Just been on Twitter apparently the Evangelion Store marks 17 days to go before the movie is released. I don't see this as a total confirmation that the movie is not being delayed but it gives me hope (for now).

And the countdown will continue until there is any announcement by Khara.

The state of emergency by Japan is reportedly going to ask venues to keep at half capacity. So the movie would be able to release under those circumstances. The question however is, would Toho/Toei want to release it with those limitations?
I mean, predictability is the central attraction and the narrative hook that we've all come to expect from the Evangelion franchise. How come Anno can't realize this? Twice? - FreakyFilmFan4ever

@ hui43210 the problem is if they do not release the movie in this month in the next months even with the vaccine the situation could still be even worse. They'll have to settle for cinemas with shorter hours and fewer customers rather than nothing if that's the case.

A little shocked nobody mentioned it in-thread, but just last night (western time) on Twitter, the official sites posted about Shin Eva's theatrical merchandise available starting Friday—including their 80 page "spoilers!" sealed movie pamphlet with interviews, etc. For reference, 2.0's was sealed and marked as spoilers, too. Those popcorn buckets look cool!

To me, that's a sign that the movie will chug along as intended, despite Tokyo's state of emergency, just at half capacity.

For another example: Part 1 of Sailormoon Crystal's movie (set in the Dream arc, titled Eternal) is out in theaters this Friday with no indications otherwise. And that release was pushed back to this week due to COVID, originally Eternal Part 1 was meant to screen back in September. The only difference with this week's screening which they announced last night? Their Saturday live talk event (with Mitsuishi and co) they planned to do at a theater(?), is instead going to be a on a talk show, due to the state of emergency concerns.

@ Sailor Star Dust the sale of merchandise and the movie pamphlet may seem good, but the fact is that we do not know how much the number of contagions will rise in the coming days and how the Japanese government could react to try to avoid ammas of people in a single place. It is normal for Khara to continue to advertise the movie until the government could decides to close the cinemas. For the moment we cannot rely on the merchandise for sale dedicated to the movie, we can only wait until the day of release.

Well, given that no other Eva fan community online is worried about this, I think the fears of some people on this site are unfounded. The risk of catching COVID from a movie theater is almost entirely eliminated with the use of social distancing, and I think Toho realizes that showing the movie at half capacity is better than not showing it at all. I'm convinced the movie will show as intended.

@ BusterMachine4 I think outside of this forum and of Japan many people don't know in what condition Japan is currently . If it weren't for those news that have reach this thread we too like the rest of the world would be blissfully unaware of the risk of a possible delay and we will be at 100% convinced that before Febraury the Rebuildìs saga is to be considered a closed chapter and past history. I am really shocked that although the Internet and social media are the first to make noise in this moment they are now silent.

It's the movie pamphlet that contains spoiler material like the 3.0 pamphlet did back in 2012.
Please just call me Ian, "TheFrisky" is more of a title.

So we should expect something like the Q interviews to surface soon after. Yay!

I don't think that anyone here is actually fearing the worst. We are all expecting the movie to be released on the 23rd. In fact, I'm getting more and more sure about it by the minute.
What we are speculating is how a possible delay could play out. Because, in the end, there is still a real possibility of that happening (even though it is a small one by this point).

Hmm. Depending on your timezone and if folks on 2ch, Twitter, etc, etc discuss and/or scan it, maybe so??

@Kendrix: The tweet doesn't mention Anno (weirdly enough) but I'd imagine it'll have to have all the Seiyuu/Staff interviews just like that one did. (I swore 2.0's book had interviews too...) Exciting :w00t:

(I'm....kinda uncertain at this point if I'll personally embrace the spoiler flood madness or keep away, I just have to wait and see.)

The pamphlet is coming on January 23rd, not on January 8th like the rest of the merch.

So it's just regular merch, no spoilers up until the 23rd? I did think that would be weird. Phew.

Sounds a lot more sensible that way, yeah.

Anyway, we'll be sure to implement the spoiler policy ASAP in the event of real spoilers popping up.

@ ArtyumR On the delay I would not be so sure the Evangelion Store is still counting down, and now I have read a news about this state of emergency I think I understand that the state of emergency will target bars and restaurants more than anything else
