propably reference to Reichu's pet theory of Yui becoming (due to Third Impact) God/Seed of Life herself who is going to act as Seed on some other planet like Lilith and Adam did... And this creation of life requires Longinus no yari (talk about cigar-tunnel metaphors...)

Given some of Ms. Reichu's more recent output, I'm inclined to think it's the latter.

Here's a serious thought for you: maybe Kiel Lorenz (as I like to spell his name) and his cronies believe the world too sick to survive, and are using weird Judeo-Christian mysticism and the trappings of a giant robot anime series to bring this about? It'd certainly fit in with some thoughts I've been having about certain aspects of EVA; maybe SEELE is Mr. Anno's commentary on Aum Shinrikyo, a Japanese cult of personality which was responsible for the sarin gas attack on the Tokyo subway in 1995. I seem to recall having read something about this particular cult, that they used quite a bit of anime terminology in their literature, particularly that of an air-cleaning device from Space Battleship Yamato--does anyone know what it's called?

Hmm... so let me see if I've got this all straight:

Seele knew 2nd impact was going to happen because the DSS say so, and thus triggered it early to minimize the potential damage. With Yui and Gendo apparently in cooperation so far.

Seele then plans to use the LoL and Lilith (or, failing that, unit 01 and the harpies) to achieve apotheosis into a hybrid god-being of all human minds... or maybe just the ones they hand pick?

Gendo and Yui don't like that plan, instead want to just stop the angels and then use the evas to... um... do something? I don't think they originally were going for any kind of 3rd impact in any case.

Yui, possibly after discovering potential difficulties in the control of the EVA still under construction, secretly decides that she will sacrifice herself to complete the EVA and protect Shinji's future. After stopping the angels, she will leave Earth and remain as a sort of eternal monument to humanity... still no 3I involved.

Gendo goes a little apeshit at this, and changes the plan to invoke a different version of 3I using Rei and Adam (no lance in his version) to invoke instrumentality and reunite with Yui. What this will do to anyone else is a complete mystery, but he probably doesn't care anyway.

So what actually happens?

I'm thinking Shinji's desire to save Asuka triggered ATF theatrics (or did Yui want that to happen for some reason?), which in turn brought the lance to put a stop to that shit. Then the eva goes dormant for some reason (again, is this Yui's plan or is it because Shinji has given up?) and the MPEs go back to the original Seele plan. Then GNR shows up and switches gears, taking over the MPEs with the Adam half of her and either doing yet another version of 3I or just going along with the Seele plan. Finally, Shinji changes his mind so GNR lets up and Yui rips her apart when she goes back to her original plan.

So... Yui wins? Somehow I don't think whole mess was actually her plan though, so its a Pyrrhic victory at best.

In any case, the cited bit was strict nitpickery, with nothing else to be read into it. Though I'm sure if you look around you can find me writing about Yui and the Spear more filthily.

Gendo's version involved using Eva as an "Ark" (which Fuyutsuki expands into "Ark that will save humanity from the nothingness of Third Impact"). An ark is a temporary shelter, so probably he would have had Lilith channel the gathered souls into Eva-01 (where he "reunites with Yui"), and afterwards everybody returns to a 'purified' Earth. Whether he and Yui are among the returners, or if the two of them float off together in the Eva -- who knows.

Eva-01 seemed pretty "berserk" from the get-go.

After so much time, The Answers (TM) may have already been thoroughly hashed, rehashed, and concluded, but...I have a couple minutes here so...

One of the things about the Biblical ark is that it saves only a few while the vast mass of humanity is destroyed. I figured Gendo expected to get Rei to direct him into Sho, where Yui already was, so he could have a private unification just with Yui. His ego would let him think he could make Rei do it; his ego also would dissolve within a Yui/Gendo instrumentality.

His goal is to fuse with Yui (literally, beyond the psychological fusing he had with her in life), making himself "complete" as a part of her; and, yes, losing individuality, since his individuality is what makes him feel incomplete to begin with.

In a way it's a form of suicide, perhaps, but in his mind he would be "they" and that is what he imagined as being complete.
