I knew from reading the ANN review that this was going to be a loose adaptation, but until you see it you don't realize how loose it is. It is not just a running time issue. The location and time switch are big (i.e. Germany to Japan and the future vs. ~17-18th century) and the characters who do make transition to live action were dramatically changed.

I would like to see the Hangeki no Noroshi miniseries as those cover Hanji and Sasha with some ridiculous training scenes from what I could see from a Vietnamese upload.

It is not as bad as I thought; for some reason I'd conflated the single mom and Sasha in my mind, which if true would be understandably upsetting. When my misapprehension was corrected I was left with merely "this is bad and I don't want to see more" vs. "this is a horror show and needs desperately to die in a fire."

I nearly went to the SF screening at Century, my experienced could have been ruined by stuck subs. Funny thing looking at it now is that's a line from Part 2.

It does help to keep in mind that Shikishima ≠ Levi (the differences are more emphasized in Part 2), so Levi in a sense stays out of it.

One thing that didn't make sense to me was the reduced scale. You get the sense that the Survey Corps is decently sized since it sustains heavy casualties. Yet in the live action it is much smaller. It's like the budget got sucked up by the CG so they couldn't hire more extras to be soldiers. And not everyone in the military uses ODM gear.

Few things I did like:

-Alternate Survey Corps insignia with the left wing being red vs. blue
-Shikishima intro scene
-Hanji antics in Part 2

I finally finished the show. It started out strong, but I eventually lost interest. My initial reaction when I finished was "man, this show is overrated," but I think my issue was with Erin's powers. And Annie's lack of understandable motivation. And the sequel hook. I guess I wanted another story about a normal, but determined person in a hopeless situation fighting against seemingly insurmountable odds, not a superhero story. And I wanted it to actually end instead of telling me to come back next year. I wonder if the movies are any better.

So I read chapter 77 and all I have to say is this.

SPOILER: Show
Reiner, Bertholdt, and Annie murdered our freckled friend, Marco and threw him to the wolves (the Titans) and Eren is SCREWED.

Did anyone here read the Before the Fall spin-off? It's okay for the most part. The only thing that interested me is that it's in the past and we get to see what life was like then, and we get a nice scene of calvary with swords and rifles take on a titan. That was cool. Other than that, the Titan's child plot thread is kinda stupid.

Snort. I honestly don't even care anymore yet I still read the series. Even so, the foreshadowing was a shit-ton of chapters ago. Years most likely. Also, wolves guy from walking dead was the titan. Ha ha. I got a chuckle when I saw people say that.

I usually take about three to five years to watch/read/listen to stuff that many people really like, so fittingly I watched the series for the first time over the last week. My feelings on the series can be summed up by what doggy said back in 2014;

View Original Postcaragnafog dog wrote:Frankly I don't see any reason to read or watch SnK if not for Levi. Definitely my favorite manlet at the moment.

I am a :slowpoke:

Anyways, I'm pretty good at avoiding spoilers(except knowing that Annie was a titan. Thnx a lot Trajan... Just kidding, it's my fault for waiting three damn years to watch the thing ;) ), and my (three) friends don't want annie mays, so I basically knew nothing about this series going into it. Thought the first episode was wonderfully done, and I actually really liked the concept and the setting, the design of the uniforms and emblems and the maneuver gear. Levi was the man(as was his whole #squad, Petra and all them), Mikasa was pretty cool(loved that red scarf) and though I didn't like Jean his really character piqued my interest, which I appreciated. I loved the action sequences of the humans taking down the titans and thought they were some of the funner things I've watched in an anime.

Unfortunately I really didn't care for Eren and I didn't like the Eren/Annie turning into a titan thing, which I realize is a major part of the series. I just couldn't get into it no matter how hard I tried or thought about it. I don't want to knock the series, and I'm happy that it makes a lot of people happy, but I just wanted the humans to be fighting the titans with their maneuver gear instead of relying on Eren to be their ace in the hole. But it is what it is, I guess. If I knew so much about what people wanted in an anime I guess I'd be making them myself.
I used to work in a factory and I was really happy because I could daydream all day -- I.C.
And thanks to EVA, I've started like myself and that has made me very happy. Mr. Anno, please keep working on EVA a lot more.

^Oh lord, my first anime...
Thought nothing could beat this show when I first watched it. I realize now how much it's definitely not the best thing ever, but I've still got a soft spot for it. And so, I gain excitement from this trailer even though I don't remember half the character's names.
Perhaps this is to me what Naruto/Bleach/maybe even DBZ is for older anime fans. But I've watched I think 11 anime series total so maybe I'm just quick to succumb to nostalgia I don't know.

I have watched it recently and I swear it's rekindled my love for anime. Haven't been so caught up in Japanese animation for quite a while. The first season of the anime didn't have the strongest start and there was some silliness compared to more realistic series I account among my favourites (such as NGE and GitS), but there was a step change around episode 10 and then again in episode 19.

I don't think I'll be able to stay away from the manga now.

Yea, I wouldn't put it anywhere near my favorites, but it's still a pretty cool series. I liked it much more than a lot of other very popular annimays, like Steins:Gate, FMA, and One Punch Man. And it's a really good introduction anime. A lot of people seem to like cosplaying it too, which I think is nice. And Levi is one of the all time great badasses.

The only real sour memory I have of watching it was that sometimes episodes would begin with too much footage from the prior episode, which is fine if ones watching it weekly, but is a bit of a pain for binge watchers. I also hate Armin and wish he'd get a decent haircut.

I've been meaning to read it as well. I'm hopefully gonna pick up the first few volumes in the next couple weeks.

I've been reading the lastest chapter of the manga, and it's completely different from where the series started.

Also note I've only read the latest maybe 4 chapters and nothing before. So I should go back and do that.

Either way wasn't this season suppose to be released already? What's taking so long for it to be aired?

I read up through around chapter 50 or so, at which point I said, "this is stupid" and dropped it like a bad habit. Hopefully the second season rehabilitates the manga in my mind, but we'll have to see how things play out.

Could somebody be as kind as to help me manage my expectation for the manga I'm quite certainly going to get on Kindle, without spoiling too much?

What should I expect, apart from Mikasaestucasa, Potatogirl and Christa not looking as lovely as their anime counterparts?

If you look back through the archives to when the first season was airing, you'll find a lot of complaints about how the girls had been drawn in the anime -- coloured lips being one of the main points of contention.

All I'm going to say is that the masterpiece manga 『進撃の腐人』 (Eotena Onslaught) canonically consists of chapters 1-123, including Levi & Ilse side-stories, together with the Eren parts of chapters 130 & 131.

Wow! Western fans are vocal about the new chapter and they are not happy. They're discontented with the way Eren's character went and the whole sub-Lelouche ending. I guess they were holding out hope for a EH baby route. There's even a petition that's garnered dozens of signatures to get an anime original ending. Obviously that won't happen but it shows how unhappy they are.

I have no stakes in AoT, but that made me laugh. Imagine being so assmad about a show that you sign a petition to change the ending....
