I do not think that is very common, particularly because NTE borrows so much from the original series, and I feel the viewer loses a lot if they do not understand the meta references to the earlier material. That said, I did watch JO before NGE, years earlier in fact, at a time when I did not even know what Evangelion was. My stepdad rented it on Blu ray, before rentals sadly stopped being a thing.

Well, there was a freeze-frame in one episode that did show that in-universe, everyone is taught in school that First Impact was the creation of the moon. It also states that Second Impact was a meteor, so that's what most people in-setting believe.

Later on it's pretty easy to extrapolate from dialogue here and there that First Impact is when Lilith and Adam land on Earth.

However, that's only for NGE & EoE, I'm not sure what Rebuild's lore answer is. I guess there's only one obvious answer; the arrival of whoever left the Golgotha Object.
