Very curious to see what this weekend's results will be. I noticed a clear drop in attendance the day after Khara announced the Double Feature & new posters. I'm wondering if the film could be over 9.6 or even 9.7 by Monday.

People are definitely putting their return viewings on hold until Saturday, would be cool but also not surprising if Saturday-Sunday will see some massive jump.

The stage greeting will have actors who didn't show up in the previous one like Maaya Sakamoto (Mari) and Miyuki Sawashiro (Sakura), both are really popular and I think Sakamoto doesn't really show up that often in events like this, so that's something to be considered for fans.

Maaya Sakamoto should be a real huge draw.
I hope this keeps the momentum to get them to 10 billion soon.

I kid but at this point I really wouldn't be surprised if the movie reaches 9.8 billion and can't make that final .2 and then Khara suddenly goes "Well look at what we have here. We were cleaning our production offices and just behind one of the shelves we happened to find a Lost Two Minute Scene. It must have fallen back there at some point. We really thought this scene had been lost forever. It's a really good scene too. It's got all your favorite things. Maybe might even have a little bit more of Asuka. You never know. We figured why not and have added it to the movie. We're gonna have A Special last (One More Final) Theatrical Run."

At this rate, I can totally see this happening, haha.

Though the most reasonable assumption is that the prequel manga and 3.0+1.11 is something they pulled to reignite interest in the film and reach Anno's stated goal of 10 billion yen, it is nonetheless a surprisingly early example of something "new" being added already. I remember oh so many people telling me there'd never be any new Eva staff whatsoever these past 3 months, even as new merch was coming out.

Saakamoto hasn't been involved, though. I know she's a A-grade idol seiyuu, but her involvement with Eva is limited, Mari was 6th most popular in that 2020 NHK poll, behind Misato, and just now has apparently overtaken her (though maybe for just a short while): thread/20881/Newtype-popularity-polls/

She hasn't given any new interview after the booklet except maybe the print version of the Newtype one (not currently on the site) - haven't checked it either, whereas you're getting a bunch from Ogata, Miyamura and Hayashibara in particular. She wasn't involved in the previous cast greeting either, though she did show up at the radio talk. It's interesting she's coming back now. I wonder if she'll stick to it.

I wouldn't use the Newtype magazine as a proof of current popularity.

The polls in this magazine are only for people who buy the magazine. It's also influenced by the tastes of the magazine audience.

For example: Shinji is always more popular than Kaworu in the Newtype magazine polls. This is likely influenced because the magazine seems to have a mostly male audience.

Also, in the times of Ha (2009), Mari was already in Third position in Newtype magazine, while Misato didn't appear:

The distribution of the new character posters has begun - Kaworu & Mari - and it gave the movie another boost at the box office.

https://twitter.com/eigarankingnews/status/1408784976733040640?s=20
(Tweet has an image that's new to me so it's probably a spoiler.)

The movie is now over 9.5 billion and only has to make 497 million more yen to reach Khara's desired 10 billion goal.
This Saturday did 127% of the business compared to last Saturday so the film is holding well.
It's also now the 43rd highest grossing film at the Japanese box office ever.
Don't know what film it has is passed but if Khara hits 10 billion it'll be among the top 37 highest grossing films of all time there.

10 billion is seeming like a certainty now and I wonder when they'll hit their goal.
Short of another "Surprise Extra Bonus!" I'm thinking they'll reach 10 billion sometime in early July.
Most likely between Friday July 2 & Thursday July 8.
Though if today is remarkably huge I might have to refigure those dates. Lol.

It's June 27th in Japan now and that's an important day for the Rebuild series so I also think it'll be a pretty big day at the box office.
I imagine lots of fans will revisit 3.0+1.0 today. I certainly would if I was there.
Evangelion 2.0 was released 12 years on June 27, 2009.
Evangelion 3.0+1.0 was originally going to be released on June 27, 2020 before Covid-19 forced it to be delayed.
The double feature of Evangelion 3.333 and Evangelion 3.0+1.0 is also happening and that should do some business.

Yeah, another week seems reasonable, but like you said, it's all dependent on this weekend's figures. Either way, it should be interesting!

Capping off the weekend with 9.56 Billion, surpassing Jurassic World as the 42nd highest grossing film in Japan, Sunday numbers tend to be lower but it should also be noted it surpassed all newly-released film over the weekend so that's quite encouraging.

I do think there would be a considerable surge should the film announced the end of its theater lifetime date, whether there's "Absolute One Last Run" campaign or not and whenever the hell that happens, people will definitely go back to see it the big screen one last time. It's possible for it to reach 9.7 billion just from this week alone, so we'll see how it performs on the weekdays, 10 billion feels so close yet so far now. :nyao:

Movie will cross 9.6 billion within the next 24 hours.

Currently at 9.593 billion.
Only 407 million to go to the 10 billon mark.
It's doing 110% of what it did last Monday & was the #3 film at the box office so it's holding remarkably well.
If it can continue to do more business this week than what it did last week then it should go into next weekend at just under 9.7 billion.

One of the first replies says the films run is ending at some locations on July 8 but I wonder. Most likely it's just that the theaters haven't set their schedule yet for the new releases coming out that weekend. Looks like Japan is getting Marvel's Black Widow the same day as the US so that will take up the big screens. Also curious to see how Godzilla Vs Kong does when it come out July 2nd.

It's going to be a struggle but I still think 10 billion will happen.

I'm curious though to see what the final end number will be. The film should surpass Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest (37th highest with 10.02 billion). Wonder if it could have the stamina to go any higher.

When the film "left" IMAX screens back in April (with an announcement beforehand) to make room for Detective Conan before then being revived, there was quite a boost in audience number in the final day, I can see that happening again, I bet many people will consider to come and see the film on the big screen one last time in their area. A safe forecast would it be ending with more or less 9.8 billion yen close by the end of next week.

As I said before, 10 billion feels so close yet so far. Really wondering if Khara have one more trump card to give it Absolutely Definitely Final One Last Weekend Box Office Boost. :nyao:

Maybe it won't be quite so clunky a title, but I'm sure they'll have new mini-posters and another stage meet-and-greet for their fans to give it that little extra push across the line.

They could do one last final Bonus run and have a variation of the poster with cast all together on the beach after the sun has gone down.

But you really wouldn't be able to see much in such a poster, unless it's illuminated by burning Tanabata decorations, for instance. (If it runs long enough, I'm sure we'll get some sort of Tanabata themed poster, the 7th of July is just 10 days away!)

9.6 billion yen as expected, the official Eva twitter account also revealed that the film will be leaving IMAX screens for the final time in a few days so it will be an uphill battle for 10 billion with how stacked the July list is.

Hmm, sounds like we could expect another meet-and-greet or a 3.0 + 1.11 / 3.03+1.01 release to help push it past the 10 billion figure.

^^^ Dammit, I read that in Kaji's dub voice lol

Meet-and-greet doesn't seem to give an extended boost compared to benefits since it's a one-off event, so it's either moar freebies for ticket buyers or them releasing a mythical 3.03+1.01 version, even like 3-5 minutes of new scenes can bring dozens of people back lol.

My gut feeling says they're done with this stuff and would rather exit gracefully than looking too desperate to make history, on the other hand they're currently at 9.6 billion and will possibly reach 9.7 at some point this weekend or early into the next, it's just SO DAMN CLOSE to that 10 billion goal. SOOOOOO...

I'm sure some of the fans in Japan want to see the film hit 10 billion even more than Khara does. If the film really is coming to the end in IMAX I can see some fans giving it a final boost.

Will be curious to see if the film makes it. It was the #3 film in the country yesterday so it's not like the film is at the end of its run.
