Higurashi Gou becoming a mindless torture porn, with mains characters pushed aside, and reduced only to their mimics, any deepness that's did made them three dimensionals personnes like humans pushed aside for gore and shock value, only the lesbian witchs subplot of Satoko and Rika matter, Satoko character massacred in order for her to only be a yandere for Rika because obviously, all what is "romance" and sexe,

SPOILER: Show
Particulary when one of the said character is a yandere overly dominant over another character completely traumatised and dumbfounded, and the attitude of certains kind of fans worshipping this kind of behavior as if it was something almost beautiful and virtuous. That's if you don't approve of the yandere behavior then the bad, toxic personne, is you. Like wtf??
sell.

All of this for what, at the end of the day? Oh, because of some really vagues and stupid meta references in higurashi gou, placed as subtly as trying to hide a huge barbie doll in a king cake with the fucking legs, arms and legs and hair, obviously visible, instead of the usual, discret white bean that's you usually skillfully hide in, that's even noone of the most talented "finding bean in the king cake without ruining it" couldn't find.

Ryukishi writting except for maybe, Ciconia seem to really becoming shit -I will never forgive this awful, damned episode 15 of Gou.-

Obviously, I think Gou, was nothing more but a ad (A really bad one, at that's) for Umineko and Ciconia, and a grabcash for money. All message of the franchise ruined for...This.

Seriously, the fuck was all that's.
Ban me forever.

I was assuming Higurashi Go! was going to be a 26 episoder, like a classy 90’s animay. Silly me.
I won’t be pacing back and forth impatiently waiting for the conclusion to this one.

Picked up and quickly shot through Wonder Egg Priority in the past week. This one is an odd creature.
A poor synopsis might read something along the lines of: Depressed teens try to resurrect loved ones by becoming dream-warriors who slay suicide-demons.
Main positives include some nice animation, colourful character designs and a believable, endearing camaraderie between the 4 leads.
Be warned that the subject of suicide is a constant, not to mention other uncomfortable themes including self-harm and molestation.

The story is left incomplete at the end of the 12th episode, with plenty of questions left unanswered and threads left hanging. This would not be quite so insulting if the 8th episode wasn’t a recap. Apparently a special will be released in a few months, presumably to act as a proper conclusion.

While other titles continue, as well as finishing PUI PUI Molcar, I've also completed my rewatch of Noir, which held up as a competent enough thriller, boosted by the sound-track.

Looking for new material in the gap between seasons, I tried the new Mamoru Oshii comedy Vlad Love, which, alas, wore out its welcome very quickly. One episode was quite enough, thank you. Meeting the same fate were the GTO OVA (similarly wearing rather than amusing) and Cowboy Bebop (which as the OP indicated, felt like just another of those 1970s noir actioners I watched back in the day -- which maybe explains the popularity as being accessible for newcomers to Japanimation -- also with bouts of not funny humour).

As always, an unexplained recap episode means production issues behind the scenes. In this case, it seems the director was hospitalized (whether due to overwork or not is unclear), and things then fell badly behind schedule to the extent the studio was tweeting out for freelance animators to help get episodes out without any further slippage.

MILF Mansion: Saddest ending to a hentai I have ever seen, still trying to shake the disappointment. Make a long story short: Psycho maid sets up S&M sister of house master to be committed to mental institution and after the final sex scene between master and protagonist, psycho maid kills master while she's sleeping with a very painful; you can tell by the blood that pours out; shock with electric stick.

I've started watching Fire Force to see what it's all about. Five episodes in, it's just interesting enough to keep me coming back for more. Nun girl is cute, catgirl has nice abs and booba. There's some larger plot going on in the background but it's yet to reveal itself. I'm going to keep watching this, but its hold on my attention is tenuous.

Owch. One can only imagine the nightmares they were having behind the scenes of Wolf's Rain.

I couldn't even reach the halfway point of episode two before dropping this like thermite.

Before the audience has a chance to memorise any of the characters' names, or accept any kind of relationship dynamics between them, or become familiar with the status quo of the world they live in- we're immediately introduced to a new character who apparently has abilities and a personality which rocks the boat we haven't even left port with. The arrogance of the writers to think I'll just run along with this struck me as something particularly contemptible.

The prospect of having to look at that obnoxious grin worn by the main character wasn't exactly a selling point, either.

Somewhere between Gundam SEED and Regalia, one would surmise. There's a show with production snarl-ups most years. Some survive it and flourish like GaruPan, others descend into QUALITY and lose nearly all their momentum and following (e.g. Märchen Mädchen).

I quite liked Fire Force, both seasons. It's a more or less normal shounen action stuff elevated by good direction and visuals. That said, if one is allergic to most tropes typical in those sorts of anime, good old fire can throw all the nice effects animation and fanservice it wants, it won't change many minds.

Battle Athletes ReStart!
disgusting image  SPOILER: Show
Image

Some things never change.

Being a fan of the guilty-pleasure OVA and genuinely good TV series from the 90s, I’m interested in seeing how this one plays out. Surely nobody would revive a long dead franchise like this if they didn’t have an interesting story to tell… right?

The first half of the episode made some odd editing decisions regarding its time skips:
  • The episode opens by showing us the presumed present of the story with the MC Kanata running in the great competition.
  • We jump back in time to see Kanata’s motivating incident. This isn’t framed like a flash-back, so one supposes this is the real start of the story, and everything will be a big lead-in to the competition we just saw a minute ago. Fair enough.
  • Then we skip forward to Kanata’s qualifier for the university satellite. Alright, I guess this is the start of the story…
  • Before she finishes the race we jump yet again to another time, with her waking in the morning… is this the morning of the qualifier? Or is this the morning after? Where are we?
They could have easily inserted the first cut as a flash back at the end of the episode, and skipped the qualifier section entirely.

The first conflict of the show sadly doesn’t involve any kind of outlandish or imaginative gimmicks that would fit with the sci-fi sports theme; no fist fighting in a warped-gravity corridor, or racing on a minefield with comically oversized push rollers. All we get is a simple arm-wrestle against a scrawny, would-be-bully set in a classroom with generic wooden desks.
This scene could have taken place on any other show set in practically any time period…

Image

Oh well. There's nothing wrong with starting small...

Its nice to see that a certain level of absurdity has been maintained from the original instalments, like the Moon apparently still being inhabited by the Space Amish, only now they have Kangaroos too, because why not?

Super Atragon (1995/96)
Trailer - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fg3hxOqnIvg
- Good overall.
- Animated remake of the 1963 Toho Atragon which introduced Manda.
- Animation is great, particularly the military porn.
- Tiffany Grant (Asuka from evangelion) is a decent villain here.
- Father/son drama isn't handled as well here as 63.
- Design for the Ra is badass and cooler than it's Gotengo counterpart from 63 or later appearances in Godzilla Final Wars.
- The weaponry of the villain civilization is more unique and apocalyptic than those from 63.
- Damn good score.

I never gave Pokemon: The Johto Journeys a proper sit through when it was on Saturday mornings all those decades ago but I am finally making up for it by watching the first episode of it.

Is it just me or does the Nurse Joy of New Bark Town have a crush on Professor Elm? Feel free to spoil whether or not it is like that since her dialogue towards his mannerisms in being a professor reaches romantic admiration territory at least from what I can gather.

Update on Battle Athletes Victory ReSTART!:

Image

A Kangaroo wearing boxing gloves attempts to climb a mountain. It should be funny. Should be.

If the cheap animation and dull visuals weren’t enough, this world, its characters and its story are just odd.
Episode 3 shared a few of the characters’ motivations for competing to become the Cosmo Beauty:
  • Not-Kris and Not-Jessie are competing to try and end a civil war on the Moon. Noble, yes, but wasn’t the title of “Cosmo Beauty” just that- a title? A trophy and a big pat on the back. Does the Cosmo Beauty now hold some kind of political power in the galaxy that can end or presumably even start global conflicts? An explanation for this might have been helpful.
  • Shelley hopes to prove a point to the haters: just because she has prosthetic limbs doesn’t mean she can’t win. It isn’t ending war or feeding the starving… but it’s an understandable motivation. The whole thing gets a bit muddied however when one considers the fact that there is no paralympic equivalent to the competition, that she has a fully robotic arm and leg, and she’s competing against unenhanced, flesh and bone rivals. Is that really fair or inspiring? I would say no, but that’s a whole other topic of discussion…
Apparently it isn’t good enough to just focus on the trials and tribulations of the athletes and their rivals to carry the show like the 90s instalments did; now there’s depressing things like war and poverty thrown in, and conspiracies involving terrorist bombings with underworld bosses (working alongside a eugenics-happy doctor) who hate sports and order a girl to strip naked because they aren’t evil enough…

Oh dear, this is just bad.

========

Quickie thoughts:
  • How Not to Summon a Demon Lord, 2nd Season – Ep 2. Rem and Shera have absolutely nothing to do for the entire episode except participate in a very tacky fan service scene right at the end. Don’t think I’ll bother with any more of this.
  • Zombieland SAGA, 2nd Season – They’re still using conspicuous CGI during the stage performances. Shame.
  • Higehiro: After Being Rejected, I Shaved and Took in a High School Runaway – Only two episodes in, and the story is walking down a sensible path so far. This is very much one of those don’t read the comments kind of shows, unless you want to continuously read variations of: “Please don’t Usagi Drop” and “So far in the light novels…”
  • Don’t toy with me, Miss Nagatoro – It’s already been pointed out and memed how this is the third notable girl teases/bullies boy show of recent years; I’m interested in seeing how this stacks up against the forgettable Uzaki-chan Wants to Hang Out!, and tooth-decayingly sweet Teasing Master Takagi-san.
  • After finishing Laid-Back Camp’s 2nd season- which won me back after ep 6 (I suppose all I needed was the imminent fear of death by exposure to engage me once again), I’m rewatching Encouragement of Climb. I wonder if the Fuji arc will hit as hard as it did the first time.

Well considering the backdrop to our own larger-than-life sports festival, it's hard to say it's not topical this time around. -o-;

Chewing-scenery villains can also be fun in my book, I think the problem is how generic the portrayal is.

I only had a vague recollection of the three episodes of Love Hina Again when I popped in my DVD of Love Hina Christmas Special tonight but it didn't matter, it was all about the love story and without giving too much away, the ending did manage to make me shed a tear or two.

You would do well to steer clear of Keijo!
Which would be a shame actually, because that turned out to be a good sports animay despite its whacky premise.

If ReStart! was any other show it would have failed the 3 episode test and be long forgotten by now, but I feel strangely compelled to watch it slowly sputter to its unsatisfying end.
Episode 5 gave me a chuckle when the medic Paglia proclaims “Praying to God won’t save [Shelley].” to which the religious girl, Yana reacts with a disappointed expression as if to say “Whelp, I can’t argue with that.”
This show has seemingly no interest in pleasing fans of the originals, fans of animation, sports or good-storytelling. I guess we can add the theist crowd to that list, too.

I generally like Mondays, but now I have new episodes of Higehiro and To Your Eternity to look forward to.
The first episode of the latter made it clear that it wasn’t afraid of subjecting us to tragedy, but blimey, I was not expecting them to actually

Zombie Land Saga S2E5 - Lilly’s solo song & dance act looked good and appeared to make no use of CG animation (if it did, it was well implemented), and in-universe it’s the performance that has gone the most viral. Funny, that.

Not going to lie, that show's premise seems trashy as heck to me. Readying a synopsis didn't really change that impression; sounded like someone trying to justify said trashiness. "No no no, but wait, he's just a Father figure to he---" "Dude, that is a fetish entirely unto itself."

I think we can surmise that all the characters who gather around the table towards the end of the OP are those Fushi has or will absorbed. For me it wasn't if they were going to die, but in what moment.

Also, there's a tearful reunion between the two (now) women. In context, it makes sense what that's over.

Hikki singing a TV anime OP ... first time since Freedom I think. Wonder why she hasn't done it more.
