv instead of Strategic Operations Director!
-Anno is not an expert in military strategy, but guessing from the oohs and aahs we hear throughout the show, Misato is supposed to be some sort of maverick tactical geni--CREED!
All these things suggest that she has had an extensive military education. If I had to guess what she was studying for in college. Well, I have no idea how civilian higher education and military education overlap, I also have no idea how Japanese higher education works except that it is very different from here, but if it was before she entered the military, I would have to say she was probably taking something like communications or education, if she already enrolled in the Japanese ROTC equivalent, whatever the hell she needed to take to achieve her goal.

I'm actually very interested in this, because Anno apparently wanted to characterise Misato as an eternal teenager and mentally infantile.

Re: Misato's Major
I imagine a double major, business administration and communications maybe.
On the other hand, the strategic side of her job might call for more technical background or some kind of military studies.
Good question.
