Locally or internationally? The former might be possible seeing how much of a cultural juggernaut Evangelion is in Japan, but the later? Not a chance.

So, uh... has anyone here not seen the what Demon Slayer did in the same timeframe?

4.6b yen in the first 3 days, 23b yen in 31 days.

The annual Detective Conan movie is a far more achievable target but even that I’m not sure.

Demon Slayer is next-level stuff in terms of box office legs, last Saturday it made roughly 160 million yen which is the same number as Shin Eva made on the same day, although Eva edged it out by a very small margin. DS was on its 170th day of release while Eva was on the 27th.

Absolutely insane. :mari_aghast2:

By the way, late night shows are returning to TOHO Cinemas on Tokyo Metropolitan area and other three prefectures from April 9.

Yeah. Looking at the box office numbers this last month really drove home how huge the Demon Slayer film is.
3.0+1.0 is a blockbuster & success for sure.
But the Demon Slayer movie is a once in a decade type SuperSmash Earth-Shattering Blockbuster!

I relied entirely on Google Translate but got the main gist. This is a pretty good analysis of 3.0+1.0's box office future in Japan. Expectations are the film will likely end up just under or around 9 billion BUT this article lays out some good paths for the film to reach 10 billion.

https://taroimovie.com/eva10billion/

It's completely business focused with zero spoilers about the film.

"Achieve 10 billion yen firmly and then die!", says Misato to Shinji. Damn, she spent some time with Levi from AoT

(Tweet contains screencap from the new trailer)
35 days and 7.42 billion yen, 10 billion is becoming less likely as the film will start losing screens this weekend (mainly the premium ones; IMAX and 4DX) to accomodate the new Detective Conan movie, but it has a shot of surpassing Shin Godzilla by the end of its theatrical lifetime (8.25 billion yen).

But even if the film dropped dead this Monday, it still made a ton of money for the typical pandemic standard so it's all good, along with the fact it topped the BO from a month straight.

There were still a fair number of people in the theater when I went to go see it yesterday, so it's fair to say momentum isn't dead yet. I wonder how many people were seeing the film for the first time vs how many of them were return viewers like I was.

I'd like to assume the stage greeting event with Anno, Tsurumaki, and Maeda was the big Sunday draw, but happy to hear that anyway! It's "only" on its 35th day after all, CMIIW 3.0's theater lifetime was around 90ish days with 5.26 billion yen, so 10 billion yen for this one isn't completely off the cards yet.

Short of a disaster surpassing Shin Godzilla to be Anno's biggest financial earner (domestically) seems very likely now. Only 0.8 billion to go. That's awesome!

10 billion seems possible if the film really has steady return business through the next couple months despite the arrival of competition. It'll be a marathon to get there. Slow but steady.
I do think most likely the end will be somewhere within the 9 billion range. Either just under or just over.

Does anyone know where there's a listing of Japan's Top 100 Box Office Earners of all time? I can't seem to find one. I couldn't find one on BoxOfficeMojo and even Wikipedia only lists those that have grossed over 10 billion (37 films). That one account keeping track said the film surpassed Indiana Jones & the Last Crusade to take the 83rd highest spot this weekend. I'm curious to see what else is up there.

How many times have you seen the film so far? Have your thoughts on it changed in any substantial way?

I've seen it twice and I might have to go back for a third viewing, because seeing that film in theaters is a very decadent experience during the action sequences thanks to the excellent sound design. My thoughts haven't changed substantially, no. I liked the film when I saw it the first time, and I caught some extra details the second time that made me like it even more.

This week the movie dropped harder than the previous weeks.

32,6626 tickets, 527,630,500 yen

I made a chart 'cause I like them charts lol

Image

I guess Sunday's event and khara reminding that IMAX/4D showings will sensibly decrease this week helped increase the average ticket price. Nerds will probably want to see Shin at its best one last time before it is gone.

God, yeah, I can imagine. If there's one aspect of Rebuild that deserves all the praise in the world it would have to be the sound design.

The sound design in 3.0 is particularly next-level stuff and I can only imagine how good Shin sounds on a bonafide theater, as they get to mix that thing on Toho's prestige post-production centre, along with the fact it was made for IMAX first and foremost (unlike 3.333 which was converted). No wonder khara really pushed the premium formats hard.
