So I've been wanting to create this topic for quite a while at this point. Since October, I believe.
I noticed something. We all know that What If is heavily inspired by Expansion of Blockade. Likewise, Voyage takes some inspiration from Komm, Süsser Tod. It's not that noticeable if you don't have a good ear for this sort of thing. That said, it's clearly there. As Derantor put it in a conversation we had on Discord in December: "Ah, yeah, the background strings are sampled, but sped up. At roughly double speed."; "And yeah, it's there for two or four bars ten seconds or so, disappears, and then reappears near the end. The ... harp, or something does the same chromatic ascending and descending scales, mirroring the movement in between and afterwards." I then pointed out that I could hear something like a violin in both songs and he replied: "Yeah, it's a violin. And all that's going on is that the pitch moves up and down, and that they used the same soundbit in both songs."
Pretty cool, right? What bugs me about it is this: The original Instrumentality sequence (EOE) "started" with Komm, Süsser Tod and "ended" with Expansion of Blockage. It actually stretched a little longer (up until Opening of a Dream). However, Shinji's epiphany was marked by Expansion of Blockage (it was when he decided to live in the real world and all). In Shin Evangelion, the Instrumentality sequence started with What if? and ended with Voyager.
What if? (influenced by Expansion of Blockage) plays during the beginning of Instrumentality. Voyager (influenced by Koom, Süsser Tod) plays at the end of it. Why? Why things are "twisted" this time around?

Yes, “what if?” is a brand new song, and according to Sagisu, it was written at the same time as “hand of fate”.
“Like a miracle, life starts with the pain / Forever this will be” — “Heroes of Sand” by Angra.
“É porque nós gostamos de você. Obrigada por conversar comigo. Vem, me dá a sua mão para andarmos juntos.” — Rei to Shinji (Portuguese dub).

Update: YouTube user Fractured/Image caught my attention when he noticed that Hand of Fate was made using the chord progressions of Everything You've Ever Dreamed.
Compare the two:
