Re: Shin Evangelion beats franchise record for the first day at the box office
They could always release another booklet for the last week/last weekend of the release, or be hiding 3.01+1.01 (or some other number combination) up their sleeves. I'm not so cynical as to think they'll keep stretching this release out forever, but I'm also not so optimistic as to think this is the end and they'll let the series rest before gearing up for a home release.
Shin Evangelion brought me back, five long years later.

Re: Shin Evangelion beats franchise record for the first day at the box office
On sentimental standpoint, it'd be nice if this is truly the film's Last Run on theaters but if you're a film distributor and see your 3-months old film still makes more or less half the numbers of what the #1 film that just came out that weekend made (365 million yen for Gundam vs 265 million yen for Eva), you'd definitely want it to stay on as many screens as possible for the time being.
Seems like it won't slow down on weekdays, theaters are still packed.

In other fun news: While there has been zero official news on Eva's international release so far, GKids just announced today they have acquired the rights to Mamoru Hosoda's Belle which doesn't come out in Japan until next month. GKids plans to have the film, subbed and dubbed, in theaters sometime this winter to be acceptable for the Academy Awards. Strange world.... Hopefully Eva news is soon. Maybe if they hit 10 bill they'll make the announcement.

Hmm yeah that definitely makes me wonder why they haven't said anything in regards to an international release for Eva by now. I really do think they are holding on for Anime Expo, but I'm curious what form the release will take.
I mean, predictability is the central attraction and the narrative hook that we've all come to expect from the Evangelion franchise. How come Anno can't realize this? Twice? - FreakyFilmFan4ever

I really hope they can reach 10 billion. Anno seemed like he really wanted it.

Re: Shin Evangelion beats franchise record for the first day at the box office
"The First Ever 10 Billion Yen SF Anime Movie" is unquestionably very tempting especially when this is probably the only chance they could do that, it's good for Khara's publicity, among other things. Regardless of whether one thinks the new booklet and 3.0+1.01 version are mere cashgrab gimmicks, they played the game well.
FYI around 200.000 booklet are sold on Saturday and Sunday, which means there's still 800.000 copies left.

Re: Shin Evangelion beats franchise record for the first day at the box office
Early in the week and already up to about 9.1 billion. And it overtook "The Lord of the Rings" (which one, I dunno) to be the 55th highest grossing film at the Japanese box office ever. I can't find an English list of the Top 100 highest grossing ever list in Japan but Wikipedia has a list of all the films that have made over 10 billion - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_highest-grossing_films_in_Japan - and if Eva can do that it will comfortably be somewhere in the Top 50 highest grossing films of all time. (Image is okay, I checked cause I know I've seen - avoided the post release videos - and it's from one of the pre-release trailers)
And looks like 3.0+1.01 is doing so well that some theaters that had it scheduled for only a week in IMAX are now extending their run.
Translation: Cinema Sunshine Tsuchiura, Yamatokoriyama, and Kinuyama, which had been screened for a week only, will continue to screen Shineva (IMAX) after the 18th!

^ It's the The Fellowship of the Rings, it's simply titled 『ロード・オブ・ザ・リング』in Japan although the next two films retain their subtitles translated in Japanese.

Re: Shin Evangelion beats franchise record for the first day at the box office
Up to 9.15 billion. So about 50 million a day since the work week started. If it keeps this rate up the film might be at 9.25 by the start of the weekend. Also for fun's sake it's doing over 1,000% more than the same time last week.
(Pretty sure this image is in the trailers. I know I've seen it before)
Mari is very happy about the ticket sales.
Only 884 million to go for it to reach 10 billion. It's going to be tough but I think on Monday we'll know whether 10 billion is happening or not.
(And if the answer is Not then I'm predicting Evangelion 3.03+1.01 will be on the fast track. Lol[/i])

Up to 9.23 billion. Evangelion 3.0+1.0 is now apparently the biggest moneymaker that Toei has ever had a hand in distributing.

The number of seats are already decreased by around 30.000 but it's still performing as good as yesterday. This thing is scary lol
