I'm not worried about the rating tbh, EVA has crossed into bein a classic and probably gets the "its not porn its art" treatment at this point.

So maybe no anatomically correct giant vaginas but once you've done them already there'd be no point in repeating it

I think the red room is the place where the Evangelion 13 was shown "crucified" in some trailers, I don't know if Gendo needs Shinji at this point to continue his plans, but maybe he could try to convince him telling that everything he did so far it was for Yui's sake, by giving him a speech similar to that of the manga. Also Shinji could even be about to witness the moment in which his father gets a gunshot to the visor.

It can be a "random gradient", but in that same place, you can see something like bubbles moving, or pieces of something flying.

Why the 2D characters of this movie look SO nicely done? They're so beautiful, all of them, I've never seen a 2D animation so beautiful.

Well this is the first Evangelion project that I think really has the budget and resources to take it's time.

The original NGE was a moving train that once the first episode aired they had to meet a deadline and have a new episode ready to go every week.
The End of Evangelion at most was in production for what a full year?

I'm sure someone has the dates production actually started but considering how quickly they came out after one another - and Khara was not the assembly line factory studio like the studios that make a Pokemon movie ever year - I can't image 1.0, 2.0 and even 3.0 had the usual lengthy production schedules most animated movies are allotted.

Thrice Upon A Time has been in some stage of actual production - hiring staffers to create images - since early 2017. Even before the original delay it's clear Khara is in a place now where they can afford to take their time. The more time allowed the nicer things look.

It's gonna be a pretty movie.

I wonder "who's responsible" for the animation, is Takeshi Honda involved again? I don't know much about this part of creating movies, but I'm curious.

This time (despite clearly basing themselves on Takeshi Honda's style to keep it similar to 3.0) it is Atsushi Nishigori doing animation direction. That's the guy who directed Darling in the Franxx and designed the characters for Gurren Lagann.

If this is true, there is no need to worry. 3.0 has some traumatizing shit in it.

Also, when I say "no need to worry" I mean that nobody should worry Anno is being limited, I don't think that's the case. But I think Eva could work without violence too, depending on what Anno wants to do.


As for the TV spot.
The way that cool shot of Eva-02 at the end contrasts with the more somber, melancholic part of the One Last Kiss song...this is as good as it gets. These people are geniuses at editing. They can't ever fail.
(Is it Anno editing all the trailers? I have a feeling that's the case.)

Yeah, Atsushi Nishigori is the general animation director. All staff are listed on Evangelion offcial website.

Did Trigger absorve most of the EVA staff from Gainax? There's so many Trigger people working with Khara in this movie. Do we have people which worked on Kill la Kill too?

Khara staff in great part came from Gainax too, so a lot of these people have worked together often.
To mention some, Atsushi Nishigori did key animation for Kill la Kill, Kazuya Tsurumaki himself did the storyboards for the final scene of KlK 24 and Shigeto Koyama did design work for the show.

We are getting top talent here.

Btw as for the CGI, I have no problems with it at all. I think some people still have a problem with CGI being easily distinguished from 2D animation in some cases. But that isn't the same as looking bad. Outside of the last trailer's Eva-01 vs Eva-13 shot, where the movement look a little bit awkward (let's wait to actually see that in context) I think the CG looks awesome. The last shot in this TV spot is actually perfect.

GAINAX during its prime (late 80s-early 90s) was the perfect studio for new talents to shine. Said talents would later leave the studio and either to join other studios or become freelancers, then eventually recruited or came to Khara when it was established. Many key staffs of Rebuild are from the old GAINAX circle who are working somewhere else now, that's why the staff list looks surprisingly diverse. You can check their profiles one by one and I guarantee most of them either have NGE, Gunbuster, Nadia, or Royal Space Force in the credits.

Nishigori is infamous for directing DitF which I admit is not good in terms of story, but his past works are impressive and he's got great talents for character animations in particular so Shin Eva is in good hands since he's the general animation director this time.
