It does, there’s a scene where she’s talking to it at Kensuke’s house. It got boxed up at the end of 2.0 so it makes sense she still has it. Probably left it at Kensuke’s place.

That's nice! Thank you!

By the way, there are more drafts of Asuka to take a look at!

Pretty cool to show Asuka's sandals are made out of a tire tread with a bolt in them. I wonder if she made them herself, or if Ken-ken whipped up some post-apocalypse sandals for her. The text in the second image just says, "Colored stitching on the shirt OK to leave as-is? Can drop if we don't want it."

What's interesting is that we've seen that Village-3 has spare clothes for children (I've read that there's even a school that Rei Q attends, is that true?), so they should have one spare of sandals (and other clothes) for her had she asked. It seems that Asuka pushed her self-imposed isolation to hardcore survivalist levels.

You meant the Mark.07, or the jumping Nemesis Series that looked straight out of a Super Mario game? (also it's me or are the Nemesis Series much goofier in Shin compared to Q?)

@ ElMariachi I personally would have preferred if Anno maybe used the idea of Yamashita of the Angels's Carrier that was present in ANIMA.

They do indeed have spare clothes, and there is a school (taught by Kensuke) that Rei Q does attend for a brief scene!

As to the second part of your question, the Mk.07 doesn't show up in this film. The mass-produced Mk.07 is pretty creepy. Asuka does fight these in Unit 02 (NOT Unit 02 Dash!), and she also fights these weird Mk.04 Evas that are like two arms fused at the elbow that hop around armed with prog knives. They're a little silly, but I bought into their presence well enough.

By mass-produced Unit 7, you mean the Evas in white with the creepy skulls for a head and neo-NERV logo painted on their forehead, right? Aren't they called Mark.07 in the theatrical booklet?
Also, what do you mean that Asuka fight them in Unit 02 but not 02 Dash? Does her Eva regenerate all its limbs at some point?

Sorry, I had a massive brainfart and forgot the name of the unit Rei Q pilots in Q. Post edited to reflect this.

When I say she fights them in Unit 02 but not Unit 02 Dash, I should clarify-- she fights them in what she calls Neo-Unit 02, lit. Shin-Nigouki. It gets retrofitted with all the parts from Paris.

Nice detail! As for who made the sandals, I believe that both scenarios are equally possible. We know that Asuka is familiar with craft work. I mean, she has been repairing her doll for the past ten years (even if she's not particularly good at it)! Likewise, I can see Kensuke being the one who crafted it. Honestly, this guy seems to work with everything that is thrown in his direction! He takes care of supplies, teaches, offers support to Shinji and Asuka, drives people around and so on. What doesn't he do?!

ElMariachi wrote:You meant the Mark.07, or the jumping Nemesis Series that looked straight out of a Super Mario game?

That would be the weirdest Mario game I've ever played hahaha! Well, maybe it would fit in Super Mario Galaxy or Super Mario Odyssey (the latter is known for its strange and unexpected enemies and locations).

I wonder about those too. That basic design actually goes back to Buddhist-era footwear (made of wood and with a much larger bolt head), but Asuka's sandals are probably going to be uncomfortable for extended wear without a strap going over the bridge of her feet.

Khara's official tweeter account is also a gold mine of information, they created a scale model of Village-3 to make it as coherent as possible, and there are additional details about it in the tweets:

Village-3 had a train car converted to a public bath, since boiling large quantities of water would require too much energy, making it not suitable for the energy situation of the village (they are limited to solar panel, I guess using a captured Nemesis Series as a power plant was out of the question for them for obvious reasons! ), this public bath is connected to an underground hot spring through a pump system:
https://twitter.com/khara_inc2/status/1 ... 4726501378
https://twitter.com/khara_inc2/status/1 ... 1021679622

They wanted to have the foundations of the ruins of the NERV building visible, but still realist, so they asked advice from a professional construction work company to make sure that as it was shown the building shouldn't immediately crumble:
https://twitter.com/khara_inc2/status/1 ... 2978695169

Other photos of the model of the NERV ruined building, and according to the timestamp, they were working on it since 2017:
https://twitter.com/khara_inc2/status/1 ... 9582668801

Another model of around Kensuke's house with the lookout tower, according to the tweet, the floating train that we see in the distance in the finished product is due to "gravitational anomalies":
https://twitter.com/khara_inc2/status/1 ... 8323043335

Photos of Anno in the middle of the fully completed Village-3 model. Apparently the scale was made such as that a human would be around the same height as an Evangelion, and that this model and scale served as references for the 01 vs 13 fight in Tokyo-3.
Also in the last image I see a cardboard cutout of an aircraft carrier in a drydock, is that ship present in the movie?
https://twitter.com/khara_inc2/status/1 ... 5495684101

Model of Kensuke's house, made in a converted train station platform, apparently the cliff side's shape behind the house was designed by Anno himself:
https://twitter.com/khara_inc2/status/1 ... 6358085632

The size of the completed model of Village-3 is around 9m X 4m, that's one bigass model! If you're curious, it's on display in Small Worlds Tokyo:
https://twitter.com/khara_inc2/status/1 ... 4125604866

Anno personally adjusted the place of every house layout, road width, utility poles and vehicles to make it as realist as possible. His back hurt like hell the day after, but he was very happy with the result:
https://twitter.com/khara_inc2/status/1 ... 6271494146

The bog model for Village-3 was custom-built for Khara, before making the order, Anno created a smaller model (1:450) for the model builders, using a model of battleship Yamato as a point of reference for the warship in the village's drydock (so there is indeed a warship in this village):
https://twitter.com/khara_inc2/status/1 ... 0004647940

The completed model of Village-3 is in a 1:45 scale, and used both to help the 2D and 3D artists to create it, but also to find the best camera angles:
https://twitter.com/khara_inc2/status/1 ... 6487322624

Anno bought and had quickly assembled a Gundamn gunpla to use it to make sure that the Village-3 model was at the correct scale, Anno is such a fucking nerd!

Might be 'cause she's pasted from a pic with a different art style (her proportions are all different, they have more realistic waists...) or maybe she looks out of place with the plugsuit, though that's prolly on purpose.

She's pretty short tho. XDD
I kinda like how even her grownup self in the epilogue still looks very short compared to grownup!Kaworu, because 1) as a short person I relate and b) I always had the HC that she would wind up shorter than Yui if/when she was all grown up, since height is something that rly depends on your environment even more than your genes and now it's actual canon!

That's very likely. She appears to have been drawn in the art style of the original series (which was also brought back to Jo and Ha). In other words, she is more "rounded" and "thinner". The villagers, on the other hand, are "blocky" and have "sharp corners". It's hard to explain, but both styles look great.
As for the plugsuit, I also agree. I've always found Ayanami to be the least human-like in the original cast (appearance wise). Again, it's hard to explain. I mean, she looks like a human. That said, there are elements of her body that make her look slightly different and and add to her mysterious nature. The plugsuit just reinforces that notion for me.

During early development stages for 3.0, Unit 2+8 was supposed to be a double entry unit and it got materialized once in the original preview from 2.0.

However, it was eventually scrapped as it would diminish the novelty factor of Eva-13 which had the same system.

Not gonna lie, this is a pretty cool design and I'm honestly bummed it ended up being scrapped completely instead of being used used for another unit, considering some of the old designs like Eva-07 got reused for the 4-series. :um:

EDIT:
More concept arts including the Beast Mode, dated 2013. Yamashita mentioned something about AT Field and pilot's soul but I'll leave that to more capable hands to translate it, but this idea was still actively being considered right until Animator Expo 2014.

Not only is it a pretty cool design, it is also a design we have seen before! If you look at the anchor-shaped visor, it is a near perfect match with that of the "mysterious Unit 08" we see in the Ha preview!
and that also confirms the long-standing suspicion that the two humps on the back were, in fact, two entry plug covers
