No. The Maeda sisters make their cameo just before the final battle. Mothra passes over a crowd on her way to fight Godzilla and there's a brief pause on the actresses. It's meant to be an allusion to the Shobijin.

I see, thanks. ^_^ Aki Maeda performed her protagonist part in the first Battle Royale that you instantly root for her and Tatsuya Fujiwara as her love interest I find BR interesting for the memorable characters that bring life and frustration in particular to the Maedas such as Kou Shibasaki, Masanobu Ando, Taro Yamamoto, and of course who course who could forget Chiaki Kuriyama with her apparel which was extended in Kill Bill.

RIP Akira, hope you get to reunite with Momoko Kochi and Akihiko Hirata (Emiko and Dr. Serisawa) in a better place.

News!!!

Toho is apparently working on a period piece Kaiju film set from 1945 to 1947 and filming started a few days ago.
Rumors say people involved with the project are calling it "Godzilla Zero".

It will be directed by Takashi Yamazaki whose credits include...
- Returner (2002) time travel from apocalyptic future + aliens + martial arts + gangsters + Matrix influence. Been a long time since I watched it but I liked it a lot when I originally watched - https://youtu.be/tu5GJffI7s4
- Space Battleship Yamato (2010)
- The 2 live action Parasyte films
- The Great War of Archimedes (2019), historical film about the construction of the battleship Yamato.
- Lupin III: The First (2019)
- The 3 Always: Sunset on Third Street films, the 2nd of which had a CGI cameo by Godzilla.

...

Godzilla vs Kong sequel is confirmed to film in Australia later this year. A few sites reported it is actually a GVK rematch movie which I honestly hope is not the case.

I hope this is like an apology film for the one we got, as that's the only reason I can think of that they'd go for a sequel, in that they knew they screwed up and want to put it right.

Awesome, another Toho movie :w00t:

From what I've heard it's not Godzilla Vs Kong 2 but just the next film in the MonsterVerse and is more of a solo KONG film. Makes sense since at least as far the US is concerned King Kong is a much bigger draw for audiences than Godzilla.

Also the rules of Toho/Legendary's original contract for the MonsterVerse, while lucrative in the short run for Toho, restricted Toho from making live action Godzilla films while the four-film MonsterVerse played out. Neither company wanted separate live-action Godzilla continuities running at the same time. Shin Godzilla snuck through and got to be made because the film, in some form, was already in production at Toho when the contract was signed. This was all put in place likely before Hideaki Anno even signed onto the film and Shin was just "A New Godzilla" project. The MonsterVerse contract is definitely why development on a Shin Godzilla 2 never happened, I think Shinji Higuchi confirmed that a few years ago.
The MonsterVerse contract preventing Toho from making live action Godzilla movies while the MonsterVerse played out is why Toho went all-in on animated Godzilla the past few years.

That contract is over after Godzilla Vs. Kong. It would have to be renewed and if Toho really is back to making to live-action Godzilla - I'm guessing an announcement will be made on April 1st when the new fiscal year starts in Japan and companies will announce their big new projects - I imagine that takes live action Godzilla FILMS off the market for the MonsterVerse for a while.

If I had to guess that's what the MonsterVerse AppleTV+ TV show Monarch is about. Toho will make a series of live action Godzilla films. Kong will be the fact of the MonsterVerse films and Godzilla will be allowed to feature heavily in the Monarch show because it's a high-budget streaming service and falls into a different category than a live action film.

I hope we get more Monsterverse Godzilla no matter how it works out just because I love that iteration of the character. Godzilla as a big grumpy grump is hilarious.

I'm just hoping suitmation doesn't die out. The new developments in technology should be used to enhance the art, not replace it. Shin Godzilla was a special exception because their Godzilla was too weird to properly depict with a suit, but they still did their damndest to make him look conventional.

Toho pls gib me toku Godzilla.

I agree with this as I think Hollywood getting rid of animatronic/puppets and stop-motion in favour of CGI was a real bad move love term. As both mediums really have charm and can really work in the right setting, as Ghostbusters after life proved, as did The Dark Crystal age of resistance series.

So Toho should never throw away the suit, as the suite as you say i's what makes it great, and Shin was a special case. ^_^

Toho is keeping suit work alive with short films as they recently released a Godzilla vs Hedorah short (meant to be their fight from final wars that was over in a micro second in the actual film) - https://youtu.be/pSgeUsVj2J4 (the actual short has been removed now sadly)

And apparently they are currently crowdfunding the creation of a showa style Gigan suit for a another short film.

I think puppetry, stop motion, etc will hang around as artistic choices and eventually gain popularity again as audiences and artists get tired of the supposed realism of CGI.

The Lake a new monster movie from Thailand with heavy use of quality looking practical effects/animatronics.

I know I am gonna get a lot of negative vibes saying this but watching the Roland Emmerich version of Godzilla in 1998 was my first introduction to the creature and I still carry with me a certain attachment to that flick all the way.

Dan Stevens (legion, the guest) will star in the GVK sequel.

New anime KJ File - https://www.animegeek.com/kj-file-anime ... r-designs/
Don't particularly care for the designs but still intrigued.

I straight up see it as a good monster movie, just not a good G adaptation. Amazing score, solid military porn (love the submarine battle), they are fully successul IMO in making "zilla" a sympathetic very animalistic monster. His opening attack on NYC is very well done. It has nothing as glaringly stupid as the computer virus solution in Independence Day from the same director. The CGI for the adult holds up fairly well (the babies cgI is really bad tho), Broderick is meek but a likable enough lead.

The follow up animated series corrected most of it's genuine mistakes and is absolutely fantastic. Made Nick much more of a leader, had the science team of the film be a genuine team with added members, made "zilla" much more powerful and aggressive and had a ton of great original villain monsters.

The biggest loss related to the 98 movie is we will never get the glorious looking Stan Winston Godzilla project that morphed into it.

After watching GINO in theaters in 1998, I started collecting Showa era tapes that were with the hideous English dubs. I could only get through the 1956 version of the first Japanese film which "starred" Raymond Burr. When the Millenium era came, the Godzilla 2000 was okay but it wasn't until the one that came after it Godzilla vs. Megaguirus that definitely had me in one of those "TAKE MY MONEY!" feelings with Godzilla as a whole.

Was it ever explained how at least behind the scenes why the psychic character of Miki Saegusa (portrayed by Megumi Odaka) didn't get to make at least one more appearance in the Millenium movies? If it was her decision to retire then I completely understand.

Different continuity, her universe wrapped up with G vs Destroyah.
