Your entertainment wishlist?

Yeah. You read right. This is for everything that doesn't have anything to do with Eva.

If you think female characters are the worst of Michael Crichton's problems, wait until you read State of Fear.

I have yet to read that, though I remember reading Lost World and cringing at Sarah Harding description, as everyone assumes the character is a lesbian as she's butch and has short hair, like you can tell Crichton did zero research in to women who research in to animals. As they look nothing like this in real life if you spend any time watching nature documentaries, and it felt to me like he was leaning on a lazy stereotype.

Granted, she's more badass in the book, but this was the last of his books that I ever read, and I have no desire to re-read them. Like, it would not shock me if he has other worse issues in later novels or earlier novels...

Saga comics finally coming back out after that long hiatus.

SPOILER: Show
The story is crazy as ever but I really hope they chill out a bit with the character deaths. Part of me really hoped Marko survived that stab through the chest (perhaps through some spell)

From the past few years...

Wishes that came true!
- Alison Keith returns for the dub of Eva 3.0+1.0 (this is biblically imperative) (Came True!)

- Chernobyl's Johan Renck returns to direct Craig Mazin's next project. (Came True!, they will be working on the tv series adaptation of The Last of Us)

- Godzilla vs Kong is critically received notably better then KOM. (Came True!, mixed on such because I feel it's tangibly more flawed than kotm)

- Gareth Edwards gets a new major directorial gig soon (I am worried he has been blacklisted after disagreements with Disney about Rogue One) (Came True!, will direct a sci-fi movie called The Creator with John David Washington)

- Antje Traue nude scenes in King of Ravens (Came True!,)
- Katee Sackhoff nude scenes in Another Life S1 & S2 (Came True!, in both seasons)

- She-Hulk returns to normal in the comics. Jason Aaron has made her into a even more dumbed down version of Bruce/Hulk with even more intense self loathing. Absolutely no one likes the changes, not normies, not fans of classic Jen, not cheesecake fans, not feminist. NO ONE. (Came True! & she is getting a new series with a decent creative team. EDIT - 1st issue was good!)

SPOILER: Show

Wishes that did not!
- Fox does official short films for Predator like they recently did for Alien. (Unlikely for anything like that to happen now that Disney owns the rights to Alien & Predator)

- Swamp Thing is picked up by HBO as has been rumored. (nothing as of 2022)

- The upcoming 4K release of Halloween 5 has been confirmed to include (as special features) the alternate Dr Death opening + gore cut from the film. My wish is that the national guard/swat team massacre + Sheriff Meeker's death are included among the cut gore (meeker is my favorite character from the Halloween series after Loomis & Jamie). We have this pic proving his death was filmed... (Nope!)

Details on the swat massacre from a recent interview with Don Shanks.
SPOILER: Show
Oh, I took out Haddonfield’s S.W.A.T. team. I killed a whole bunch of people. (The massacre) took place at the hospital, the place where Danielle’s character left from. If you remember, the police get on the radio (in the film) and they say, ‘He’s here,’ and the whole S.W.A.T. team (which is stationed) at the Myers house gets in their cars and they drive off, and there’s one guy left up (in the house) with Danielle in the bedroom, and then there’s one guy down below in a police car (on the street), and over the radio he hears people screaming. So that’s where the (S.W.A.T. massacre) scene was to be – just before that."
Mostly second unit, with Don Pike directing instead of Dominique (Othenin-Girard). So we were doing it fast. ... There’s one guy, and I mean they show it, when they’re taking out one of the bodies, whose head is twisted around. They put the wardrobe on him backwards, and he looks like his head’s been twisted one hundred and eighty degrees. And another, the direction was, ‘Take an M16 rifle, and you’re just walking through these guys and killing them.’ There’s Donre Samson, a big tall black guy that I kill, and another one, I put the M16 through his head, and another guy, I break his neck and stomp on him, you know. The whole idea was that you’d hear everybody screaming (over the radio) when he’s killing everybody. So we did all these really quick shots. You know: ‘Pick this guy up. Knock this guy down. Stab this guy.’

Consolidating other old wishes that are still in play...

- A James Bond tv series with Brosnan returning.

- Brad Bird (iron giant, mission impossible 4) gets a new big budget live action project after Tomorrowland was a failure.

- Jessica Chastain (interstellar) works with Christoper Nolan again.

- Some or all of the old Godzilla & Gamera mangas are released in English. I have the following for the artwork but can't read it. :um:
Love this Barugon redesign.

Fede Alvarez (don't breath, evil dead remake, the girl in the spider's web) who is currently set to do a Alien movie for Hulu has had his name attached to a bunch of different projects over the years.

Álvarez was attached to direct a live-action adaptation of the video game Dante's Inferno for Universal Pictures in September 2013, however no further updates have been provided since the announcement.[13] In May 2016, Álvarez was attached to direct an adaptation of Monsterpocalypse for Warner Bros.[14] In October 2016, Álvarez was brought on to direct an adaptation of Incognito for Sony Pictures, based on a script by Daniel Casey.[15] Álvarez was considered to replace Ben Affleck as director for The Batman.[16]

On April 13, 2017, Álvarez was confirmed to direct and co-write a spin-off to Labyrinth with Nicole Perlman and Jay Basu.[17] However, in April 2020, Álvarez announced that he had stepped down as director.[18]

I hope the Dante's Inferno & Monsterpocalypse adaptations still end up happening.

I have mentioned before wanting more fighter jet/air warfare movies. I honestly would like to see a film about the aerial part of the Iran-Iraq war, vast unique assortment of aircraft used. Some of that history...

SPOILER: Show
The Iraqi Air Force launched surprise air strikes on ten Iranian airfields with the objective of destroying the Iranian Air Force.[86] The attack failed to damage the Iranian Air Force significantly; it damaged some of Iran's airbase infrastructure, but failed to destroy a significant number of aircraft. The Iraqi Air Force was only able to strike in depth with a few MiG-23BN, Tu-22, and Su-20 aircraft,[112] and Iran had built hardened aircraft shelters where most of its combat aircraft were stored.

...

Though the Iraqi air invasion surprised the Iranians, the Iranian air force retaliated the day after with a large-scale attack against Iraqi air bases and infrastructure in Operation Kaman 99. Groups of F-4 Phantom and F-5 Tiger fighter jets attacked targets throughout Iraq, such as oil facilities, dams, petrochemical plants, and oil refineries, and included Mosul Airbase, Baghdad, and the Kirkuk oil refinery. Iraq was taken by surprise at the strength of the retaliation, which caused the Iraqis heavy losses and economic disruption, but the Iranians took heavy losses as well as losing many aircraft and aircrews to Iraqi air defenses.
Iranian Army Aviation's AH-1 Cobra helicopter gunships began attacks on the advancing Iraqi divisions, along with F-4 Phantoms armed with AGM-65 Maverick missiles;[83] they destroyed numerous armoured vehicles and impeded the Iraqi advance, though not completely halting it.[115][116] Meanwhile, Iraqi air attacks on Iran were repelled by Iran's F-14A Tomcat interceptor fighter jets, using AIM-54A Phoenix missiles, which downed a dozen of Iraq's Soviet-built fighters in the first two days of battle.

...

On 30 September, Iran's air force launched Operation Scorch Sword, striking and badly damaging the nearly-complete Osirak Nuclear Reactor near Baghdad.[86] By 1 October, Baghdad had been subjected to eight air attacks.[86]: 29  In response, Iraq launched aerial strikes against Iranian targets.[86][115]

...

The Iraqi Air Force, badly damaged by the Iranians, was moved to the H-3 Airbase in Western Iraq, near the Jordanian border and away from Iran. However, on 3 April 1981, the Iranian air force used eight F-4 Phantom fighter bombers, four F-14 Tomcats, three Boeing 707 refuelling tankers, and one Boeing 747 command plane to launch a surprise attack on H3, destroying 27–50 Iraqi fighter jets and bombers.[132]

Despite the successful H-3 airbase attack (in addition to other air attacks), the Iranian Air Force was forced to cancel its successful 180-day air offensive. In addition, they abandoned their attempted control of Iranian airspace. They had been seriously weakened by sanctions and pre-war purges and further damaged by a fresh purge after the impeachment crisis of President Banisadr.[133] The Iranian Air Force could not survive further attrition, and decided to limit their losses, abandoning efforts to control Iranian airspace. The Iranian air force would henceforth fight on the defensive, trying to deter the Iraqis rather than engaging them. While throughout 1981–1982 the Iraqi air force would remain weak, within the next few years they would rearm and expand again, and begin to regain the strategic initiative.[134]

...

Operation Undeniable Victory: Iraqi tanks came under attack by 95 Iranian F-4 Phantom and F-5 Tiger fighter jets, destroying much of the division.

...

Operation Ramadan (First Battle of Basra): However, the attacks came to a halt and the Iranians turned to defensive measures. Seeing this, Iraq used their Mi-25 helicopters, along with Gazelle helicopters armed with Euromissile HOT, against columns of Iranian mechanised infantry and tanks. These "hunter-killer" teams of helicopters, which had been formed with the help of East German advisors, proved to be very costly for the Iranians. Aerial dogfights occurred between Iraqi MiGs and Iranian F-4 Phantoms.[155]

...

War of the Cities: Meanwhile, Iraq's air force also began carrying out strategic bombing raids against Iranian cities. While Iraq had launched numerous attacks with aircraft and missiles against border cities from the beginning of the war and sporadic raids on Iran's main cities, this was the first systematic strategic bombing that Iraq carried out during the war. This would become known as the "War of the Cities". With the help of the USSR and the west, Iraq's air force had been rebuilt and expanded.[134] Meanwhile, Iran, due to sanctions and lack of spare parts, had heavily curtailed its air force operations. Iraq used Tu-22 Blinder and Tu-16 Badger strategic bombers to carry out long-range high-speed raids on Iranian cities, including Tehran. Fighter-bombers such as the Mig-25 Foxbat and Su-22 Fitter were used against smaller or shorter range targets, as well as escorting the strategic bombers.[134] Civilian and industrial targets were hit by the raids,[178] and each successful raid inflicted economic damage from regular strategic bombing.[134]

In response, the Iranians deployed their F-4 Phantoms to combat the Iraqis, and eventually they deployed F-14s as well. By 1986, Iran also expanded their air defense network heavily to relieve the pressure on the air force. By later in the war, Iraqi raids primarily consisted of indiscriminate missile attacks[citation needed]while air attacks were used only on fewer, more important targets.[179] Starting in 1987, Saddam also ordered several chemical attacks on civilian targets in Iran, such as the town of Sardasht.[180]

...

1987: With the stalemate on land, the air/tanker war began to play an increasingly major role in the conflict.[186] The Iranian air force had become very small, with only 20 F-4 Phantoms, 20 F-5 Tigers, and 15 F-14 Tomcats in operation, although Iran managed to restore some damaged planes to service. The Iranian Air Force, despite its once sophisticated equipment, lacked enough equipment and personnel to sustain the war of attrition that had developed, and was unable to lead an outright onslaught against Iraq.[168] The Iraqi Air Force, however, had originally lacked modern equipment and experienced pilots, but after pleas from Iraqi military leaders, Saddam decreased political influence on everyday operations and left the fighting to his combatants. The Soviets began delivering more advanced aircraft and weapons to Iraq, while the French improved training for flight crews and technical personnel and continually introduced new methods for countering Iranian weapons and tactics.[168] Iranian ground air defense still shot down many Iraqi aircraft.[83][168]

The main Iraqi air effort had shifted to the destruction of Iranian war-fighting capability (primarily Persian Gulf oil fields, tankers, and Kharg Island), and starting in late 1986, the Iraqi Air Force began a comprehensive campaign against the Iranian economic infrastructure.[168] By late 1987, the Iraqi Air Force could count on direct American support for conducting long-range operations against Iranian infrastructural targets and oil installations deep in the Persian Gulf. U.S. Navy ships tracked and reported movements of Iranian shipping and defences. In the massive Iraqi air strike against Kharg Island, flown on 18 March 1988, the Iraqis destroyed two supertankers but lost five aircraft to Iranian F-14 Tomcats, including two Tupolev Tu-22Bs and one Mikoyan MiG-25RB.[168] The U.S. Navy was now becoming more involved in the fight in the Persian Gulf, launching Operations Earnest Will and Prime Chance against the Iranians.[citation needed]

That said it would be a even harder sell than normal airforce movies already are as America isn't directly involved until near the end and both countries are the bad guys from a western audience perspective :um: That said Netflix has been putting out various foreign war movies lately so who knows.

I have a few things on my wishlist, though whether or not any of these will come true is up for interpretation.

1. An anime adaptation of the novel King of Kings: GaoGaiGar vs Betterman.

2. That the Transformers comics under Image will actually be good once it acquires the rights to them from IDW

3. That a new Evangelion anime will someday be released, regardless of if it is a spin-off, remake, or continuation of something else.

4. A new mecha series being released that isn’t a sequel to an already established one.

4 has happened plenty of times in the past year alone. Original mecha properties pop up all over the place if you look for them.
Some of the good ones recently - 86, Sakugan, Megaton Musashi, Back Arrow are all completely original, from the past two years and were pretty good

I should take a look at those then.

Thanks for the suggestions!

Speaking of which, another thing on my "entertainment wish list" is a successful American mecha franchise. And I don't mean something like Transformers--I mean a series where the robots are piloted or otherwise controlled by humans. So far there have been only a handful of mainstream American mecha works, none which can be called truly successful. The first, as I recall, was Exosquad, and then there was Megas XLR, Titan Maximum, Sym-Bionic Titan, and the Pacific Rim.

One day, I'd like to see an American mecha franchise make it as big as Gundam or Evangelion.
Life can seem a challenge. Life can seem impossible. It's never easy when so much is on the line.
