Mediocre disc sales, 140k in the first week, versus 800k and 600k for 2.0 and 3.0. Of course, this is probably largely because of the decline in physical media, since Shin did well in theaters and particularly streaming.

I wonder if 2.0 and 3.0 were available for streaming when they're Blu-Rays/DVDs came out...

∆ Definitely not.
And I bet Amazon had to pay big money to get Shin on Prime.

No. They weren't available in streaming. 3.0+1.0 being more than a year in streaming likely affected the Blu-Rays/DVDs sales.

Also, as it was mentioned, the physical media has suffered has suffered a decline in sales for the last years.

That, and also the perfecting of web-rip and blu ray-rip technologies means that even the exclusive bonus content that usually justify buying a physical support can be nearly immediately found. (-46h and the dubbed version of -120min was already up in the web a few hours after people received the first BR)

JJK0 sold 150k in the first week so it's just the market being massively down compared to 13-10 years ago.

That's a shame, really. Streaming is fine, but nothing beats physical media. Whichever way you slice it, Blu-ray offers the best visual and audio quality. Also, the presentation and extras make it worth it just for existing.
It's nice to have something that will be yours forever, as long as you hold onto it. But I think convenience and price overshadow all these benefits for some people...

Also, I'm amazed at how a film like HA was able to move so many copies.
Just sit here and waste your precious time. When you want to do something, don't do it right away. Don't do it when you can. Read my posts instead. It's the only way to live a life without regrets.

Aren't blu-ray also very expensive in Japan? That might be a factor of why it didn't sold that much.

Shin Ultraman is getting a US Blu-ray release next week; is there still no idea when we're getting Shin Eva on Blu-ray?

GKIDS sent out a Tweet back in December stating that they're releasing Shin Eva on Blu-ray in 2023. Given that it's only been less than 4 months since the March 8th JP release, sometime in Q4 2023 would be a logical window for it to happen.

Got my Collector's Edition preorder in.

It's worth noting the Collector's Edition comes with a poster too.

I forget, did GKIDS ever officially announce whether they were doing the rest of the series?

Not yet, Gkids still only has TUAT for now. It's just a matter of time though.

Pre-ordered the regular edition. I (mostly) enjoyed Thrice Upon a Time, but there's a premium on space in my anime drawers and the collectors edition seems like it'll be thicker. I don't have a 4K player, anyway.

I wonder what English dub will be on it. I'm assuming the one from Amazon, since I doubt GKids sprung for a brand new one.

The new dubbing created for cinema screening by Dynit will be used (different from the one present on amazon prime)

that only one big problem..... there is currently no 4k version planned :irked:

However, this edition, like the previous ones, will follow as much as possible the style similar to the Japanese one, a very clean case with the "wraparound" style obi with specification and info (removabile)

here the photos of the Italian limited editions of the previous films (dvd up, bluray down, click for details)

Yeah, the stylization of the spine makes me feel like they were aiming for it to look nice and uniform next to the other (yet to be released) ones.

I subscribed to the evageeks main page RSS feed, and signed up for the Gkids shin-eva email notification. Somehow that gkids email went to my junk folder, and I didn't see any updates on the feed. Almost missed out on this pre-order..

Anyways, now that I have pre-ordered, looking forward to the release!
