Possibly the strangest one so far this thread -- Taiwanese Politician Campaigned as Evangelion’s Asuka.

I'd vote her.
Shinji: "Sooner or later I'll be betrayed... And they'll leave me. Still... I want to meet them again, because I believe my feelings at that time were real."
Ryuko: "I'm gonna knock ya on your asses!"
-Asuka: THINK IN GERMAN!!! -Shinji: Öh... Baumkuchen...
Hayashida: "As game developers, our work is special. All of us here can put smiles on very many people's faces with our work."

She's the candidate for the party opposing China (Hong Kong is not the only place getting fucked by them alongside Tibet and the Uighurs). So I guess her dressing up in popular shows not only catches the attention of young people, but also makes a statement against cultural censor laws China would impose on Taiwan if their influence arose again.

Great work, I'd vote for her as well.

Just saw this on my timeline. I think it's from an official parody/4Koma manga, too?

I've only just found an interesting reference in this game, even though I've been occasionally playing it for a couple of years by now.

I'm a couple years late on this one, but going to contribute some low-hanging fruit either way.
Yin, a minor protagonist in the first season who gets a bigger role in the OVA's and second season, ticks just about all the Ayanami-clone checkboxes.

- Pale skin, blue(ish) hair, red(ish) eyes? Check!
- Emotionless girl who learns to feel as the core aspect of her character development? Check!
- Generally kind of sad-looking? Check!
- Not A Doll™? Check!
- Daddy issues? Check! Sorta, it's complicated.
- Learning to smile as a major developmental milestone? Check! This somewhat famous piece of Rei fan-art is, in fact, actually based on Yin's smile, so what goes around comes around, I guess.
- Merges with an eldritch abomination and becomes the herald of the apocalypse while standing around naked? ...That's oddly specific, and it's definitely kind of weird that this is at least the third time this has happened now (re: Nia from Gurren Lagann), but... yeah, check!
I think that's definitely more similarities here than your average garden-variety Rei-clone.

The Season 1 finale definitely feels like it took significant inspiration from both EoE and EoTV, with a chunk of it taking place in a mindscape where Hei faces the other (dead) characters in the show who confront him on why he chooses to pilot the Eva be a Contractor in a very Instrumentality-esque way that ends with him making the decision to return to reality instead of staying in the dream world, in a scene that I find very difficult to believe isn't inspired by the "Congratulations!" from Ep 26.

In season 2 episode 3 of Community, Pierce is asked whether humans can become a liquid after death and he states "Why yes, in fact when Buddha returns we will all merge into an ocean of knowledge that will according to our religion, taste quite a bit like Hawaiian Punch".

Surely the entire first fight sequence from Godzilla vs. Kong is a direct reference to the 8th Angel fight, right? Of course it’s not exactly the same, but I feel like there’s too much for it to just be a coincidence.

Later on, the evil CEO character tells the Mechagodzilla pilot to just “get in the chair” when he complains that the technology isn’t ready yet, which I give a 60/40 chance on being an intentional reference.

More like a reverse reference, just how much is Eva on your mind when you're watching a video and an image pops up and you go straight to
"It's Misato mark 1" who knows maybe there were some ABBA fans on the Eva production crew?? lol ok prolly not but still.......

Image
who doesn't want to kick back with Misato and have a few beers?

I mean, predictability is the central attraction and the narrative hook that we've all come to expect from the Evangelion franchise. How come Anno can't realize this? Twice? - FreakyFilmFan4ever

Sakugan, first episode -- this horned purple (with a few green highlights) kaiju is performing a very familiar sprint down a long avenue between towers.

Image

Every time you think this show will now go and riff off Gurren Lagann, it does Eva again -- second episode, we learn that the kaiju are attached to cables, and they stop working a while after the cables are severed.
