People have brought up that Disney has a woman writing problem, in general, in that they tend to lean heavily in to the 90s prototype used for Buffy Xena but this prototype is very outdated and works with one gender putting down the other down than branding it as empowerment when it's not. It stems from lazy writers who just don't want to go the distance, or the only empowerment they remember is the 90s, so they write this even though the better shows and TV in media of the last decade lean away from this model and write full female characters with flaws and who can show vulnerability and are not about putting men down.

Doctor Strange - In the Multiverse of Madness trailer!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Sq4FGWvHXA

Looks great, I am a little concerned about it being overcrowded with the introduction of America Chavez + Wanda likely going villainous + Alternate Dr Stranges but regardless this is the MCU project I am most excited for.

View Original PostNatalie the Cat wrote:I saw Shang Chi. Easily one of the best Marvel movies.

Agreed.

Wenwu is probably the best MCU villain for me and I say that as a fan of comic Mandarin (at least some of the 90s onward takes on the character), I do wish they delved a bit more into the history of the Ten Rings.

My dream MCU film would be Iron Man 4 set between the snaps or between CW/IW with Tony discovering & warring with Wenwu until a stalemate occurs with Tony unable or unwilling to reveal Wenwu to the world (perhaps wenwu is able to convince tony that the only thing he cares about now is resurrecting his wife), maybe have True Detective style flashbacks of Howard Stark & Agent Carter encountering Wenwu in the late 40s/50s while on a mission in Mao's China. Downey Jr & Leung playing off each other would be fantastic.

Sorry to hear I thought she seemed pretty likable in the trailers.

Haven't seen much of Buffy/Xena but I was kinda under the opposite impression: that people were nostalgic for those shows specifically because they weren't particularly chest beatingly feminist or abrasive towards men like some glaring modern examples sadly have been. Snarky sure but degrading no.

I agree with female characters periodically showing flaws/vulnerability which the MCU did do well enough with Wanda (and very well with jessica jones if we count the netflix shows), also I loved Jyn in Rogue One but sadly the general consensus seems to be that she was underwritten.

The Doctor Strange sequel is the first time in a long while I've been excited for a superhero movie, largely because of the involvement of Sam Raimi. I just hope his style won't be watered down too much.

Full Moon Knight trailer - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x7Krla_UxRg

Very happy with everything I see here.
khonshu looks perfect.
The mummy like MK suit is unique, the wrappings forming around him reminds me of Tale of the Mummy (1998), I hope that isn't just a hallucination.
Pleased they are taking the mental illness angle dead seriously.

The 1st 2 graphic novels for the 2006 Moon Knight run were among the first comics I ever bought so I have been a fan for a while, need to catch up on more recent MK comics.

Ezra possibly teasing that The Flash will not actually be Affleck's final appearance as Batman despite interviews Ben recently did where he pretty definitively claimed it would be.

The best compromise that can realistically happen at this point is at the end of The Flash, the 2017 Theatrical JL timeline is reformed into the new Flash+Keaton+Batgirl+Supergirl universe while the Snyder Cut universe is explicitly shown to still exist & is not effected.

Speaking of Batgirl, set photos show JK Simmons as Gordon looking a lot younger than he was in JL suggesting that it is perhaps in a prequel time frame?

Batgirl's outfit + it's closest comic inspiration. Not bad but far from ideal for me.

Past live action female Bat suits. The BOP tv show outfit & the CW Batwomen suits were really good. Even the B&R outfit Alicia Silverstone wore was decent & better than the Bat/Robin suits from that film.

During the early to mid period of animated Teen Titans and The Batman, to this day I wonder what happened to Yin after season 2? I know in an episode that takes place in a future where Gotham City is controlled by Mr. Freeze and Oracle contacts Commissioner Yin and Chief Bennett but other than Bennett recovering smoothly from his Clayface infection at Arkham, Yin is nowhere to be seen or heard which kind of ticks me off.

Hannah John Kamen (ghost in antman2) & Joey Soloway have left the Red Sonja movie, MJ Basset is the new director. She did the fairly good WW1 horror movie Deathwatch & Solomon Kane (09) which IMO was fully great and my favorite fantasy movie, if she brings that level of seriousness and grit to the Sonja film I will be very pleased.

Went to see "The Batman" yesterday, for me it was a total homerun.

pluses - very retro I thought, reminded me of the old Detective Comics from the 60's early 70's
Lack of silly gadgets was very refreshing
No people in colorful underwear aimlessly pounding the snot out of each other
Casting was superb....I was very dubious of Pattinson,,,but Emo gloomy Bat is a definite thing!
Plot was interesting, unexpected
Batmobile ....I had to wipe down with a moist towelette with its introduction into the movie
Young/raw Batman, can you tell I loved it?

minuses - only length.....it really bordered on being too long. Fast before hand if you want too make it through without missing anything.
who doesn't want to kick back with Misato and have a few beers?

I saw *The Batman*. I think it's the best Batman movie. I liked the suit, Catwoman is hot, and I dug the car.

I also enjoyed how it was such a departure from every other Batman film, but managed to both evoke the best parts of each of them without feeling derivative and stand on its own without some kind of ham handed (that is, Nolanesque) metacommentary on how smart the movie is. It's just a movie, and a really good movie, about a strange bat man.

Also I think that the movie unintentionally succeeded in an attempt to do what Joker was trying to do. Whereas Joker felt like someone wrote a fusion fanfic of "Taxi Driver, but he's the Joker and there's class animosity", The Batman feels like "David Fincher's Batman" in a loving, caring way that homages its sources without wholesale pastiche.

In other news, I've been slowly working my way through the CW Supergirl series (I never watched the rest of it after loving Season 1) and then digesting it by binge reading Supercorp fanfic until I melt into a big gay puddle. So there's that.

The Flash apparently told Will Smith "hold my beer"! :cringe:

https://comicbookmovie.com/the_flash/th ... nt-a192874

https://comicbookmovie.com/justice_leag ... le-a192917

They really should have fired him after the choking incident and scrapped the biblical clusterfuck of a Flash movie. It's beyond bizarre how far WB/Dc have been willing to go to keep Miller with his unhinged baggage but alienated Cavill at the height of his popularity (Witcher & MI Fallout) just because (as far as we know) he wanted a pay increase on top of firing Depp but not Heard.

First Thor Love & Thunder teaser FINALLY out (3 months from release)
https://youtu.be/tgB1wUcmbbw

It's largely more of the same quasi parody stuff I didn't care for from Ragnarok :um: , really not a fan of hippie style Thor or him giving the throne away to a former slaver. Also Zeus & his Thunderbolt looks horribly horribly cheap. And he isn't in the trailer but apparently Gorr won't have his unique alien design from the comics and will just be a pale scarred Christian Bale with a sword.

That being said, Olympus looks epic, Fem Thor looks very good & this shot is a fantastic faithful tribute to God Butcher / God Bomb (my favorite comic ever after watchmen)

They made such a big deal about this being about female Thor, yet it's not, It's just about Thor again not to mention nothing about Janes Cancer nothing about that journey on getting the hammer. Like I'm really disappointed, granted the full teaser could still prove me wrong, but I know don't hold out any hope.

They never said it would be her film. And in most of the Fem-Thor comics real Thor remains virtually just as much a main character as she is, they would have killed him in Endgame if they didn't intend for him to stick around.

Also I think they are hiding a ton. We got absolutely nothing from the Gorr plotline aside from the above dead snow god & the Olympus related shots. The stuff with hippie style Thor & Guardians is probably just the very beginning of the film.

Werewolf By Night was one of my fave all time books back in the day....and its' going to be a halloween special following Moon Night????
I'm stunned.

Update...: maybe not so excited now...apparently there was a reboot comic in 2020 which has almost nothing in common with the original..
