Hey all! My initial plan for the first release was to release the entirety of NGE on Christmas Day as a Christmas gift for you all. Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances, I won't be able to make that date, my current aim is to release in early January when I can give Episode 26 a proper viewing with a decent soundbar and subwoofer so I can see if I need to make any more adjustments.

In the meantime, I'm going to get started working on Death, which is the first of the movies and will naturally take a bit more time to work on. As I'm fairly sure I've stated, the movies will be released when they are completed, and the MEGA folder will update as I progress.

During this time, I will also put up the supplementary materials, which include various episode notes, Changelogs, the main README file, and basic ADV dub comparisons between the OA and DC dubs for 21-24. The README will include cast lists, split up as such (NGE 1-20, NGE 21'-26, Death/EoE, 1.11-3.33), and details on the alternate Definitive Dub options depending on your preferences, as well as a brief overview of the Project.

This is certainly an idea, although I'm not entirely sure what category these edits would fit into on that site. Which do you think best fits this project?

18:49-18:53 - Shinji's line re-timed to better match subs
19:04-19:09 - Misato's line re-timed to better match subs and "this world" replaced with "reality" from earlier in the episode to correct any possible confusion created from ADV's translation
19:15-19:17 - Rei's volume increased slightly
19:18-19:21 - Aoba's line restored to Lee using Perfect DVD
20:14-20:17 - Kaji's line re-timed to better match subs
20:18-20:22 - Gendo's line restored to MacAvery using Perfect DVD
20:37-20:39 - Shinji's line re-timed to better match subs
20:45-20:50 - Shinji's line re-timed to better match subs
20:51-20:56 - Misato's line re-timed to better match subs, removing "No"
20:56-20:58 - Shinji's line re-timed to better match subs, removing "but" afterwards
20:59-21:02 - VSI Pitch-shifted in background as an Echo to retain original effect, turned down in volume, while also using ADV's sound effect with Shinji's line
21:10-21:12 - Shinji's line re-timed to better match subs
21:19-21:32 - Removed ADV Crowd Vocalisations, retaining VSI/Original Ones
21:35-21:36 - Rei's volume increased slightly
21:45-21:46 - Aoba's line restored to Lee using Perfect DVD
21:49-21:50 - Gendo's line restored to MacAvery using Perfect DVD (and by extension, Yui as well, for the same reasons as Hikari above)
21:51 - Removed Shinji Vocalisations
22:02-23:06 - Fly Me to the Moon Restored (as an added Bonus, the standard Definitive Dub release also has Shinji's Rant over the Credits, although a version without the Rant will also be released)

More episodes will go on the MEGA link tomorrow. Taking a short break from that today.

However, you aren't going to go without any Project stuff, so here's my notes on Death(true)2.

Cast:
Manga: Keel, Gendo, Misato, Kaji, Asuka, Ritsuko, Maya, Shinji, Aoba, Fuyutsuki, Rei
VSI: 2000 AD Background Scientists, Young Misato, Young Asuka, Naoko, Kaworu, NERV Workers, Dude talking to Fuyu about Misato, Train Announcer, Kensuke, Toji, Hikari, Yui, Rei I, Nurses, Eva Screams, SEELE, 5.1 Extras
Undecided: Hyuga (Honestly, Burgess (Manga) isn't bad at all in Death, the more memable stuff comes from EoE. But nothing about his performance is outright bad. Cohen (VSI) is still one of the worst parts of the redub imo, but as I mentioned in Episode 6, Pitch-Shifting him fixes a lot of my problems. I don't know if doing this for an entire two films worth of performances is a good idea though. Decisions, decisions...)

Mistranslations (There's a lot to go through...):
Manga (A lot of these ones can be fixed by simply using ADV or Funi/Amazon):
Kaji says "Others" instead of "Myself"
Missing "My god" during Sachiel battle
Background dialogue behind main lines are not subbed, but they are (mostly) dubbed
"Must confront your father and confront yourself" should not be that aggressive
"Maybe it will snow tomorrow" in subs, not in dub script, Tiffany says something a bit different
Missing background dialogue during UNit-01 and 00 sitting in NERV, Shinji watching Gendo speak to Rei
Shinji doesn't complete the "I thought you might be nervous" line
"Operation begins at 00:00 hours" at the start of the timetable, not end, line is still technically there, just in the wrong place
"An N2 Mine!" Same mistranslation from Ritsuko in 19 due to the line not fitting in the space needed
"Oh my god" from Misato when Unit-01 awakens, subs say "Amazing"
"It's aware" same mistranslation from 19 originally. Should be "She's aware"
Missing Nurses
Can't fully tell if the Ritsuko monologue has been cut down or not... Compared to ADV 23 however, "The door of guf is open" is in the right spot!
"Wasn't in Kyoto" from Kaji, Should be "I was in Matsushiro" Intention is definitely still there though
Aaron Krohn pronounces Kaworu wrong, Spike Spencer pronounces it correctly
"It's not one of ours!" From Hyuga, should be "It's an Angel!"
"An Angel!" should be a simpler "What?" from Misato
Missing one of the lines from Central Dogma during the descent to Terminal Dogma
"Kaworu!" from Shinji, instead of "Wait!"
VSI (Again, there's some really odd ones in here):
Asuka doesn't mention "being apart for a while" she straight up says that she won't see Kaji again
"There's nothing..." statement instead of a question
"What do you mean?" instead of "It's what?"
Dude talking to Fuyu doesn't mention Misato's name is Katsuragi
Misato's comment about the sun coming out finally is really awkward and not fully accurate
"All thumbs?" What the hell are these subs sometimes? Should really be something closer to the dubs phrasing
"I wasn't trying to" missing during awkward Rei Apartment encounter
Half the lines during Unit-00's test are cut in half
"Unit-01 acknologed." During Unit-00 N2 attack on Zeruel, Wrong line, subs say something completely different
Shinji doesn't specify he ran away from home during the graveyard scene
"Always looking for patterns" Naoko, nothing like this in the subs, but Manga's subs do give something similar to this line
"How?" instead of "From what?" Dunno what this one was for.
Missing a line in the background from Rei during Ritsuko's monologue
The "Women are alien creatures to us" line missing
"I can't thank you enough" instead of "I'm sorry"

Additions:
Manga (Lots of additional stuff that's not necessarily wrong here):
Seemingly more lines in the 2000AD opening, although it's possible they aren't subbed
"We don't have a spare" from Ritsuko, although it's possible that the subs are simply missing this
"This is dumb" Despite the subs also saying this, this is an addition, just like ADV originally
"Removing secondary lock bolts" not in Subs
"It's been five days now" Misato outside Shinji's room
"Oh my god!" From Shinji once he sees the Reiquarium
"What's going on?" Before Dummy Plug goes nuts
"For god's sake!" During Dummy Plug going nuts
Corny gunshot noise instead of the slap that was supposed to cut between Kaji's death and Asuka finding out, this WILL be fixed!
"Thus Eva Unit-02 is mine!" From Kaworu during the descent
"I don't believe it!"
"The Lilin! Lilith!" from Kaworu, at his revelation
VSI:
"Unbelievable" during Elevator Scene
Phone Machine after Kaji's final goodbye not in subs
"I no longer have readings!" Aoba, not in subs

Additional Notes and Observations:
Manga: The Sorrow of Losing the Object of One's Dependence II (a rendition of FMTTM) is fully audible and not at all removed in any way shape or form on the Blu-Ray. This is only for the Manga Dub. The VSI Dub and Japanese original have it removed as normal.
VSI: Just a General Observation, but it doesn't seem like the lines in the VSI Dub are unique recordings like the original Japanese and Manga Dubs. They seemingly are the same takes used in the show itself. That or the cast is just really good at delivering lines in a pretty much identical way.

So, I've properly started work on Death(true)2 now. Having done the first couple of scenes here are a couple of things that will be done throughout. First off, the ADV dub is quite helpful so even if the Manga dub mistranslates something, the ADV dub can come in handy quite a bit. Case in point, one of Kaji's lines in the scene in bed with Misato is now fixed.

Unlike the ADV dub, however, which did get properly remastered with the updated Renewal 5.1 Audio track, Death and EoE didn't ever get this treatment. So I can't as easily sync up the two. So, only using the VSI Background here, with some possible Manga dub background throughout. However, it's not as likely here. I haven't yet gotten to EoE, but I don't think EoE will be as bad as Death is.

At this point, I haven't done anything with Hyuga yet, so I still don't know which way I'll be going with him. I doubt Pitch-Shifting an entire performance is a good idea, but I'll give it some testing and see what happens. Ironically, Pitching down Daniel MK Cohen's performance to fix some translation errors throughout the series fixed a lot of the problems I had with it, so we'll see what happens.

I've been reading these posts for the past couple of hours. I absolutely floored with both the impressive amount of changes made and how much progress was made in the edit. I can't wait to watch it myself!

I wanted to ask if there will be a version of End of Eva that puts Episodes 25 and 26 into movie, ala the Concurrency Project? Or is that outside the scope of what you're trying to do?

The main focus right now is the TV series and all the movies. I'm sure someone could edit together a Concurrency version of the Definitive Dub for their own personal use, but I likely won't be doing that myself.

Besides, the TV series was the easy part. Now I've got 5 Movies to go through and complete!

Out of curiousity, how much of Kaworu is in the Death movie? Would it be enough for, say, a version of episode 24 with Aaron Krohn's Kaworu?

It's not fully possible. Half of Kaworu's first scene and the actual Angel battle are available with Krohn's Kaworu, and the odd line here or there is also available. But there's a couple key scenes that are not in Death at all, including the big new scene in DC 24, which is only available with either Greg Ayres or Clifford Chapin. So it could certainly be an interesting experiment, but either Ayres or Chapin would have to take care of everything that isn't in Death.

Progress Update Time! It's been a couple months since I gave a proper Project update so here it is!

Death(true)2 is coming along very nicely. It's rush stage is pretty much done. Now I have to go over it with a fine-tooth comb! Once that's done Death will be released and then it's onto End of Evangelion!

There will be a long changelog for each of the films. Lots of little things here and there. I've had to retime the Manga Dub scene by scene for both Death and likely for EoE as well so disregard what I said earlier about only using the VSI background. I'm using both, just that the Manga Dub has been retimed meticulously throughout the entire movie. VSI's 5.1 Extras are also in place just like the TV series.

Unlike ADV's Dub, which did get a remaster for the Platinum release in 5.1 with the updated sound mix from Renewal and as such made it really easy to sync the two dubs up. Manga's Death and EoE never got this treatment. They have 5.1 tracks, but they were created by Manga Entertainment for the DVD release (They also made a 5.1 Japanese Track I believe to, but that's not important for this project). Manga's Death and EoE dubs are based on the sound mix for the original DVD releases of the films, not the updated Renewal sound mixes. Things are slightly off by mere milliseconds throughout the entire movie. This is also likely the reason why the Manga Dubs on the Blu-Ray release (the ones that have them anyway...) go in and out of sync, because the Blus use the updated Renewal transfer. So I have gone through and re-timed the Manga Dub scene by scene (and sometimes halfway through a scene!) to get it to sync up properly with the VSI Dub. I will have to do the same thing for End as well. Thankfully, I'm fairly certain that the Funimation and Amazon Dubs of the Rebuilds will sync up perfectly fine, but we'll see when I get to 1.11.

Unlike Death, I'm going to work on the remaining films in two parts. So I will finish work on 25' and release it for viewing and then work on 26', releasing the entirety of EoE once it's fully done, and Part A then Part B for 1.11-3.33.

Finally, the final cast choices for the Rebuild films are in and are as follows (Naturally this is only 1.11-3.33):
Shinji Ikari: Spike Spencer
Asuka Langley Shikinami: Tiffany Grant
Misato Katsuragi: Allison Keith-Shipp
Rei Ayanami: Amanda Winn-Lee
Mari Illustrious Makinami: Trina Nishimura
Gendo Ikari: John Swasey
Ritsuko Akagi: Colleen Clinkenbeard
Ryoji Kaji: J. Michael Tatum
Kozo Fuyutsuki: Michael Ross
Kensuke Aida: Alejandro Saab
Hikari Horaki: Kimberly Yates
Toji Suzuhara: Justin Cook
Maya Ibuki: Amy Seeley
Makoto Hyuga: Mike McFarland
Shigeru Aoba: Jason C Lee
Keel Lorenz: Tom Booker
Kaworu Nagisa: Jerry Jewell
Sakura Suzuhara: Felecia Angelle
Yui Ikari: Amanda Winn-Lee

The Rebuilds are definitely going to lean Funimation far more than Amazon, with the only Amazon cast choices really being ones who either reprise from ADV/Manga, make logical sense (so like the Original, Yui is voiced by the same actress as Rei, in NGE same as Rei I (Ryan) and in Rebuild same as well, Rei (Amanda)), or are actually a personal preference (Kensuke. It's Kensuke). Hikari is Amazon because her role is so small in 1.11 and 2.22 that I figured I'll just go with Kimberly, although that might change yet, and Toji is Funi because despite being an ADV reprisal: 1. Toji was voiced by Johnny Yong Bosch (VSI) in the TV Series. 2. Brett Weaver's young 14yo Toji voice does not fit at all.

For the first Rebuild movie, who are you using for the military generals in the beginning? Funi, Amazon, or will you keep the series' voices since they have pretty much the exact same lines?

For the first two Rebuilds pretty much all of the Extras will be coming from Funimation's dub. While 3.33 will use the Amazon dub for Extras. TV Series Extras will likely not be used in Rebuild, although there might be a possibility of seeing some depending on the scene. We'll see.

There will likely be some pick and choice between dubs, like how a couple of the Extras in the TV series do come from the ADV dub. (The main military general and the Over the Rainbow Captain are the main ones from ADV that are kept)

On another note SEELE will likely be Funimation, with the exception of Keel who will be Tom Booker reprising from the Amazon Dub.

Hi all!

I want to talk about terminology here. Specifically regarding the Rebuilds. While this isn't really a problem with the original TV series (the terminology is mostly consistent between the two dubs, with the only real exception being Lance vs Spear of Longinus. And with most of the named cast being ADV, Lance naturally wins out here with the exception of SEELE.) Rebuild is another story.

The Funimation and Amazon dubs are not the most consistent in use of terminology. Namely in a few relevant places: once again Lance vs Spear, but also whether Shinji calls Gendo "Dad" or "Father" or whether Shinji calls Rei "Rei" or "Ayanami". I'll note a few other things as we go here but for those main ones:

SPOILER: Show
What Shinji calls Gendo: I'm going to attempt to retain Father as much as possible, however I will have Shinji call Gendo Dad when he's really pissed off. There's a few places where this will happen, such as Ramiel's initial attack, and during the dummy plug sequence and the aftermath of that. Otherwise, it's going to be Father as much as possible.

What Shinji calls Rei: For most of 1.11: Ayanami. This will transition to Rei by the end of the film, and throughout 2.22 Shinji will continue to call her Rei. During 3.33, Shinji will initially call her Rei, but once he realises its not the same Rei he saved, he will revert back to Ayanami.

Lance vs Spear: Lance of Longinus as much as I can. Cassius will still be a Spear though. Kinda curious to see how that will turn out, especially during the 3.33 climax. Funi gives me both Lance and Spear for Longinus due to the Theatrical Dub being available as well. Fuyutsuki I might be able to switch back to Lance by simply merging lines from EoE or Death. We'll see. This one might yet change though.

A couple other smaller notes:

SEELE pronounciation: Attempt to keep Funi as much as possible, again Fuyutsuki can maybe switch back to the original pronounciation using Death or EoE.

Stupid vs Idiot Shinji: Probably going to be Stupid Shinji, thanks to the Funi Theatrical Dub I can generally keep that, although it might switch up depending on the scene.

Four-eyes vs Four-eyed Crony: Not sure yet. Neither are good translations of the original Japanese line. Maybe Four-eyes to avoid the awkward phrasing of Four-eyed Crony.

Naturally, 3.0+1.11, I can't really do much too except fix a couple things and maybe change the lines in the recap portion at the beginning to Funi ones, but that's really the only things I can do.

Hi all.

The release of Evangelion: Death(true)2 has been delayed.

Because I'm an idiot.

So while handling the last Kaworu scenes and going over it with a fine-tooth comb, I accidentally deleted all the 5.1 background audio, and all the Music tracks from the Project file. Then saved the project without even realising the 5.1 and music files were gone until after the save had already happened. What was going to be a release in about two-three days has turned into a release likely in 1-2 weeks. My workload has just pretty much tripled because I didn't check everything was where it should be until I had already hit the save button.

So yeah. I'm a bit annoyed right now. Thankfully none of the actual character dialogue or background files were deleted, which I am very thankful for. But now I gotta go through all that again, so yay.

Expect Death in like 2 weeks I guess. This whole thing that happened today kinda killed some of my enthusiasm for working on this project (tbf, Death is not the most exciting thing to be working on) and I was (and still am in some ways) very excited to get to work on EoE, but that's had to be pushed back a touch.

I apologise for the delay, but I want this to be as good as possible.

See y'all in 2 weeks I guess.
