So yeah, long time no see and you won't hear from me again: the ban hammer will swing again just because I'm stepping on a nerve by defending Xard.

Just for clarification to other users, as Oz said, he'll be gone for good (there is a dedicated Departure thread for goodbyes, but who cares at this point // also why does he care about getting banned when he has no interest of posting? Schizo, much?)
I didn't even know about this massive wave of banning, all I know is that Reichu was apparently getting increasingly paranoid that "something bad might happen", which, considering what a bunch of crying man children the Xard support group is composed of, might not have been without reason (imagine being so butthurt for being told that it's against the rules to post a homophobe diatribe and refuse to actually engage with people who try to talk it out and instead send a cavalcade of what I imagine must be deranged incels to cry about it. Like, sheesh go outside or something. srsly, big yikes.) However, Reichu severely overreacted due to what I assume must have been the accumulation of years and years of (perceived?) bullying. She snapped against me in a passive aggressive manner as well, after daring to say something that wasn't of her opinion.

tl,dr. both sides seem to dole out severe mental issues and this forum apparently is the perfect battle ground for it. I for one have no patience for such childish behavior on a forum about a Japanese cartoon from the 90s.

I always tried to engage in the mantra of "don't be an asshole" But when one side starts spouting far-right dehumanizing talking points and cries when they get deplatformed for it, while the other side thinks it can solve the problem by banning away everything they perceive as "evil", I really struggle to find empathy for either side. This is like a microcosmic version of the massive retardation that is contemporary American Politics.

I don't know the forum history as well as you do, but I'd say that full-on retardation mode would be hit when the people on either side just refuse to even attempt to talk with others and highly scream about how their way is the only right way and have given up on even the pretense of listening to the other side's points and are also constantly hypocritical...so would you say that's what happened? Because to me it seems like people are still kind of at least attempting to talk with each other and we haven't reached that aforementioned point yet.

Well, to be fair, I think Reichu was temp banned for a short time for that type of behavior as well at roughly the same time as Xard's article post? Neither she nor Xard were "permabanned," though, so it's not like anything was dealt unfairly in either direction. Also, I seem to remember Xard being a staff member here at one point. (Complete with the fancy blue color to his name and everything!) Clearly this forum's staff at the time thought enough of Xard's conduct prior to the temp ban as being suitable enough to be trusted as a fellow staff member. This isn't a case of the staff going "There are people on this forum who disagree with us, so let's ban them!" Rather, both sides of the aisle, even among staff members, did have to take a breather for their own respective behaviors, not their differing opinions.

It's just that this type of behavior was kinda the norm for a bit on this forum, and people just kinda showed up to watch the fights. Again, I do not want to return to that. I much appreciate how the forum is doing now. I do wish it were more active than it is now, and that's partially on me for not posting as much about film in the Off Topic subform as I used to, but I think most of the Eva-related activity will finally occur once Shin Eva finally is released and we're all debating it's quality for 3 whole 100-page threads for a solid 6 months or something.

Well, in that case, this forum is (and was) in a better place than Robersora and Oz were making it out to be. Of course, Serious Discussion isn't active anymore either and that seems to be where the vast majority of these kinds of problems originated from and from what I understand, both Reichu and Xard still engaged in some not-that-nice behavior that can be constructed as being similar to the ''absolutely sure in themselves'' part of the equation...though I don't want to act like being sure of oneself is necessarily a bad thing and internet discussions about heated topics with different opinions being discussed tend to end badly anyways and this still ended with all sides having a lot more dignity and understanding of others than usually common-again from what I understand. (I really need to look up some of the forum history here).
Shin Eva finally is released and we're all debating it's quality for 3 whole 100-page threads for a solid 6 months or something.

Mmm, yes, looking forward to that.

You haven't read the behind the scenes post in which most of the drama I laid out happened. And it's really bad. It's a lot of misunderstanding in bad faith, no trust in the other side, petty passive-aggressiveness galore... it's like a stereotypical American High School you know from the movies with the added bonus of one side not understanding that nobody cares or likes fascist incels, while the other side has very low mental fortitude.

I am really, really fed up with this bullshit drama, which is why I want everyone to know in the hopes of shaming them into behaving like grown-ups.

dito, and it was all pretty contained in the backdoor until the cavalcade of retarded incel-trolls decided to stir drama up to the point that Reichu totally lost her marbles.

Don't you find it a bit odd that this discussion was brought up over the frowning of using certain sex slurs, only for you to use certain sex slurs which may not even be accurate at all?
Please just call me Ian, "TheFrisky" is more of a title.

I mean yeah, but I never proposed for censoring no-no words and despite that these assholes pulled me into the drama, so I will use every slur I can find to describe these losers.
Like I really tried defusing the situation, yet they thought it appropriate to start attacking me with petty claims. I have no tolerance for people who bite the the hand who tried to help them. Maybe because I'm gay and Xard's a known homophobe ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Well, this felt nice, airing all my frustrations. I originally just wanted to make one statement, lmao.

New Rules for Discussion

Postby UrsusArctos » Sun Jul 25, 2021 12:45 pm

Hi, everyone. I'm here to announce that we are working on a new set of rules for the discussion subfora. Unfortunately, some users have constantly been violating the site's principle (Enjoy Evangelion and let others enjoy Evangelion) and the Zeroth Rule (Don't be a Jerk). Their poor argumentative strategies have caused good discussions to be pushed aside and some people have expressed feelings of being unhappy or unwelcome as a result. Keep in mind that we've lost long-standing, high-quality posters for this in the past. As such, we are currently devising ways to encourage pleasant, mature, and productive arguments.

Don't get us wrong. We are not trying to shut discussions down; quite the contrary! We want all kinds of threads to be created here on Evageeks! That said, one topic shouldn't harm the other.

Please note that these rules are applicable ONLY for the three subforums under "Evangelion Discussion and Theory" - TV Series + EoE discussion, Rebuild of Evangelion Discussion (plus its own 3.0 + 1.0 subforum) and Everything Else Evangelion. They apply in addition to the general Forum Rules and Guidelines.

Here are the rules:

- Discussions must proceed freely and any bad faith attempts to shut them down will be punished.

- Serious discussions should be based on logic and evidence, rather than on hunches or personal emotional investment. That's not to say you can't question what's being said. However, keep in mind that not everyone interprets the series in the same way. When presented with supporting evidence for a theory you disagree with, do not dismiss it right away.

- Discussions are meant to be fun and there's nothing wrong with trying to be humorous or light-hearted. That said, you shouldn't use "it's just a joke" as an excuse for ad hominem insults or inappropriate tangents. Humorous threads belong either in Off-Topic or Chit-Chat and General, depending on how Eva-related they are.

- Please use the Chit-Chat and General subforum to share your feelings about specific elements of the series, particularly those bits that caused a strong emotional reaction in you (such as anger, disappointment, sadness, etc.)

- Try not to derail ongoing arguments. If necessary, you should create a new thread or look for an older one that covers the topic you wish to discuss.

- If you keep posting things like "Evangelion is much worse than before" or "Shin is objectively a cinematic disaster", we will treat you as a troll. There's nothing wrong with criticizing NTE. However, you must do this in the right places. Not every thread is about the supposed quality of Evangelion; and even with those that are, evidence is paramount. Simply repeating the same points over and over does nothing to further the debate and will just make you look obnoxious and inconsiderate to whoever you are arguing with. Understand that not everything is objective and listen to the other side of the discussion.

- Discussions related to the franchise's lore should not be interrupted on the basis of "Evangelion is all about the characters." No one here is denying the importance of mundane and character-driven moments on the series. Allow others to discuss aspects of the franchise that they care about, even if you might not.

- Discussions about NGE and NTE should focus on the finished product. It's well known that both continuities had complicated production processes. Also, different staffers had distinct personalities and brought unique ideas to the table. Please, try not to rely on questionable information when formulating your arguments (regarding the franchise's development details and the supposed character of its staff, in specific). If you want to discuss these things, there's a whole sub-forum for that (Related Works & People).

- Users who take advantage of their general skills and knowledge to sabotage discussions will be punished. It's good to see that all kinds of people visit our site. We love the insight you all bring to the table, but don't use it to discourage others from adding their own take on things. It's not impossible for someone who has passing knowledge of a subject to spot things that a well-versed other might have missed.

- Attempts to harass or deceive the staff will result in punishment. We are not against any of you guys. Our goal is to help everyone out and encourage healthy discussions. Please treat us like human beings.

- Have fun, but let other folks have fun too.

I guess it's becouse of me. Well I'm sorry if I'm ruined some peoples conversations with my poor wording but my english knowledge is still not full fleshed out and I'm not sure how to put my thoughts in an understandble context.

So sorry anyone if I ruind a conversation. I guess I keep silent from now on.

I can assure you that these rules were not made in response to anything you did

Your point of view is horny, and biased. ~ glitz2hard
What about titty-ten? ~ Reichu

I can add to Blockio's reassurance on this matter. While there were users whose behavior was a factor in creating this set of rules (I won't be naming anyone in public), you were most certainly not one of them.

Don't worry if you feel that your English is not fully fleshed out! We have many users whose first language isn't English and have had trouble expressing themselves, but even so have had long and productive discussions on the forum. The rules are meant to deal with bad behavior, not imperfect knowledge of English, so please don't hesitate to take part in discussions.

Hey, my first language isn't English either! I think these rules are more about the intention of the poster rather than any perceived result (think of Hyuga defending Shinji as the trigger of Near Third Impact against Kitakami in 3.0+1.0 :D )
