Not to be a downer, but I doubt it matters to the low paid animators how much money the film makes. May be Evangelion, but it's still plagued by the same issues as the rest of the industry. Of course we don't really know what it's like working at Khara, but if I recall the job postings from around 4 years ago weren't exactly lucrative.

Isn’t Anno kind of known for taking care of his artists?

This'd fit better for another topic, but there was a now-deleted interview from 2019 with Sejoon Kim (one of the film's animation directors) and what he said about working with Khara is that it definitely is tough, but no tougher than anywhere else and pays better with more or less the same workload because he thinks Anno knows how it feels to work under poor management from Gainax, so who knows.

There's also the fact many recruitees from 10 years ago (3.0's production) are still staying and now on higher positions like Yusuke Matsui who went from being a CG Animator in 3.0 to CG Animation Director in 3.0+1.0 and Shuichi Iseki who was an in-betweener back in 3.0 to animation director in 3.0+1.0, so there's a sense of progression for the employees. Rebuild also doesn't have a production committee so Khara is in full control of licensing rights and by that, the revenue goes directly to them too. That's how they've been sustaining themselves for 15 years.

I wouldn't be surprised if he was, but given that it is the anime industry I also wouldn't be surprised if things weren't great. Even better than the standard probably isn't great.

Regardless, it is good that the film has hit the goal. I'm just always suspicious of the anime industry given it's track record.

Congratulations! A month ago I thought this would be impossible, but they certainly played the marketing game correctly and pulled it off.
I mean, predictability is the central attraction and the narrative hook that we've all come to expect from the Evangelion franchise. How come Anno can't realize this? Twice? - FreakyFilmFan4ever

Nicely done, Khara. An impressive feat!
I guess this means we should anticipate the announcement of the short global theatrical run that will happen before the Amazon Prime release any day now, right?

.....right?

(I know it won't happen but allow me my dreams!)

Also, since the film is at 10.19 billion this means it leap frogged over Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest, Toy Story 4 & Bayside Shakedown: The Movie to become the 35th highest grossing film of all time in Japan and the 11th highest domestically made film release! With 9 days left will it rise any higher?

A day too early to celebrate and they really could've just round it up a bit

Still, I was thinking of 9.90 to 9.95 this week and have it cross 10 billion on either Saturday on Sunday but the stage greeting really did the trick.

But that means they're crossing that today. Heck, it's 1pm in Japan at the moment, so that extra 0.01 billion has very likely been crossed. We just need to hear from them tomorrow morning.

Update: Kogyo Tsushin's all-time ranking chart rounds box office numbers to the nearest 10 million yen. 9.997 billion yen rounds up to the nearest 10 million yen as "10 billion yen," even though the film has not actually reached that milestone as of Sunday.

Ah, with the updated real numbers the movie drops from 35th highest of all time to 38th.

Hopefully it can get back to 35th before the end of the theatrical run.

There's a bit of a chatter in Khara regarding the box office number and what Anno says about 9.99 billion yen is that "It's a good number for Toei" because OF COURSE Hideaki Anno would say that, Toei Animation did produce Galaxy Express 999, that old nerd.

Wasn't me who edited it in but our boy broke into the List of Highest Grossing Films on Japan list on Wikipedia.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_highest-grossing_films_in_Japan

The Eigarankingnews twitter account is being a little more cautious in reporting numbers but they're saying the box office is now up to 100.10 billion. Which if true would make our little-film-that-could a tie for 35th place.

Hey, Vegeta! How much money has Shin Evangelion made so far?

Lol. It feels a tad anticlimactic after the initial estimates and associated celebration. I hope to see Khara put up a new movie poster or something else of the sort to mark this event!
