My condolences. Take your time, it's okay to be under the weather for a bit.

Re: FML general thread [8]
Thanks everyone. When I found out last Friday that he was dying. I got upset and I cried. Surprisingly enough it felt good to cry. When my uncle whom I share a birthday with died back in 2011 it happened suddenly so I didn't know how to react. When my uncle's first wife died in 2002 I was just a kid, I don't remember much other than getting a day off from school. When my grandpa died in 2016 I mourned in my own weird way and I watched some shows that I grew up with as a kid cause I watched a lot of TV with my grandpa even if it was boring stuff like sports.

Letting it all out tends to be healthier than keeping it in. It's good that you got to have that catharsis, at least.

Re: FML general thread [8]
My best friend and fellow band mate of the last 15 years has been diagnosed with bile duct/liver cancer and they say there are spots on the Pancreas.
Not a good outlook. Blood work was fine, didn't know something was wrong until his eyes turned yellow. His older sister died of cancer last year and
this just f'ing sux. Starts Chemo in two weeks. I'm on a hiking vacation starting this Sat morning.. I guess I'll do what I can when I get back, which is of
course very little. I don't think I could play without him.

Thanx all, Oncologist is really being brutal with him right now and he is scared as you can imagine. I'm hoping biopsy proves differently as the cat scan has a 30% error margin. My wife is a survivor, hope he can make it too. Hits hard when you can only watch.

He’s not being mean right? I can understand being blunt but I hope he’s not getting lectured cause that would just be making it worse.
Please just call me Ian, "TheFrisky" is more of a title.

I guess I understand not wanting to give false hope, but this more like..."you have almost no chance of surviving more than a year"
Chemo starts soon so I guess we shall see. He wants to do one more gig before the first chemo and then see how bad it affects him.

Re: FML general thread [8]
Am still coping.
But it does not help for me psychologically that my sister -- a genuine Karen -- decided to vote for a shitty presidential candidate next year, who might as well destroy everything that was fought for, because she thinks it's the safest option. And at the dining table, of all places, when I would rather want a quiet lunch.
Fuck, I'd rather eat elsewhere.

Re: FML general thread [8]
Well my BFF had his last chemo and was scanned and he had a 15-20% reduction with no further spreading so it's a step in the right direction, I'm going to call it a win. He has 3 weeks off and then will do 4 more chemo sessions bi-weekly and scan again. Hoping for the best. I know he doesn't even want to get out of the car in the parking lot for chemo at this point...really nasty stuff.

Re: FML general thread [8]
So I'm enrolled in an art honours programme and we have this event going on that I was (and still am) excited for. The only problem is, the day after it was announced, I dislocated my dominant hand. Recovery time is 3-6 weeks I was so excited to submit something for the event, and now I have to sit and do nothing. I *could* paint if I really really wanted to but I'd rather save my canvas for something I can concentrate properly on.

Re: FML general thread [8]
How many people in IT does it take to screw in a light bulb (read: resolve a behavioral problem that results in repeatedly missing deadlines)?
Current answer:
- 1 to come up with a solution that does not address that problem at all.
- 1 to hire someone who will help sort out the situation.
- 1 who is hired to sort out the situation but is mostly interested in talking about how good he is at solving problems while not actually solving anything and repeatedly not listening well to people.
- 2 to claim it's not their behaviour and they don't want to be responsible for it
- 1 to jump to a conclusion not supported by the facts and then claim that is the only option.
- 1 to constantly and arrogantly claim the methods he learned at university are the only way to solve the problem, while at the same time not bothering with common sense.
- 2 to "plan" a meeting while making really basic planning errors that especially should not be expected from someone claiming to be a problem solver (no agenda, no idea what to say, thinking people not informed about what's to happen can magically guess that, planning the meeting right on the day of the deadline at the end of the day ).
- 5 to hold that meeting.
- 2 to claim everyone else should have prepared the meeting based on a single orally communicated vague phrase, while at the same time clearly showing they did not prepare it themselves (one even claiming that was not necessary )
- 2 to be unable to answer the simple question "In this very complicated schema, of which we can safely ignore about 1/3rd already, are there any other parts that can be ignored, yes or no?" for 40 bloody minutes, basically wasting everyone's time.
- 2 to then demonstrate they did not actually bother to look at the current situation in the software, meaning the status quo was unknown and the whole meeting was useless.
At this point I got really pissed off and basically told them to get their shit together.
Jesus.
Possibly lingering stress from the situation...
