PETS!!!

Yeah. You read right. This is for everything that doesn't have anything to do with Eva.

By no means all cats reach their twenties, though many do - so yours sounds as if he's doing OK. As for sleeping an awful lot - that's a thing that cats (and dogs) are known for doing.

Well, he isn't losing weight as rapidly as he was before. When I said he's active when he wants to be, that mostly means either when you have a toy for him or when he's just gone to the letterbox. Otherwise he does nothing but sleep.
Life can seem a challenge. Life can seem impossible. It's never easy when so much is on the line.

If your cat is continuing to lose weight, then I'd say it was time for a consultation at the vets, just for reassurance. Older cats can suffer weight loss from an over-active thyroid, which is easily managed, but it could be something more serious.

He's not. He's sort of leveled off in terms of weight loss, and he's actually gained a little over the past week. But he's still very skinny--he weighs about six pounds--and very sleepy and inactive.

Six pounds is very light unless you have a tiny cat -- even our old cat who died earlier in the year after losing a lot of weight hadn't dropped that far. While there are two main circumstances when cats are inactive (hot weather and cold weather), in the case of weight loss coupled with a change in habits, that would be cause for a precautionary check-up at the vet's, just for reassurance's sake. Cats are usually quite inexpensive to run like that, I find, except in the last few months of their life.

My condolences.

It is odd for an old cat not to be traffic-wary. though.

As of the most recent time we weight him, he's 6 lb, 11 oz. That's actually a gain in weight from his previous check, which was 6 lb 7 oz. Our vet knows all about this, and it's been happening for over a year by now.

Thanks, he was quite the cutey, he was a stray cat that kind of stayed at my family's house, eating whatever he could find... It took years until he wasn't scarred of us, and even longer until we were allowed to pet him. I'll miss him, he was a cool guy.

The car must have gone much too fast, 'cause everything that's left of him are bits and pieces. (we live in a residential area, so no car should go that fast) I wouldn't even have recognized him, if it wasn't for our family doggess who refused to go by the pile of goo and meat and started barking at it (very unusual for her).
Then I put 2+2 together.

On a much happier note, we had two new arrivals yesterday

Image

Pip, the boy, is in front, his much smaller sister Flo is at the back.

They're still in the stage of darting from one place of concealment to the next, though last night Pip was content to be brushed and then lounge on the shelf by the keyboard.

Image

Edit -- Flo steps out, just a little.

Pip? I'm honored you'd name a cat after what my friends call me.

My Dog...
SPOILER: Show
Image

was doing poorly a week or so ago (inexorably twisting sharply to one side in her sleep which screws up her walking for hours)...
SPOILER: Show
Image

but seems to be back to normal now. She is 16 years old & has had 3-ish major downturns since October 2020 that each lasted just about a week in which she could not walk virtually at all but after each time she seems to fully recover. After she recovered from the second incident (in march-ish) she has been walking around more & farther than she has since May of last year (she had completely stopped going in the larger second section of our back yard but now is back to doing so daily), thank god!
